Supportive relaxed work place.

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
I mostly did cleaning there are boxes of gloves so your hands should stay clean and you can change your gloves if you have a problem with them. The management is accessible and you can simply knock on the door or talk to them when you run into them. I always had plenty of help if I needed support or help. It was busy and should become busy again. It can be a bit humid so you have to drink plenty of liquid.

Pros

Plenty of help if you need it, approchablemanagment, free gym membership and gym on site.

Awful place

Shocking culture where you are just treated as a number. Terrible rates of pay. Ivory tower management culture. Coercion and pressure applied from senior management to sweep things under the carpet when legitimate issues are raised. No thought for the well-being of staff, just worked like dogs which leads to frankly shocking levels of staff turnover. Profit the only thing that matters.

Pros

None

Cons

Poor rates of pay

Depressing place to work

Don't bother applying for a job here unless you enjoy being told how to do your job by someone who couldn't do it themselves. The wages are well below the going rate as well. All in all, not a good place to work

Pros

Cant think of any

Cons

Poor wages, Arrogant bosses

Unqualified and unskilled managers

I only worked for Serco for 6 months but in my experience as it took over from another organisation,. on thing I was very aware of was the favouritism, partiality and the lack of trained middle/line managers that were employed there. I have worked in management previously but I never saw such an organisation ignore countless complaints of mismanagement from the unskilled line/middle managers, and Serco choose to side with these deviants instead of being open and honest about the inability of their line managers and staff. Therefoer there is a culture of 'fear' ie don't upset the line /middle managers as they are vindictive and would treat you bad and give you 'bad runs'' or no rums at all ie no over time. However if you're liked/favoured by line/middle managers you get the 'best trips' and always get the Fridays and Monday you want off at the expense of other people not being allowed to have the time off, as requested. This is an 'open secret' every body knows who are the 'favourites' and its ovbious who isn't liked. finally the best part of the job is when you have a fun partner which makes the long hours worth it and the hardest part of the job is when line/middle managers treat you poorly and all the other staff ignore it coz thy don't want to get involved as they are only covering their own backs and jobs in this pandemic climate. And middle/line manager count on their silence and lack of back-bone to ensure their reign of terror continues as they divide and conquer

Pros

Some honest, hard working staff

Cons

Long hours, favouritism, no voice for the van drivers and escorts

Productive and fun workplace

Within 6 months I went from an operative to a Deputy Site Manager but then again this is an unusual environment as we are building up a successful business to destroy the Covid-19 Response Teams .....why? Because we are the Deputy Managers in charge of the local testing sites as we help to fight the war on the covid-19 virus and our end goal will be the success of not being required anymore. We are representing the government and the NHS and doing our bit and it feels great to be helping! The job role is busy and there has been a lot to take in and learn but I have done it and loving it. Always learning. I’m responsible for the whole site for my team when we are on duty, staff, security, infection control, generators and plant equipment, reporting everything from hours to checking the diesel! Everything is computer led and when like me the last time I was in an office was 30 years ago, there has been a sharp learning curve but the support from other colleagues and management has been superb. To go from being part of a team of 10 to being in charge of a site with upwards of 18 people is mind blowing. I am loving every day and every opportunity that comes my way. I am very grateful for all the support and the opportunities I have been presented with and I will look at continuing to work for Serco after Covid-19. Any job that I think I can do or am qualified for as my experiences so far have given me the confidence to challenge myself. Great company to work for!

Pros

Supportive management, respect in the workplace, zero tolerance to abusive/discriminative behaviours

Cons

NONE! Working a 4 on/off rota gives a perfect work life balance

The training is 6 weeks serco pay for hotel and Breakfast, dinner with travel expenses. You meet some interesting people on the Job and can make a difference.Problems is you have a start time but No finish time.your contract is 35/40 hours a week forget that as you are doing 13-14 hour days and it’s ridiculous. And they have No staff at sittingbourne they are 20 staff short.Plus they take £200 a month of you for paid lunch break when you actually don’t get a lunch break. You will be tired and knackered It’s not what it completely says on the tin about the job.

Pros

Meeting people

Cons

Money, 13-14 long hours, losing £200 a month on lunch

It’s lucky the staff are good people.

Pay is horrendous. Work life balance is none existent. Company doesn’t care about employees and doesn’t listen to them. Upper management are nowhere to be seen. You’re just a number to this company, one that’s disposable.

Pros

Great on the ground team

Cons

Long hours, poor pay, ignorant to employee needs.

Avoid at all costs

Wow where to start no finish time can easily do 60 hrs a week that your told is your maximum until it suits then your told you can go over them. No work life balance very lucky if you get a break in your working day then you get reprimanded for not taking your break ?? Dealing with a control centre that doesn't control and has no idea of the logistics of the area. Serco seem to have no care for the welfare of threre staff

Pros

Free Tea and coffee

Cons

Long hours not appreciated by the company

The best security job around

Every day is different, department is more professional then ever under the current management, fair opportunities to the people who work hard to earn it, few stubborn stuck in the muds holding the department from being even better, If your looking for a career in security this is the best job around and the top of security jobs in the northeast

Pros

Management

Cons

Great teams, enjoyable work

Friendly team, good work ethics, productive workplace. I've enjoyed working with them. Great communicators, regular hours, interesting campaigns. Shame I only had a temporary contract, I would have enjoyed new challenges with the same employer

They have a blame culture and expect you to complete work in your own time unpaid. Impossible targets, no praise and any excuse to dock wages which are the minimum they can pay

Dont work there

The management are really bad, very unprofessional and lack of experience and people management skills. The staff are lazy as well as the manager and deputy. Very much if your face fits, people forget where they come from, and have very short memories. You get stabbed in the back, and people talk behind your back and have not got the ground to speak to you face to face.

Cons

Everything

Avoid

One word.. Awful. No support and at times very stressful you are just a number. Most of the the management are not good and don't care. Never enough staff as people leave all the time. Starting pay is poor considering what you have to do. Would give Serco a wide berth try HMP if you really want to be a Prison officer as they may not be much better but at least you'll get paid more !!!

None

Cons

Long hours, stressful, no support

Zero work life balance ….. Avoid

Often working 14 hours plus per day. Up at 4.30 and home at anything up to 22.00. You have absolutely no idea on when you finish. But 6.15 starts. I suffered immense fatigue with the very long days and management never cared. All they are worried about is hitting targets.Management have their favourites, the rest of us are used and given the poor work. You can’t take your mobile to work, or even use your own Sat Nav.You’re teamed up with someone different each day, and you’re given written warnings when your partner messes up (cause a lot of PCO’s shouldn’t be doing this job) even if you’ve got no control on the mistakes your partner makes.Trust me there is NO work/life balance. Because of the hours, your days off are spent recovering and sleeping. Please avoid this company, and a PCO job, unless you’re desperate, or like to be used.

Pros

A few nice fellow PCO’s

Cons

Everything…. Hours, management, being used
