Good and secure place to work
Gas Engineer (Former Employee) - Melksham, Wiltshire - 12 October 2021
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedSelwood is a good place to work, specially within the gas team. Good Supervisor and manager. I have enjoyed the 3 years working for them but it was about time for me to move on and develop my skills else where as I felt that I was getting boxed up and unable to move around between install, service and response work. Overall a good employer.
Pros
Local work around Wiltshire and Somerset
Cons
Call out work on top of normal working day hours, vans not able to be used for school runs or pick ups.

Undervalued, underpaid and unappreciated
Mobile fitter (Former Employee) - Great Yarmouth, Norfolk - 16 October 2021
Selwood as a whole is ran by too many chiefs not enough Indians. They just see staff as disposable. They do not care on staff welfare and will work you into the ground for peanuts. Worth avoiding. Great Yarmouth particularly has a poor management who will not care about staff, will not treat staff equally (one rule for one and one for another), will always put the company before your own life.
Pros
Company van
Cons
Poor pay, no care, overworked, undervalued, seen as disposible. On call too often, no equality, poor management.

Not the best place to work.
Electrician (Former Employee) - Chandlers Ford, Hampshire - 15 September 2021
Not the best place to work. All works installed in the Sewage system. Mainly reactive works, poorly organised and excessively long hours. Even planed works are poorly organised. On call every other or third week. Equipment is of poor quality and often arrives broken! Pressured to work very long hours, seven days a week. Expected to work anywhere in the UK at no notice! Management decisions depend on which way the wind is blowing.. Health and safety is when it suits!
Pros
Pay (if working long hours)
Cons
Very long hours. Large geographical area, no organisation.

LGV plant driver (Former Employee) - Bournemouth - 1 July 2021
Working at selwoods was a pleasure. It was great to meet customers on site and form relationships which helped the whole process Sometimes you could be given the wrong info but it was soon rectified with a few calls Pace of work had different speeds. Deliveries in the morning followed by collections usually Sometimes you get the long trips inter depot Overtime minimal but what a great work/ life balance
Pros
Good people to work with
Cons
Could of been more money

Installation operative
Installation Operative (Former Employee) - Crayford, Kent - 19 May 2021
Great company good people working there and money to be made just need a strong stomach due to some of jobs but apart from that great company and managers seem good fun a lot of banter around that place the crayford supervisor is also a top bloke will go out of his way to help you with everything and will get stuck in with the dirty work. Defo would recommend giving the company a go just have a strong stomach and you’ll be sweet as a nut
Pros
Great people to work with management seem good fun
Cons
Can be long hours and call outs but your paid well

Mixed feelings
Fitter (Current Employee) - England - 1 September 2020
Many mixed feelings about selwood. They have a tendancy to employ lazy supervisors/managers that eould rather stand around all day and delegate all the workload.
Pros
Hours are good
Cons
You think they care. But they dont

Great staff but let down by some Directors and chief exec
Manager (Former Employee) - Trowbridge, Wiltshire - 27 March 2020
Unfortunately hard work and dedication isn't recognised , if your face doesn't fit then you are wasting your time here
The staff members are great but let down by the attitude of some Directors and CEO who just wants yes men/women
Real shame as could be a great place if attitudes change in senior management

Good place to work the yard staff was one of the best I have worked with.
Installation Operative and Yards Person (Former Employee) - Avonmouth, Bristol - 9 March 2020
Not a bad place to work to be honest just poor management which is the reason I'm not there anymore.
Typical day at Selwood was unloading or loading any lorries that needed it first thing in the morning, then once the lorries were loaded and out of the Yard the next job would start which was doing damage check form for any pumps or hoses that have come back from customer use, the forms would then be taken into the office for the sales team will look into weather or not the customer needs billing for any damage. I would then go back out and move the pumps that have come back and been checked into the workshop for the mechanics to do there service checks on the engine and do there damage checks too. Then I would move all the hoses that have come back over to the wash bay which I will then wash them and put them back into stock in the size related stillage ready for the next hire. I think that just about covers the Yard duties.
Selwood pumps also had a 3.5t vehicle which pretty much everyday I was required to do deliveries and collections which can also sometimes be a all day thing depending where the delivery or collection is in the country which could also result me taking the van home either the night before to go straight to the collection or delivery or take it home after to save the company overtime costs for me. That is the delivery and collection side covered.
Selwood pumps also have a installation side too which I had to have a lot of training courses before I could take part in any of it. The installation involved setting up pumps and hoses on site for customers -

Manager is a lier
HGV plant low loader driver (Former Employee) - Sittingbourne - 11 January 2020
Rubbish money no respect at all for stuff even when they have more knowledge about the job than the management and the manager at the sittingbourne depot is a compulsive liar he cannot be trusted like being at school with all the back stabbing avoid this place at all costs.
They also deduct an hour a day for a break but God forbid you say you won't work through it. You will then be on punishment patrol and your names must until they find someone else to moan at. This place cannot keep drivers you have been warned.

Management bullying and constantly on your back. Nothing is ever good enough and no support. Nobody stays and some folk leave after a week of working there.

Dead end job
General dogsbody/Jack of all trades/Gofer (Former Employee) - Stafford - 15 July 2019
Probably the worst hire company I’ve ever worked for. Expect to work long hours and be on 24 hour callout to site within two hours notice due to contractual obligations. Expect to work without support or supervision and do several roles. Expect to work without regular breaks. Expect to work with raw untreated sewage as sewage pumps are a large part of the business. Expect to be paid lower than the market average salary compared to the amount of hours you’ll be expected to put in. Don’t rely on any promised bonus to top up your pay. Expect to dedicate your life to the company as you’ll have little time for a life of your own. If you can stand the daily smell and sight of raw untreated sewage and regular bouts of gastrointestinal illness then it’s the job for you.
Pros
Free tea/coffee if any available
Cons
Long hours, low pay, poor working conditions. Poor support/management, dirty/smelly. No appreciation.

Unsupportive management
Customer Service (Former Employee) - Trowbridge, Wiltshire - 11 January 2019
left Selwood and can say it’s the best thing I have ever done. Managers is the team I left only care about the well being of certain individuals and if you are not in that group say good bye to your sanity. You are under appreciated and over worked, also say good bye to confidentiality when you disclose any personal information as they thrive off of gossip at other people’s expense. Honestly avoid at all costs. Mostly lazy team members and the ones who are hard working loose all work ethic after a few months and become stressed and exhausted. Even management slag each other off in front of the team. What a joke. Also be mindful of reading the job description and asking for details at interview as the job was nothing like described
Pros
Holiday, duvet days
Cons
People/ management
