Great Job for Students

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
In the time I worked for Selective Personnel I absolutely loved it. Though the pay was nothing to brag about, the shifts were flexible and it was up to me when I worked - perfect for students. I had a lot of fun working for Selective Personnel and met a lot of really nice people along the way. The gained a lot of from the experience and would highly recommend them as an employer.

Pros

Work Flexibility

Cons

Low Pay

Very disorganised & hostile environment

You often wouldn't get shifts until you the day of / the day before you were expected to work, despite having to apply in advance. They employed people that had no experience, assured them that they would receive training, and then sent them to events with external managers and other employees that treated them terribly due to being annoyed by their lack of training! Obviously, it is understandable to be annoyed when an agency sends staff that lack training, but to tell individuals they would receive training then put them in an environment that they were not equipt to deal with and were treated very badly in is unacceptable.

Pros

Sometimes you got tips

Cons

No provided food / very bad food, lack of training, poor management

Average

Good for students and those that need flexible work but the staff are absolutely not looked after properly and are often put in situations where they are not comfortable (e.g. working around drunk people without proper training, guidance or help from higher ups). I hope this has changed since I worked there.Good if you need experience in a lot of different hospitality sectors but there are other agencies in Glasgow/Edinburgh that pay better.

Pros

You make friends with likeminded people

Cons

Long hours without appropriate breaks

Solid workplace

Incredibly flexible, get to control your own hours. In non pandemic times there's a fair amount of work. and the atmosphere changes job to job. Ideal for students.

Convenient Work

A good job to have when a student. There is an app where you are able to pick when and where you work. The main manager is really nice. You mainly work in hospitality at football/rugby games.

Fun workplace

Very flexible as you get to decide which shifts you would like to work. Good for students. You get the choice of many different venues to work for events etc. sometimes you do bar work and sometimes its wait staff. They explain every shift on an app with all the details you need to know.

Bonus money

This job is ideal for students and those simply looking for some extra money on the side of their income. It can be stressful, highly pressurised and demanding. Job security is fairly poor and there can be periods when no shifts go up for long stretches of time.

Good for students

Good job for students and can be worked flexibly around other part-time work. It is very hard to make this job a full-time job though as you are not garanted a set number of hours or shifts and the amount you work varies week on week.

Pros

Flexible

Cons

No garanted shifts.
