Busy and undervalued

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
I worked for a very short period for Shaw Healthcare. During that time there was no support, no issues were addressed by management and staff levels were low. After 2 mo the in post, they announced closure of the home and staff redundancy, therefore I left to find another job

Pros

Lunch on duty

Cons

Long hours, no support

Awfully run company

Since our previous manager left there has been no support from shaw or their HR team, it’s ran very poorly and the home in not a nice place to work, staff are expected to work non stop and pick up shifts which we wouldn’t have to cover if there was an actual push to recruit carers, sadly nobody wants to work here as the pay is so low, shaw don’t seem to care about anything other than making money. I was the 9th staff member to leave shaw recently and I’m sure more will follow, and it is a horrible environment to work in and sadly it reflects badly on the “service users” who are paying such high costs to be there

Productive and fun workplace

The work environment was relaxed. Staffs I worked with were friendly and supportive and the manager was very lovely. We were provided good training on moving and handling, COSHH, health and safety, safe food preparation and so many other useful training which I still find useful to this day in my own personal life. I was able to help make a little difference in the lives of elderly residents and provide them with the care they needed.

I don't recommend to my worst enemy.

I worked as a domestic assistant for deerswood Lodge for 3 years throughout pandemic. Very backstabby and full of rumours too many bully's and conspiracy theory's. Too much favorism from managment. If your face fits you could get away with soo much and treaten like royalty. Managment dating staff wich is unprofessional in my opinion. My stress levels hit the roof wich made me make the ultimate choice to walk away. I am now employed with another company and happy once more.

Caring kind lovely place to work

I absolutely love my job working for shaw at Woodhouse. It is such a friendly caring environment and we really do make a difference for the people we all support making sure we always put the service users first and we also do a lot of fun activities as well as in house. The service users are a pleasure to work with and also The staff team we got are all amazing and we all work together as a team. Mangers are understanding and are always willing to help. I have worked here nearly 15 years and also have 3 chilldren and the hours I do are flexiable and work for my self and the company.

Positive place to work

A day working in our home is busy although very rewarding. If you thrive from job satisfaction then a job with us is for you.All staff are approachable and we all work as a team. Team work is paramount within the care setting. Management and the directors are all very supportive. At Shaw we thrive to get the best out of every employee and always encourage progression.

Very calm happy environment

I have worked here for a year and a half, and can honestly say it is the best company I have worked for to date. The support is at every level, and nothing is to much trouble. The fact it is Employee owned with bonuses every few months is absolutely great, and uplifts all the staff here. Then the surprise bonus to help with cost of living raises was a very welcomed surprise. I would recommend working here to friends and family, which I have done since being here. It is such a calm environment to work in and a homely feel, with everyone working together as a team. Then you have the days out with the Residents which they love. I can’t thank Shaw enough for all the opportunities they give us, and again for the support. Fantastic

Pros

Career progression

Fun work place

I have worked for shaw healthcare for nearly 10 years now, I love to fulfil each service users needs and to help them to make their own decisions from choosing clothes to where they might like to go eg, shopping, zoo, out for food I have been on MAT leave twice and each time I have returned the manager has helped me work out hours to suit me. I really recommend working for shaw healthcare

Excellent company to work

Shaw is a good company to work for, and they will allow you to gain experience and qualifications within working for the company. The pay could do with being better for some things we deal with and there could be an incentive to draw in staff to work over time such as advanced wages for over time etc. Whilst working for Shaw i have gained loads of knowledge and experience. I have gained my level 2 NVQ in health and social care and am currently working on my Level 3, there is availability to go onto work on my level 4 once my level 3 has been completed. Shaw provide all kinds of opportunities and they try their hardest to provide a good and well paid environment for the employees. This could be reviewed in the future to help out with all increases within day to day life.

Pros

Many Knowledge gaining opportunities

Cons

Long Hours, could have incentive pay

Great place to work

Here at Cartref Dyfi the home manager is welcoming and very supportive. The team leaders offer guidance and are very approachable. The support workers all work as a team. Domestic staff and kitchen staff are very thorough in their work - the food is always to a great standard. The rota is always done in advance, which is great!

Pros

Team work

Cons

Was alright

Was with them for 8 months. Whilst the pay was fairly decent and there was plenty of opportunities to pick up over time, there was no time to advance yourself further as they never progressed with further training for their staff no matter what requests were made. There was also a change over of management twice in those 8 months. I guess its a good stepping stone if you've never done care before.
