Okay workplace.

Indeed featured review

Expected to work extremely long hours with no benefits. Management do not provide support, felt very overworked and no flexibility. Working with the team helps get you through it.

Well-Managed and Understanding

The team at Ashfield House are very supportive and a vast majority of the residents at the home were lovely. A typical day consisted of helping residents get ready for breakfast, proving breakfast, help them with lunch, providing two rounds of tea, logging reports about residents and providing additional support needs. The job didn't work out for me personally, through no fault of anyone there, but management were easy to talk to and understanding of the situation.

Family clique in management

Mix of residents has changed since Covid, residential is no longer elderly frail who need some assistance to a group of residents that require a higher degree of help. Level of staffing does not meet the everyday requirements of the residents. Staff are anxious about not meeting expectations. Most of the supervisory team are related to each other, opinions are very biased.

Pros

Love the residents and most of my co-workers.

Cons

Work day very long and busy, 30 minute break does not sufffice, new record keeping method very tedious, There is very little interest in the emotional well being of employees, Staff are reprimanded in earshot of the residents.

Excellent friendly with good management

I absolutely love working here, the staff and are so friendly, the Residents are always happy. The best place I have worked in a long time.Manager runs an open door policy, and is always happy to help with work or personal issues, very understanding and flexible.

A good job absolutely ruined by managing

I really enjoyed working in the kitchen as kitchen assistant/bank cook but it was completely ruined by the manager, they should look to why so many people have left in the time of the current manager , I may sound bitter but I have reason to. The staff were great to work with and the home itself is a lovely little home and the residents are lovely but unfortunately the experience was completely ruined by the manager and the company really needs to look into why they have had a large turnover of staff since the current manager has been there

Pros

Great little home with great staff

Cons

Bad management

Productive workplace

Team leaders are expected to:Write care plans from scratchPre-assess and assess residentsUse up to 3 different care softwaresCount hundreds of medsAttend meetingsTake all the responsibility possible for a barely "living wage"

Glad that's over

Some great staff but that's about it. Would not recommend. Too much to do, working short on lots of shifts. Complexity of patients does not match up with skills of care staff, but bums on beds eh?

Horrendous

It’s not a place I would advice my nearest and dearest to work. It will destroy you. My personal experience in the home where I worked was horrible, I’m sure some of the other homes are better but I reserve judgement. Fortunately I have a good family and supportive group of friends who all persuaded me to leave and go and enjoy life.

Pros

The residents and their families

Cons

Horrendous levels of stress.

Supportive and friendly atmosphere

Shifts can be busy at times. Great colleagues and approachable management. Frequent change in service users makes the work interesting. Wish there was flexibility in requesting in annual leave. This can be Draconian and not taking individual circumstances into account.

Cons

Busy and undervalued

I worked for a very short period for Shaw Healthcare. During that time there was no support, no issues were addressed by management and staff levels were low. After 2 mo the in post, they announced closure of the home and staff redundancy, therefore I left to find another job

Pros

Lunch on duty

Cons

Long hours, no support

Awfully run company

Since our previous manager left there has been no support from shaw or their HR team, it’s ran very poorly and the home in not a nice place to work, staff are expected to work non stop and pick up shifts which we wouldn’t have to cover if there was an actual push to recruit carers, sadly nobody wants to work here as the pay is so low, shaw don’t seem to care about anything other than making money. I was the 9th staff member to leave shaw recently and I’m sure more will follow, and it is a horrible environment to work in and sadly it reflects badly on the “service users” who are paying such high costs to be there

Productive and fun workplace

The work environment was relaxed. Staffs I worked with were friendly and supportive and the manager was very lovely. We were provided good training on moving and handling, COSHH, health and safety, safe food preparation and so many other useful training which I still find useful to this day in my own personal life. I was able to help make a little difference in the lives of elderly residents and provide them with the care they needed.
