Toxic, disappointing and cliquey
Call Centre Agent (Former Employee) - Folkestone, Kent - 23 May 2021
I would start by saying the high turnover of staff should be the first warning sign, ask yourself why they are constantly hiring and have such a high turnover... A truly tragic company to work for. No room for progression and such a cliquey environment, grown adults acting like children (including management). You have unrealistic targets and management that belittle you 24/7, you are constantly under a magnifying glass. Management openly talk about sensitive information they have been given by employees on the floor without any regards or respect, and though you can report incidents unless you have proof they are not interested. They do not care about your well-being be it mental or physical health- constantly disregarded. Pay is vile compared to their competitors and the sickness monitoring scheme is laughable. Avoid this place at all costs!
Pros
Payday
Cons
Management, structure, shifts the list goes on

Please do not contemplate working here.
Agent (Former Employee) - Folkestone - 19 August 2020
As an on the phone agent saga do not care about you what so ever, talk to them about mental health and they do not care. Working from home is challenging but understandable times however call centre agents have not even been given a thank you for all their support through lockdown. Instead they've made shifts worse, they've put our targets up and constant emails pressing us for more & more. They will take your commission away from you so easily, seems as if they will do everything in their power to take it away from you so they do not have to pay it. Although they're saving 11.2m a year by not having us in the office yet we don't even get a look in because were just the bread winners. Absolutely disgusted with this company, once so reputable but do not care for their staff what so ever. Managers are not even capable of lacing their boots to the role and as the higher ups go their just as bad.
Pros
When the shift ends.
Cons
Everything. Just everything

Avoid at all costs!!!
Sales Agent (Current Employee) - Folkestone, Kent - 22 April 2020
I started at saga about a year and a half ago and have already had 3 different managers. Constant pressure put on you to hit targets, no chance of moving up anywhere unless you’re a bumlicker or sleeping with someone from management. Stress beyond belief, even stressed when you are not working! Taken to a disciplinary for having too much time off! I had 10 days off in 1 year, 2 weeks at a time for tonsillitis and I was threatened with a disciplinary meeting! It’s a joke! time wasting customers, not enough communication from management, pay is not good enough for the job you are doing! Any chance to take your commission away they will take it, no matter how hard you have worked all month! Just avoid please!!!

Don’t do it to yourself
Holiday Sales Advisor (Former Employee) - Folkestone, Kent - 9 September 2019
All started great until they asked for dbs after finishing 4-5 weeks of classroom training which they wasn’t satisfied with as offence on dbs was only 5 years old and not spent. Management don’t really speak to each other and are so far up themselves. Company is going downhill and losing money everyday I would avoid.

Official response from Saga
5 December 2019Hello, Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. As a company that operates under FCA regulation we carry out vetting of all staff when they join us. We also ask candidates to complete a declaration prior to starting where we can have an open and honest conversation about any concerns that may come up on a DBS. I am sorry that you were not able to provide the information we required and that your time with us was short. If you wish to discuss further please contact me at saga.careers@saga.co.uk Kind regards, Gary N.

Claims Advisor (Former Employee) - Folkestone - 1 July 2019
The job itself was inbound calls from customers who think they are better than you. The pay was not worth the hours or the stress. The hours were ridiculous and the management was overall poor.
Pros
Good colleagues
Cons
Bad pay, bad hours and stressful job

Facility’s (Former Employee) - Folkestone, Kent - 5 June 2019
Saga has got to be one of the worst employers I have ever worked for , they talk the talk but can’t even walk .long hrs for laughable wages middle management are a group of friends that have as much training as a performing chimp and have no people or communication skills what so ever. If you want to get ahead and progress good luck unless you are sleeping with a manager, everyone is always stressed and or crying every day .... good luck you’re going to need it
Pros
Home time
Cons

Awful
Services (Current Employee) - Folkestone, Kent - 28 February 2019
Terrible company,
Treat there staff terribly with constant favourites, your timed and monitored every single Minute of the day.
The managers talk down to you, the pay is absoubtly shocking. Some targets impossible to meet if you say 1 wrong thing on the phone you can’t get to your target all as another way of making sure they can pay you next to nothing.
no progression, no care. Working very very hard and not seeing the benefits. 99.9% of staff absolutely despise working there. Do not work there. It’s a black hole of disappointment.
Pros
Free bus
Cons
There aren’t enough bullet points in the world

Run away do not join Saga
Customer Service Advisor (Current Employee) - Folkestone, Kent - 2 August 2018
I'm based in customer service in Folkestone. I'm earning about £8.15 an hour and don't get sick pay. Someone actually asked me why i bother going to work as my pay is so poor. Manager's will go on about the 'Rem levels' but unless you never go sick, never go non comp, always hit your targets you'll never move up the rem levels. One Saga doesn't exist as call centre staff are treated appallingly compared to other departments. Staff are leaving all the time and morale is rock bottom. No-one listens or cares. Don't fall for the bull they give you at the assessment dsys, progress is virtually impossible from customer services to elsewhere in the business, money is dire, targets not achievable and perks pretty non existent. Just walk away and consider yourself lucky if you never get to work here.
Pros
Home time, private healthcare
Cons
Pay. Management, morale

Jobs at Saga
in FolkestoneWeirdly run
Marketing (Former Employee) - Folkestone, Kent - 27 July 2018
For all their talk of a unified company, no one know what others are doing, so frequently work streams are duplicated. The top bosses, paid huge amounts of money, seem unaware of this. Chaotic. Frustrating. A shame as the brand is placed to benefit from an aging population but it appears not to understand them, except in the most superficial way. Hence the company is not doing very well. Heard people in the call centre are not paid for sick days... v low wages there too.
Pros
Some good staff benefits. Nice workers
Cons
Bad internal comms. Low salaries.

Stressful place to work
Insurance Agent (Former Employee) - Folkestone, Kent - 16 September 2017
Stressful place to work with poor work life balance due to constantly changing shift patterns. You also get timed for comfort breaks which is time spent going to the toilet. Hardest part of the job is sitting down all day taking call after call. Best part of the job, the people you make friends with.
Pros
The people
Cons
Poor work life balance

mixed feelings - draining at times but fun work enviroment in my team
Customer Service Advisor (Current Employee) - Folkestone, Kent - 9 May 2017
If it wasn't for the on floor fun and jokes with other colleagues within my team I doubt I would of lasted this long In the call centres on the phone.
in busy periods its hard to stay productive I feel they ask a lot of you with badly spaced breaks throughout the day.
too many targets to hit and too many issues that can cause those
targets not to be possible to hit.
most enjoyable part is when you get a nice customer on the phone or if your lucky for some down time to sit and chat and have a laugh with colleagues which doesn't happen often
Pros
team mates, benefits, I have a good manager
Cons
long hours, holiday sometimes hard to get, system issues

Extremely stressfull
travel/motor sales advisor (Current Employee) - middelburg, folkestone - 8 September 2016
I have worked as an insurance adviser for about a year now and have been looking for another job for about five months. The only thing keeping me at Saga is the good pay, you can't complain about that, especially if you hit targets and get good commission. As for the working environment, I walk in to people in tears because of the stress of the job. I've never seen such a high turnover of staff as there is here. Instead of management listening to the agents and improving the system they're happy for you to leave without a second thought, you will be replaced in an instant. I trained with 12 others and there's only two of us left, most left within the first 6 months.
If you want to work here just be aware you need to be able to deal with constant coaching, you're only as good as your last mistake, not a lot of praise for the good work you do. You can lose all your commission if you forget to say one thing on the phone, no consideration is taken if you're having an off day, you have to be on the ball every minute you're in there, leave your personal life at home. Angry customers, constantly, if you take things personally it's not the job for you.
I can only speak for sales and customer service departments, but about 5% of people enjoy their work, even enjoy is a strong word. There's extremely low morale, you will hear people moaning about the work constantly. Targets are unrealistic, as an example you can lose all your commission if the people you sell to don't have an email address to send their documents to.
Saga work under the guise that they care for their -
Pros
very friendly colleagues who support each other
Cons
bad management, no support for stress, patronising coaching

Good experience int sales and work life
Insurance telesales (Former Employee) - Folkestone - 21 March 2016
A typical day at work would be turning up and setting up computer and phone ready for shift start. wait for incoming calls for travel insurance quotations. I learned how to manage my time better and working in a team, I also gained a lot of confidence on the phone and realized my potential for sales or customer service.
Higher management were great and very supportive during my time there. Unfortunately team manager could be slightly unprofessional.
The most enjoyable part of my job was working towards my targets and competing in my team against the other teams in the department.
Pros
Great atmosphere amongst team
Cons
Team Manager unproffesional
