Rush Success Story; Amy Rush Camberley Franchisee

Tell us about your career at Rush Hair & Beauty?
My Rush career started (way back) in 2005, when I was an Assistant at the then-new salon, Rush Brighton. In 2007, I relocated back to Surrey and started working at the Woking salon, where I was promoted to a Rush stylist. During this time, I completed 2-weeks of intensive training to develop and further my skills and to this day, I remain incredibly grateful to the incredible educators.
Whilst working at Rush Woking, I managed to further my career and over the 4 years I was there, I went from a Stylist to a Company Consultant. It was at this time, in 2011, that I decided to open my own Rush franchise salon in Camberley, in partnership with the previous franchisees of Rush Woking.
Rush Camberley celebrated its 11 years this summer and I couldn't be more proud of my team and the success this salon has had, especially over the past few years.
What’s the working culture at Rush like?
A healthy workplace culture is a priority for me at Rush Camberley. I recognise the efforts of my incredible team and I am grateful to each and every one of them. We are one team, we support, encourage, and care for one another.
We communicate, and this is vital to our growth as a team. We adore our clients, they become part of our family too. And most importantly we have fun!
Why did you want to work for Rush when you first applied here?
Rush was the only place I wanted to work, the salons were modern, they were popping up everywhere, and they had huge education and development opportunities.

Tell us about your career at Rush Hair & Beauty?
I’ve been working at Rush for the last 6 years, starting my career as a Stylist in May 2016. I was quickly promoted to a Style Director, due to being an Afro specialist and having a large regular base of clients who required texture services. I feel very lucky that during this time, I was working very closely with Avlon and they were recommending me and my skillset, so this also helped send clients my way.
One of my personal highlights is that I created a hair Instagram profile to help promote the specialist work I was doing on Afro hair, and this helped me hugely. I generated a lot of organic clients who saw my work and wanted to have an appointment with me at Rush Stratford leading to a further promotion to become Senior Director. During this time, I began to work closer with Avlon, the leading and preferred brand for Afro Textured hair. I was lucky enough to work on some featured makeovers, which were then posted in high-profile hair magazines.
In 2018, Rush entered me into the Afro Category for The Hair Magazine awards and I’m excited to share, I won. This enabled me to run a column within Hair Magazine for a whole year, where I gave top tips on trends, best hairstyles and products to be used on Afro hair.
In 2021, I was promoted to a Consultant at Rush Stratford, with 80% of my client base being Afro and visiting me because of my skillset within the industry. Most recently, I was asked to join the education team at Rush, to create a course centred around Afro styling. I have loved teaching and developing the skillset of our Rush stylists and can't wait for what’s to come…
What part of your work do you enjoy the most?
My favourite thing about my job is giving my clients amazing service, in a well-established salon and watching them leave with a smile on their faces, knowing how happy they are with their new hair.
What surprised you about working at Rush?
The thing that surprised me the most about working at Rush, was how fashion-forward they are with cutting and colouring. I also love, how committed they are, if they see your passion and drive in something. In the last 2 years, I’ve seen how determined they have been to ensure Afro is part of their daily offering and at a high standard.

Tell us about your career at Rush Hair & Beauty?
I joined Rush back in 2018 and was based at Rush Tottenham Court Road as an Apprentice. Whilst working at the Tottenham Court Road salon, I was also training at the LHAA Academy in Croydon, furthering my skills to become a qualified stylist. One of my fondest memories during this time, was when I won Rush Apprentice of the Year at the Rush Oscars.
At the beginning of the pandemic, I moved to Rush Stratford where I completed my Level 3 and gained a nomination for the BAME Apprenticeship Awards. I’ve recently just passed all my training and will be opening a column for clients on the shop floor.
Alongside gaining my qualifications whilst working at Rush, I’ve had the opportunity to assist the Artistic Team at Rush Inspire evenings, as well as assisting backstage at L’Oreal Colour Trophy 2021. My journey so far has been amazing, Rush has really helped me grow as a person and my confidence and knowledge are constantly expanding.
What part of your work do you enjoy the most?
I have enjoyed assisting the Rush Stylists, learning and putting all my new skills to practice. I work with an amazing team who are all unique, creative, and passionate about hair. They have helped to create a supportive environment, to allow me to grow and I’m forever thankful to them.
What surprised you about working at Rush?
I am most surprised by the number of stylists that have supported me and allowed me to develop my skills, opening up so many opportunities I never would have had, had I not been at Rush.

Rush Success Story; Kirsty Rush Manager & Workshop Team Member

Tell us about your career at Rush Hair & Beauty?
I started working at Rush, aged 18 as a junior stylist within the Sevenoaks salon. I quickly got promoted due to having a very loyal clientele and managed to work my way, through the stylist levels to become a consultant by the age of 21.
Whilst being a Consultant, I had visited L’Oreal’s Academy several times to do colour courses and it was here, I aspired to get my Colour Expert Degree, which Rush helped fund and provide support with. After gaining my degree, I was then promoted to a Company Consultant, the highest level stylist you can be at Rush, which is one of my biggest achievements to date. But I wasn't ready to stop there…
At 23 years of age, an opportunity to become the salon manager at Sevenoaks came up. It wasn't something I ever saw myself doing, due to wanting to progress creatively but Rush really supported me and I took the leap. Around the same time as becoming the manager of Sevenoaks, I also made it to become part of the Rush Colour Team. This is a team of colourists within the business, who get to help the Artistic Team do shows and shoots and explore the more creative side of hairdressing. This was always my dream at Rush from going to see my first Rush Live at 18 years old, so I am incredibly proud.
Whilst being in the Rush Colour Team, I then progressed to become part of the L’Oreal ID Artist Team which helped me expand my knowledge even more. I have travelled to Barcelona and Paris with the team to learn, teach and develop my skills as a creative colourist. Rush has fully supported me throughout my career as a Hairdresser and given me the most amazing opportunities I wouldn't have had without them. I’ve never felt so supported by a brand to follow my dreams.
What part of your work do you enjoy the most?
My favourite part of my job is helping people achieve their goals, whether that's my clients with their hair or, my team with their targets.
Why did you want to work for Rush when you first applied here?
I applied for Rush because of the amazing training that is available from some of the best-known hairdressers in the industry and at an award-winning Academy.
