If you like your weekend then highly don't recommend this job, coaches are decent but still have there issues. Drivers always willing to help and makes a nice change not having to worry about holiday blocks.

Ok

Keep your head down, do your job properly and it's a great job. National express is great pay but can be long hours. Really can't complain about the job.

Worked for Selwyns for 12 months from 18/08/22 to 25/08/23.

Worked on all aspects of the work at Selwyns Manchester. Found the Managers, Supervisors, Garage Staff, Other Drivers, the most upbeat Guys/Girls, I’ve worked with on PSV since 1994. My personal, private, life overtook my commitment to work and I always found I had the help and backing from Selwyns as much as anyone could. In the target audience, I found Selwyns to be a good leader in the business, although be it not my personal gripe, I found the equipment in need of updating. I feel they will succeed in a very crowded financial environment, and would gladly return if asked, and needed, in the future.

Pros

Very fair & helpful supervision.

Cons

Equipment needs upgrading.

Your review is a very unfair representation of our Company which we can only assume you have written to try and cause us issues. This business has been operating for nearly 55 years. Our health and safety is audited quarterly so your comment is absolutely untrue.

No organisation skills

Started off on National Express, which was ok, although it’s so easy to get knocked off the network, all you need to do is blink. Now doing airside picking up aircrews which I thought would be better. Walked out of the place 4 times so far. Honestly don’t why I keep coming back. The management have no organisation skills or any people skills for that matter. On top of that although I liked doing long hours they now take advantage and just assume you still will. Put my notice in for the 5th time today.

Pros

None

Cons

Long Hours

As you are aware, National Express are very safety focussed and if a driver does not achieve those safety standards it can result in removal from the National Express network. That said, to have been removed something serious must have happened. As you have stated we found you alternative work. We are sorry that you felt that the operational team did not have the appropriate people skills.

Bad management

Bad management pull you for the most stupid things. All they car about is filling the season could t cards who the sting in the process. Have not care for employees. Will change shifts last minute without telling you being on the busses is alot easier the time you finish to the time you start the next day is a absolute joke you can finish at 1pm then start the next morning at 10.05 barely going over the 9 hours legal rest required out the don’t take into fact you have to drive home they have a bath then you time you get to go asleep you may only get 5 hours sleep I would avoid at all costs

Pros

Good pay

Cons

More stress than it’s worth

Need to be fully flexible

You need to fully flexible to work here. The shifts are long and can be changed at very short notice sometimes on the day of your shift. If your on the spare rota you won’t know if your coming or going so don’t bother making plans outside of work. It’s a single persons job really but if your not bothered about putting in the hours it’s good pay. There used to be good moral but that’s completely gone under the current management. You will also be rang on your days off to come into work to cover. Majority of the time your day is sat on the motorway there are worse company’s to work for but you need to be really easy going and fully flexible without a family really.

Good

Staff are friendly, management is a bit disorganised but feel like that's just typical no matter what company you work for these days, long hours but good pay

Pros

Money

Cons

Long hours

Avoid.

Poor management. Supervisors need training and need to learn to be honest and open and don't lie or disrespect other drivers. No respect from some drivers at all towards me and some drivers didn't get on with each other which isn't good at all. I was bullied and nothing was done about it. The pay is decent, I personally liked the coaches and I enjoyed the job but how I was treated was very unfair. Don't get me wrong I wasn't perfect I did make a few mistakes. Very strict and unfair and then they wonder why they are short of drivers. Most of the situations were poorly handled. Hopefully things change here and it becomes better good luck but this is my honest opinion of the company and work place.

Pros

Decent pay. Nice uniform.

Cons

9-12 hour duties. (Didn't bother me tho)

Having read your comment, we are assuming that you were a National Express driver. National Express are extremely safety and customer focussed and if a driver does not achieve their standards then they are either placed on an action plan or sometimes are removed from the network. The Company is growing and we are paying highly competitive rates. We are sorry that you felt the Supervisors are unskilled. Most of them have been drivers themselves so fully understand the challenges faced by drivers. They are however given full training.

Not same anymore, changed.

Don't expect to have a social life if you want to work here because they can change your duties in a flash so if you've arranged something with the family after you've finished or special event the day after on your day off, then it buggers it all up & you fall foul of your family who has a go at you for working when you know it's not your fault. Very long days if you include travelling there & back home, then get a shower/bath, then have tea & before you know it, it's time for bed cos you're up in 6 hours to do it all over again. Suitable for someone who hasn't got a family or in a relationship, so you can work when you want without upsetting the family, kids or partner. Get a job on the local buses, it's more pay & you know exactly what time you'll finish & what days off you will get.

Pros

Good coaches to drive

Cons

Long hours, days etc. Being treated like dog c.r.a.p if you refuse to change your duty or work on day off.

Great teamwork

Friendly people really helpful and supportive.Between night shifts and day shifts not any different rates The hourly rate is the same all the time during the year

Bad atmosphere

The money is good but If you like a weekend off I would advise you to look elsewhere your duties change daily .Management change your work at short notice with little or no regard for your social or family life, some of the drivers will refuse to do certain routes and get accommodated with this which means they take you off your work and give it to them

Cons

Long hours, pay needs to match other depos

Great place to work, laid back

Great place to work, management understands work/home life balance. Company is owned again by Selwyn Jones which makes employment more personable. Look after their drivers

Pros

Great workforce Good hours Good earning potential Family atmosphere

Cons

Long hours

Just give it a miss.

Not the worst place to work for, but management expects you to just drop your life to work all the time,Don’t expect favour off drivers to swap shifts or cover you, everyone is all for themselves, Just work your contracted hours and don’t do overtime an you’ll be fine.

Pros

Long hours mean good take home

Cons

No work life balance, all work no life.

Don’t bother

Poor management structure, takes shortcuts on safety hides issues. Ignores unions does not care about its workforce unless you’re doing them many favours!

Pros

None

Cons

Long hours poor pay and it’s always your fault

Very unprofessional company

Management treat employees with contempt. Payroll regularly miss hours off. Holiday pay not paid. This is a really shoddy company I would avoid it at all costs, this applies to customers and potential employees.

Pros

Friendly team

Cons

Being spoken down to, short notice rota changes

Don’t do it

Poor management, indecisive, untrustworthy, they are so lucky to still be trading. The corporate buy back happened before covid, great they got rid of the french company, but lost a lot of good drivers through ill will.Used to be a good place.

Pros

None

Cons

Long hours little gratitude
