Stressful but sociable hours.
Sales Assistant (Current Employee) - East London, Greater London - 26 April 2022
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedVery stressful. Managers will always be on your case for SAS (upselling perfumes to costumers) . Hours given is based on how much you sell. Good for uni students or people who want a good work-life balance.

Avoid unless you have no life
Supervisor (Former Employee) - Paignton, Devon - 21 April 2022
Would not recommend this company to work for, all they care about is money in the tills, they do not care about the staffs emotional and mental wellbeing at all.You will be expected to work long hours with very little breaks and the pay is shocking, having to sell sas is super hard work and if you don't sell enough you can be put under investigation. I now do a lot less and am been paid the same as when I was a member of management at savers, which may I add is one of the most stressful jobs I have ever done, you are constantly expected to do more and more, deadlines, targets and budgets have to be met always, you might aswel sleep there as you won't actually get to go home and see your family much. The only good thing I can say is there is always a good team spirit, but other than that it is a thankless job and only the big Big bosses get to reap the rewards for all your hardwork.
Pros
None
Cons
Long hours, shocking pay, rubbish company

Low pay but easy job
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - Westcliff-On-Sea, Essex - 8 April 2022
The pay was very low for what you do. Often you would have to do extra shifts as we’re short staffed. Would be backed into a corner to work the next day. On tills you’d have to active sell products, with a target to reach each day. You’d get pressured to reach this target and could become stressful. The job was fairly simple, could get quite busy but slow in morning and evenings. The store is only closed on Christmas Day, meaning having to work on bank holidays. If you rang in sick the management would get annoyed and often felt pressured to go in anyway. Aside from this the team was very friendly and like a family environment.

Decent job if you don't need hours
Sales Assistant (Current Employee) - Wakefield - 26 March 2022
Working at Savers is great if you just need a little pocket money, but if you have bills and responsibilities, don't work here. You dont get thought about if you arent Management, they get salaried hours so they don't have to worry about hours been cut or no overtime! Don't get me wrong, most of the Management do try their best to help where they can, but its useless if the decision has to go to someone higher than them.
Pros
Very flexible with hours
Cons
Can work there a long time and get no where, no promotions, nothing!

Nice customers & staff are all nice… most of the time.
Sales Assistant (Current Employee) - West Midlands - 19 February 2022
Work is fairly easy going ,however some workers aren’t the nicest and get called in all the time on your days off. Most customers are nice however, you get a few nasty ones and a lot of shop lifters
Pros
30min lunch break Nice customers Superdrug discount
Cons
Some staff are nasty Tight on hours

If you love not seeing friends and family, this is the place for you.
Supervisor (Former Employee) - Prefer not to say - 31 January 2022
Like all jobs, there are pro’s there are cons. But in the last 12 months a lot more cons. The management expect far to much from you, you can do everything that’s asked and more and it’s never recognised, but as soon as something minor appears they head straight down the formal proceedings. There is obvious favourites amongst some of the management team. Working 55 hours a week with no balance at all. Told to take time back in Lieu but never ever happens so not only under paid but not given the time back. The hours worked can sometimes mean your basically working under minimum wage, yet send out training making sure if cashiers are out 15 minutes late they are to be paid for it. But not management. No pay rise last year to make up for the loss in the pandemic, bonus has become near impossible to hit targets for now.
Pros
The team in store
Cons
No work/life balance

Retail Sales Assistant (Current Employee) - Dundee,wellgate centre saver's - 16 January 2022
Saver's is an excellent company to work for.we have a great team in our store and work well together.full flexibility is expected with rota's ,but rota's always fairly done.average hourly rate of pay for retail!! Plent of veriety in tasks,IE working on tills, working on shop floor filling shelves and working delivery on store delivery days.
Pros
Good staff discount, from our sister companies.the management are very accomodating with rota's if needed.
Cons
Not enough of a budget for staff to do overtime and therefore earn more money.

Don't do it
Store Manager (Current Employee) - Rather not say - 15 November 2021
Many years worked for this company and during the past 18 months or so they have really shown their true colours. It's all about the money. No duty of care for staff. H/O have been ok as they can 'work from home'. They bang on about caring about people's mental health but they really don't. No support at all when you're feeling stressed, made to feel like you can't even have a day off sick when you're poorly, and encouraged to take sick and annual leave. Staff turnover very high in all stores. Surely the big wigs can see why?! Pay is minimum wage. Management is salary, so regardless of if you work your 39 hours a week or 60 a week you'll always have the same pay. Bonus scheme used to be half decent but now its near on impossible to hit budgets. Please Savers, look after the people you have!!!
Pros
I honestly can't think of any anymore!
Cons
Poor pay, long hours, stressful, not understanding.

A culture of bullying in a budget store.
Supervisor (Current Employee) - Rather not Say - 15 July 2021
I guess the only good thing to say about working at Savers is you will have a good work-life balance because you won't get enough hours for it to interfere with your life. The job is banal, boring, repetitive and in the end erosive. You will either be serving on the till and trying to force feed perfumes e.t.c to customers (who just want to buy their shopping and leave), work behind the till is limited to tasks like facing up perfumes, security tagging more expensive products and other adhoc duties given by management, the till area is cramped and if customers have lots of shopping it is very awkward to pack. I found the customers the best thing, you get to know the regulars and can have at least some banter in an otherwise hostile environment. If you are not serving on the tills or you will be facing up the store and making sure everything is placed and in order, this may include replenishing shelves from drawers or putting deliveries out. During the recent pandemic there was no real attempt to limit the number of customers allowed in the store bearing in mind most are smaller outlets on the high street. There was also no provision in the beginning for hand sanitizer or disinfecting of baskets. I was aware that members of staff came into work whilst unwell, not testing or in full knowledge they had been in close contact with someone who had tested positive. As the pandemic went on things did improve for customers but not for employees who were put at risk by their co-workers. Finally onto management and the treatment of staff. The nature of the job is to be the best in your -

Not the best
Sales Assistant (Current Employee) - London - 30 June 2021
Pay is quite low in my opinion, compared to my previous jobs, short shifts, low contracted hours. a lot of pressure on cashiers to promote perfumes “on offer”. Managers can be okay it just depends on who you work with, other colleagues are usually pretty friendly and helpful.
Pros
discount at superdrug
Cons
low pay, short shifts

Negative environment
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - Birmingham, West Midlands - 29 June 2021
A lot of negativity in the workplace, never had a set manager for 6 months and sales assistant’s get treated so badly and like they are useless. Hours would get cut half way through the week with no explanation.
Pros
Long lunch break, flexible
Cons
Management, hours
