If you were in charge, what would you do to make Screwfix a better place to work?

  • Make it a fairer place to work. Move away from the “if you’re face fits” culture, and treat people accordingly for the skill set they actually have.
Stop encouraging in store relationships that end up with shift rotas becoming very biased, with partners having select shifts.

Stop pretending that you know what it’s like to work at a screwfix branch, you clearly have no idea!

Work in store for a month, with no premeditated scenarios for you to act along to. Suffer the abuse from customers because they have been let down again.

  • Actually pay staff their worth rather than brag about how much money they donate outside the company or pull in for the sales, the supervisor wage isn’t even worth going up for let alone the pennies you get paid as an SA, on top of all that employee welfare is non existent within screwfix because everyone is replaceable. They also need to re-evaluate all the area managers as they literally do nothing and get offended when asked difficult questions resulting in them just walking away saying you have an attitude. Overall the company could be run better for all staff, but unfortunately it’s the top lot who look after themselves and pat each other on the back when it’s the sales assistants doing all the leg work.

  • Look after Staff much better instead of putting Wealth before Employee's Health all the time. Offer Improved Contracts to those always willing to work overtime. And make sure Internal Promotions are based on merit and not by the Nepotism of Area/Branch Management.

  • I would remove the cap on pay at all levels, Screwfix struggle with peak trading but yet the maximum working hours are restricted to 37.5 anything above this goes to a premium rate and therefore it’s avoided. I think the company should leave it at single rate of pay that way at least people are earning the rewards of working above 37.5 when business needs it the most instead of taking it as lieu time. I’ve worked in management and have to work lots of hours to meet business needs, very difficult to take the time back but would much appreciate the pay. I am passionate about my job but this rule is not a good one! Please pay everyone for everything they work

  • Replace managers with ones who are staff and customer orientated and not wee hitler's

  • Related questions (more answers below):

  • Ensure that the management treat people with the respect they deserve

  • There would be nothing i would change
