Fast paced.
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - Birmingham, West Midlands - 7 September 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedFast paced. However lacks opportunity . Management is clearly lacking in direction. Each department has its pros/cons. Would only recommend for part time employees. Not somewhere you would build a career out of.

OK part time work
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - Manchester, Greater Manchester - 10 February 2023
Ok job for part time work during studies. Floor teams are great as is management. Good food prices in staff canteen (joint with M&S) so don't have to go out for lunch

Good Salary but unprofessional management team
Sales Advisor (Former Employee) - Birmingham, West Midlands - 23 January 2023
The management team were unorganised and unprofessional.A lot of the management team ( on womenswear) came across as very snobby and rude at times.Which made me feel really uncomfortable working in this type of environment.
Pros
Good salary and commissions
Cons
Management team

Xmas temp
Sales Associate (Former Employee) - Christmas Market - 21 January 2023
When working during the Christmas period be careful where they place you because I applied for the Food department but was put into the Christmas market. I initially perceived it to be indoor but it was outside in the cold and working in the cold weather was not ideal. The manager I had was nice and helpful and they gave me a drink(tea/coffee) from a company in the Christmas market towards the middle of the Christmas period. Also, they did also buy me a long sleeve to wear because of the freezing cold weather. I got paid £10:85 an hour. But they didn’t give me much discount as I was temp (only 20% off). You don’t have to do much as I just had to greet customers and sign them in, operate on tills and open the hut. A very frustrating thing about the company is that you have to go through a whole separate building to get a locker to leave your stuff in during your shift which is time consuming and sometimes they didn’t used to work. The colleagues I worked with were great too.
Pros
Pay for a seventeen year old.
Cons
Working outside for a whole month.

Great place to work
Customer Sales Advisor (Current Employee) - Manchester Exchange Square - 5 January 2023
Nice staff, facilities, great canteen with food supplies so you never really have to buy lunch or go anywhere else. It's all free. Managers are very relaxed. Good atmosphere and nice and clean back of house. You can see how well they treat there customers but they treat there staff the same and everyone is well looked after which is a joy to see in retail and it's not very often that happens. There's even a wellness room so staff can go somewhere really quiet to take a nap etc. I was only a temp but I would gladly come back if they ever the opportunity arised.

Good name to have on your cv
Sales/Lingerie Stockroom Assistant (Former Employee) - Women's Designer Room - 4 January 2023
I worked at the flagship store in Birmingham, which immediately got me a job in London. It's a good career move. I also went back to Selfridges a few years later and although nobody would provide me with references, they still gave me a job on the day of the interview because I had already worked for them.
Pros
Luxurious place to work in
Cons
Can be quiet and boring and they expect you to meet ridiculous targets when they have no customers, who can afford the stuff

Lovely people. Amazing work environment, the hours are good and the pay is good. Amazing management, really wish I could stay in longer but unfortunately was only employed as Christmas temp

Worse place to work save yourself
Sales Assistant kids designer wear (Former Employee) - Birmingham - 23 December 2022
This is a very toxic work environment. Even the managers get treated very badly. They’ll replace you instantly. Your coworkers will always set you up. There’s no benefits at all. Rude staff. No job security. They pretend to have support in place but in reality it’s very unhelpful. It’s just a show.

Fun work environment but lack of progression
Loading Bay Operations (Former Employee) - London - 18 December 2022
Very fun to work in Selfridges as it's such a family atmosphere between all the staff throughout. But the floor managers are stuck in their ways and the management was terrible. When you need them they are not there. And when you look for them most times they are found in their staff room eating at peak periods of service. HR are the worse. They come across to have super personalities but they will lookout for a managers interests and have their backs only in such things as an investigations etc. But for staff members it's the complete opposite so beware of that
Pros
The great environment all the staff members created
Cons
The System

Exciting but challenging
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - Oxford Street, Greater London - 16 December 2022
Store is comfortable to work in, no issues with temperature. The store is massive though so to get to the staff entrance and to the shop floor is an extra 15 mins on top of your journey.

Energetic atmosphere
Concession Manager (Former Employee) - London, Greater London - 5 December 2022
I had lots of fun working as a concession manager at Selfridges. You meet so many talented people from all walks of life, genuinely one of the best retail stores to work at.

Lively, fashionable place to work with lots of opportunity for development
Shoe Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - Manchester, Greater Manchester - 4 December 2022
I love working here - lively atmosphere, feels like you're on a night out as it is very social. Loads of incentives, free stuff, competitions in sales over the weekend. Management is good overall in parts but lacking in some other specific departments. I started here young out of school with no degree and my pay and experience has been more than I could have asked.
Pros
Prizes and incentives/Commission based sales
Cons
Long hours, Deliveries

Toxic managers
Specialist (Current Employee) - Trafford, Greater Manchester - 25 November 2022
So much potential but brand values that are delivered and drilled into the team seem to bypass the senior managers. As a business mental health, community, diversity are all highlighted but not adhered to by management. Lots of conversations about developing but the reality is different, Pdps in place for people to jump through hoops endlessly. Diversity message but you are judged on your outfit, styling etc.

good place
Assistant Manager (Former Employee) - London, Greater London - 23 November 2022
This place is okay, the salary is still considerable, but the competition is too big, and there is no room for growth, if you just want to find a normal job, this place can choose.

Poor management & toxic environment
Stylist (Current Employee) - West London - 14 November 2022
Management is inexperienced and has a hidden agenda to be outright honest. That being to sabotage honest working people to reserve a place for their friends to work. I've witnessed it. The environment is incredibly toxic.

Okay
Administrator (Current Employee) - London, Greater London - 7 November 2022
Okay company to work for, pays your bills but not much more, staff turnover is high and it is difficult to form meaningful connections with colleagues which would contribute to higher performance.

(Toxic) do not apply!
Beauty Consultant (Former Employee) - Birmingham City Centre, West Midlands - 7 November 2022
Going to start of with DO NOT APPLY or ever dream to work there!!! VERY stressful environment to work at. It’s not so good for mental health, Toxic and lack of support seriously feels like years to get a response back for your needs, not treated fairly especially for agency workers! Dead peak times they still expect you to promote their brand and sell even though when there’s NO people around. When you start to stand around that times they still make a big fuss for not doing the above which is bizarre. Literally never appreciate little things of what you do which is a DISGRACE!!! Also they be watching you which going to make anyone feel very UNCOMFORTABLE!!! Sadly there are some disgusting workers who does their dirty business and back chat, the fact that they be leaving their own counters and leave one person to cover 3 or 4 counters at the same time but never get caught its just absolutely devastating, then when it’s your turn it’s bes a chaos which ain’t fair. Hope karma gets those ones!
Pros
None!
Cons
Poor management, sudden shifts starts to appear and never get told the day before

Different work positions
Shop Floor Assistant (Former Employee) - London - 25 October 2022
As this was an agency, it was fun to work in different sectors in Selfridges. However, the pay was no where near as good enough. At times I was in charge of the entire shop floor myself but was not getting paid a decent amount for this.
Pros
Frequent change of environment
Cons
Pay

Sales Associate (Former Employee) - London,uk - 30 September 2022
Fun atmosphere, average compensation. Great entry level job for someone interested in fashion, design, beauty etc. The company does a good job of staying ahead in the retail industry
