Poor Management Teams, Unhealthy shift patterns

The shifts are long and you can be on your own. You never get 1 place to work so youre always moving around. Pay is poor. Management team is poor with very inexperienced supervisors in charge. Zero flexibility with shifts etc and getting time off for holidays or even time off for funerals etc, should you need it, is really difficult as there is no humility among the management. Generally poor employers, would not recommend!

Pros

Security Clearance gained

Cons

Long shifts, Lone working, Poor Pay, Unhealthy shift patterns, Poor Management teams

Job not too bad

Job isn't too bad in all honesty but the higher management made everything unbearable. Not knowing if you were going to be working g at the site you applied for or another site when they are short staffed. Hardly any notice of change of shift and no help from site managers

Pros

Paid breaks

Cons

Long hours, bad managers

Not the greatest

I’ve worked for Securitas 3 times in different capacities and initially enjoyed my role at first, working a 4on 4off pattern with plenty of overtime available if needed. The job itself was fun and interesting with no 2 days the same and my manager was pretty decent. However, things changed when the mobile division was restructured and we were left with one manager trying to run 4 branches across 5 counties and he always seemed to be on holiday. Not really his fault but he was bitter about being overlooked for promotion and didn’t get on with his own manager so there was always conflict between them and he had a very negative style. Things just weren’t getting done and it was impossible to get any urgent support. Pay wasn’t great either.

Pros

Interesting work, freedom to manage your own day

Cons

Lack of support when things go wrong

Disappointing decline in how guards are regarded

Long hours for poor pay, no formal training opportunities, no opportunity for career advancement or for ambitious people.Securitas have recently begun a policy of wage supression while blatantly lying about promised salary "negotiations". Instead they now wait until individual sites are caught up and over-taken by the minimum wage rate then base any increase on the minimum wage whilst claiming they would have paid that rate anyway. Management are remote and do not care about the welfare of front-line staff. They are also deceitful and not be trusted. Front line staff are regarded as disposable and easily replaced. Any complaints are met with, "if you don't like it, leave!".

Plenty of hours

The hourly rate can be decent but even if it’s average there’s plenty of hours so you can earn a decent amount if you put the time in.My Management are pretty good, helpful but depends on where you are I guess The job again is decent but may vary depending where you are and who you work with

.Great Management

.Management take an interest in your personal life and are flexible when it comes to shift swaps when needed. Plenty of overtime available also. Hardest part of the job is mornings with bad weather!

Pros

Good communications

Cons

Takes a while for replacement uniform to arrive if you have the wrong size

Great management

We changed over to G4s back in 2010. Not the same. Securitas management were excellent. They really had our back compared to G4s who are an embarrassment to the industry.

Nice company

Opportunities for progression because they can’t keep anyone in position for longer than a year. The experience you have is dependant on your manager, there are some great managers in the business that aren’t given the autonomy to manage their people properly and make their own decisions. You can work with some great clients and people.

Awful company

Dont do it. Will send you as far as 3 hours away from your home address with minimum notice, If its too short notice will then roster you for Christmas day, after requesting that one and only day off, despite having officers wanting to work Christmas day. Company full of snakes who will throw you under the bus in a heartbeat to benefit themselves

Pros

Money to be made

Cons

Bar money being easily made. Everything

Not bad

Not bad so far. Transferred from a hectic site to mobile and feel a lot happier for it. Staff are great. Only negative is the shift pattern as it does take it out of you at times.

Driver custodian

Cash in transit Can be a good job most of the time Unfortunately management want more and more profit and puts us driver custodians in danger to maximise profits. When I first started with the company there was two guards per truck/van and one man vans was bought in by office boys who never leave the safty of a highly secured building so it's passed to us runts on the road to risk everything so the shareholders can profit

Pros

Good work mates

Cons

Danger all the time

Securitas / BP Oil - ME3

Duties at this site are industry standard, with additional duties for ships. The shift pattern/hours industry standard. The officers are good guys. Supervisor/Management and client cause a toxic environment. It's on the Isle of Grain so quite a bit further than Medway. It's poorly paid for what you do, especially considering it's a National Infrastructure site. I would not recommend this site.

Its a job

Lowest paid in most fields, it's all just very mediocre. Few good eggs. Management doesn't really care as long as you turn up on time. They always seem to be too busy to deal with whatever it is you're needing

Pros

Its a job

Cons

Don't expect to stay long

Far too much expected of each individual

Salary appears ok on the face of it. Once embedded it becomes very clear every one is completing the roles of at least 2 to 3 people. This makes the salary feel like a pittance. In operational management roles expect to be available on call 24/7 at the very least 1 week in 3, where you will be disturbed every night and weekend to the point where personal life becomes non existent and work takes over everything. Despite this task not being contractual AND unpaid you will be disciplined for missing a call in your free time.Toxic culture from the top down, which manifests itself in complete silence from the management team and a fear of raising issues. As a result the whole management cohort are frightened of making and taking decisions and any decision making is deferred upwards. This renders the business paralysed, impotent and devoid of any meaningful or intelligent input. Redundancy processes and restructures are run at the very least annually but depending on department you will be placed at risk, bi annually as a bare minimum. You will be expected to consistently take on more and more work covering sickness and leavers to save the company money until of course you burn out yourself and then at that point you will be replaced. No one person ever succeeds in their role because no one person ever gets to experience and flourish only in their role. Expect to achieve no more than 75% of your role and fully expect to be chastised (not praised for the 75% you do achieve) daily for the 25% you don’t achieve. In short, avoid unless you are absolutely desperate for a job.  -
