It's a job

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
If you have a great team to work with, then it makes for a pretty good shift. Management are a bit of a hit and a miss. Very little communication from them. Been with the company almost a year, still do not have a uniform and I know I will not be reimbursed for the one I bought myself.. All in all it's an okay job, the hours are pretty good and the wage is reasonable. Really just depends who you end up working with.

I've seen behind the curtain

I've been with them a long time (through several departments and roles) and there is a lot happening in the company, but the company cuts its nose off to spite it's face.Generally about SG: Doesn't guarantee hours for sites that require specific training. Then the client is angry because they get untrained staff or substandard subcontractors (they wouldn't need subcontractors if they guaranteed hours, even part time contract hours) Managers don't actually hear the staff, and can be really difficult to deal with. Ignoring holiday requests, pestering guards on days off asking them to work, being generally difficult to reach with concerns. (There are some exceptions, but a good manager shouldn't be the rare case) Managers tend to burn out really quickly, it's not an easy job and quite stressful, especially for the good ones. When they leave it takes a while before the position is filled and a lot of staff are left in limbo, and struggle to get their concerns heard, requests made, etc. The company has a large foreign workforce and there can be langauge barriers that come with that, the company can be very unsympathetic when dealing with workers who struggle with English or who are non-native speakers. They are big on training and make everyone do a lot of internal online modules but don't bother to assist those still learning english. A lot of people epecially lower level employees feel they are just a bum in a seat/ a number. Those lower level employees you have direct contact with amazing people and the reason people last as long within the company. There are plenty -

Make sure not to have a serious medical emergency whilst working for them

Or you'll be told to stop coming to work and put on disciplinary without even having a chance to explain that you were hospitalised. Management do not care about you at all and they do not back their staff up when clients express uncertainty.

Not best company to work for.

Extremely hard to progress, no clear career path. Rate not that competitive. Hours are okay and if you want over time it is there Management don't care too much about certain things. Loyalty is not rewarded in any way.

Pros

Hours

Cons

No career progression

Productive and challenging

This company is the best that i have worked for. They care about you as a person and do not treat you as a number like other companies. I have been with them for over 2 years now and ive had no problems what so ever. They pay on time, holiday pays ect. They could slightly improve in there salary side of things especially for night shifts. Overall perfect company to work for without any hassle.

Pros

Excellent management, pay on time

Cons

Salary

Awful management

Genuinely one of the worst companies I’ve worked for. Management had a terrible attitude and treated like I was a nuisance if I contacted them about concerns. Put on sites over 50 miles away and told that a patrol car would be there to pick me up and take me home then contacted part way through my shift to say that I would have to make my own way home. Lack of staff to cover shifts so didn’t feel like I could take annual leave and then when I left was told that my annual leave won’t carry over so I had taken 3 days in a year and that was it.I raised my concerns about a manager but because he had left was told that they weren’t interested in hearing it. AVOID.

Fantastic team to work with

Fantastic team of people who all look out for eachother whilst working hard and ensuring that the clients standards are met and exceeded . The company offers a variety of training opportunities along with the chance to travel to different locations and assist other teams during peak seasons

Stressful

Stressful and poor working hours. Not helpful when asking questions but always want a favour from you. Some lazy people and management only out for them

Poorly managed

Expected you to do more work and not adjust pay despite others being paid the same or more for doing much less. Management had no idea how to talk to employees without making things worse

Pros

None

Cons

Bullying, harassment

Something to know about

SGL has a good record with most of its staff BUT the door supervisor job IS NOT for everyone. Just be aware that they're incredibly short staffed and they WILL pull/phone you to work outside of your normal allocation of shift. If you can help then say yes but ALWAYS remember you can say NO.

Pros

Great if you get a good Line Manager

Cons

Payroll are SLOW

Well if you need to pay your bills then you gotta work

Is an OK place... be carefull there are snitches there too.. go to work do your job and go home .. as people are willing to stab you in the back once you are off.

Not as promised

You have to pay an insurance premium out of your wage which is low in the first place. At interview you apply for a corporate security job after a week of working for the company you are diverted to other types of security. Constant promises that you will get full time security work which never materializes. I got a rude message after telling them I was not feeling well and could not attend. Difficult to get a uniform from them.

Pros

You are not on the dole.

Cons

I believe I was discriminated against and was getting the bad sites most of the time.

Good and bad

I worked for Securigroup for around 2 years. After 2 months I moved up to an Area Supervisor. I had a lot of good times working on the doors for pubs and clubs, but the management can breathe down your neck and threaten to fire you if you need a shift off (Even if you advise in advance) besides this, if you show up for your shift, do it well, the job is not bad. You do have a lot of free time during the week as the shifts tend to be friday/saturday nights (Sometimes extra shifts depending on location and contracts)

Pros

Good company whilst on shifts, and do get offered extra shifts if you've shown to be keen on working.

Cons

Minimum wage when doing door shifts unless you've been a bouncer your whole life it seems.
