Admin (Current Employee) - Kent - 7 February 2021
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedPros: Their nursery for the staffs children is amazing and Ofsted 1. IT team have worked really hard to get us working from home. Apprenticeships available. Flexible working in some roles. Cons: Management do not care about your well being, only the figures. Every second of your working day is monitored and scored against targets you even get a ranking in your team about how good/bad your doing. Lots of redundancies. POOR wages for under-management roles and they fail to increase them every year in a way that the employees deserve. They will tell you how much profit the business is making in the same breath. No freedom of speech. Multiple staff off sick for stress, many heading that way. They offer the chance to speak up with mental health issues but as soon as you do your shut back down again and told to get on with the job. No career progression so you get stuck in your job. They will ask you however to increase your workload and help other departments, which is probably why there are no job opportunities because they source the extra hands from elsewhere. We have staff surveys now, but the responses to our complaints are like ‘huh, give us an example’ or ‘I’ve never witnessed that’. Pure denial. Oh I could go on, it’s so disappointing.

Very warm and great work place
Insurance Broker (Former Employee) - Kent - 6 February 2017
A typical day at work would be for me a great time to challenge myself, I love knowing that I have made an achievement at least once a day. Its good to always have that mind set to go the extra mile at whatsoever you do. In saga I learned not only the basics to my role but also the ethics too, every workplace has its own culture and sagas was warm, friendly and welcoming, everyday was a day to look forward to. Speaking of culture it always felt merry to be in the office with my team, the culture for saga was amazing teamwork. every team had incentives and it made the workplace very fun to be in. hard work was always awarded. As enjoyable as the workplace was I found it very hard when I first joined, I lacked confidence and I lacked belief in my skills, but with time I found that those weaknesses actually became my strengths. The most enjoyable parts of my job was getting appreciated for my efforts and also working with a bunch of great people.
Pros
1 hour luch break
Cons
compulsory overtime

Not So Great
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - Hastings, East Sussex - 7 January 2017
I was a sales Advisor on the phones, it starts of so great training is amazing and to be honest everything is sugar coated ALOT, when you get to the floor is when you really learn though! You do get abused a lot on the phone and it is hard work! Near the end of my time there I was diagnosed with mental health issues, I was unfortunately penalised because of that, if I said I was having an off day and that I needed a bit of support it was 'snap out of it and get on' eventually the stress got to me so much that I began to do everything wrong eventually leading to my end at the company! If you do want to work there it is fun but management and their thoughts on issues is AWFUL!
Pros
Meet amazing people (colleagues) and pay
Cons
Management, customers are always angry at the ridiculous prices. Very negative atmosphere

Counterintuitive yet still productive
Sales Advisor (Former Employee) - Hastings - 15 September 2016
I feel as if Saga has some great pathways you can choose from. It is a very good place to go for confidence building, skill learning and general socialising. Yet some of the management department suffer greatly. They lack crucial skills, knowledge and empathy for others. It essentially is a glorified Lone Ranger mission, with seldom bursts of teamwork; unless of course you are in the top section of the hierarchy.
You definitely have to adapt an 'Ignorance is bliss' approach to further yourself in the company.
Pros
Great in company benefits, salary, discounts off company products
Cons
You're faced with idiots, the system is corrupt, unrealistic expectations

Extremely stressfull
travel/motor sales advisor (Current Employee) - middelburg, folkestone - 8 September 2016
I have worked as an insurance adviser for about a year now and have been looking for another job for about five months. The only thing keeping me at Saga is the good pay, you can't complain about that, especially if you hit targets and get good commission. As for the working environment, I walk in to people in tears because of the stress of the job. I've never seen such a high turnover of staff as there is here. Instead of management listening to the agents and improving the system they're happy for you to leave without a second thought, you will be replaced in an instant. I trained with 12 others and there's only two of us left, most left within the first 6 months.
If you want to work here just be aware you need to be able to deal with constant coaching, you're only as good as your last mistake, not a lot of praise for the good work you do. You can lose all your commission if you forget to say one thing on the phone, no consideration is taken if you're having an off day, you have to be on the ball every minute you're in there, leave your personal life at home. Angry customers, constantly, if you take things personally it's not the job for you.
I can only speak for sales and customer service departments, but about 5% of people enjoy their work, even enjoy is a strong word. There's extremely low morale, you will hear people moaning about the work constantly. Targets are unrealistic, as an example you can lose all your commission if the people you sell to don't have an email address to send their documents to.
Saga work under the guise that they care for their -
Pros
very friendly colleagues who support each other

bad management, no support for stress, patronising coaching

Good experience int sales and work life
Insurance telesales (Former Employee) - Folkestone - 21 March 2016
A typical day at work would be turning up and setting up computer and phone ready for shift start. wait for incoming calls for travel insurance quotations. I learned how to manage my time better and working in a team, I also gained a lot of confidence on the phone and realized my potential for sales or customer service.
Higher management were great and very supportive during my time there. Unfortunately team manager could be slightly unprofessional.
The most enjoyable part of my job was working towards my targets and competing in my team against the other teams in the department.
Pros
Great atmosphere amongst team
Cons
Team Manager unproffesional

Difficult place to work
Customer Service Agent (Former Employee) - ENG - 21 September 2015
Saga was a difficult place to work mainly because of the high staff turnover. Never really got know many people there. Day would consist of answering the phone to customer queries/complaints, then being expected to sell another product to them. Hardest part was to sell a product to someone who is complaining most enjoyable part was when you sold something and hit targets
Pros
Good work space
Cons
Difficult selling conditions

theft, fire, vandaism claims handler (Current Employee) - ENG - 6 September 2015
Work is currently 9 hours a day liaising with clients, supplier and police. Investigation of suspect claims, telephone interviews,Since working here i have learned to listen to decipher what suspect clients are not telling us and to forward think and look outside the box. The current team i work with are very new and young so i am enjoying imparting my experience and coaching them in claims handling and investigation. The hardest part of my job is remaining calm when being shouted at by clients venting their frustrations and not to take it personally. The thing i enjoy most is the investigation and the coaching ,
Pros
free coffee, options to enhance my skills
Cons
long hours and constant change of shift patterns

Fun and friendly work place
Kitchen Assistant (Former Employee) - Ramsgate, ENG - 23 May 2015
It was a really fun place to do my work experience for a week and they asked me to stay on for another week so I did that but I had to go back to school to continue my studies. But it was the ideal work environment with friendly faces everyday and I got to learn about peoples cultures.
Pros
I got a free lunch when i did my work experience and the hours were really good.

Occupation
Customer Service Advisor (Current Employee) - Ramsgate, ENG - 6 January 2015
My everyday work is around meeting targets on a day to day basis and also meeting the customer needs. During my time at SAGA i have learned how to properly identify leads to create selling opportunities and also communicating in the proper manner to customers.

Enjoyable yet strenuous working environment. Must be a strong willed individual willing to lay down your own boundries with the office from day one.
Community Carer (Former Employee) - Darlington - 14 July 2014
I extremely enjoyed my time with SAGA Healthcare as not only did i thoroughly enjoy the work and help i gave in the community but was often rewarded by being told so from families, District Nurses, Rapid Response and also the main office. I was complimented on my professionalism and initiative to think smartly, safely and easily to ensure a comfortable and happy environment for service users in their own homes or even out in the community, whatever task may be that i was carrying out.
Sadly when i first started out i took on to much work from the office which was 6 days which were Tuesdays through till Sundays from morning till night. After a while this became un-maintainable as i needed more time to rest as i was becoming exhausted and often unwell with viral infections. When i tried to reduce my working days by one and even the length of my working days by a small amount the office staff were very unsupported and unwilling to let me do so and i felt as though i was made to feel guilty for not taking on the extra work.
Pros
If you wish to enroll and are offered then there are many opportunity to gain qualifications
Cons
long and gappy days
