Jobs at Shell
Decent peers
Sales Advisor (Former Employee) - Ashington - 21 November 2023
Liked the autonomy of working alone. I worked night shift and the pace of work was decent The pay however was pretty bad to say the least Hardest part was cleaning the machines Trying to stay warm, and trying to not be bored out of your wits What I learned is there are some seriously greedy owners out there who have no idea you used to get some of the towns finest visiting, so an ability to respect someone from wherever they have came from and for whatever they do, they are are a soul first and foremost, so snobs need not apply as you would be far too offended by the brutal truth of real living, which for some reason home and house mags don’t seem to cover! Most enjoyable part? Meeting people who you would never have ever met nor given the time of day with in the normal world, you will have bonds and be on first name terms with The desperate young dads who are so poor and hungry, they will wait around till you do the reductions, just so they can feed and make happy their beloved wife and children You will also get to know well, the local scratch card addicts, the alcohol addicts as well as all of the insomniacs The night workers totally oofed getting home at 5 am, as well as the 19 to 20 year olds, being dragged out by a firm still clearly getting acclimatised to real life, by being dragged back with the Poe hoodie to get in the oofing van now or they gonna be late! The late people, the darkest st and The most desperate.. and yet the most empathic and the riches in experience people who you could ever have the privelige to walk in your path.. yes these are the people.. these -
Pros

As an intern at Shell's London office, I had the privilege of gaining invaluable insights into the energy industry that have significantly shaped my professional journey. My time at Shell was nothing short of transformative, and I am thrilled to share my positive experience here. During my internship, I was exposed to a dynamic and inclusive work environment where creativity and innovation were not only encouraged but also celebrated. Flexible
Customer Service Advisor (Former Employee) - Kent - 13 October 2023
Flexible shifts and great customers but management is not the greatest. Not many benefits either considering it’s a big company. Understaffed often.

Petrol Station Manager (Former Employee) - Gloucestershire - 11 October 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? There are non other than it being a job you get paid for What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Your expected to get chilled delivery's and hot food out in allotted time, ie chilled put away within a certain time frame, but serve customers at the same time, if chilled comes in at busy periods you obviously have to deal with chilled food but customers don't realise this and tend to shout at you because they think you should be serving on the till to get the que down, very stressful What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Company doesn't give any discounts To be honest she'll are blood suckers don't value there staff just want to make money What is a typical day like for you at the company? Rush from start to finish, your watched all the time to make sure your doing everything, offer deals, upsell, offer loyalty cards, stock up, baking, it's like spinning plates on sticks trying to make sure none of them drop

Lovely colleagues but a stressful job
Cashier/Customer Service Assistant (Former Employee) - Northumberland - 10 September 2023
Lone worker early starts and late finishes. Some lovely staff and customers but a lot to cope with during busy spells, working with equipment that regularly fails. Regular staff training and great manager.

Shift typically started slowly then picked up during the weekend, definitely not time to clock-watch!
Cashier (Former Employee) - Ipswich, Suffolk - 27 August 2023
You have to get there 15 minutes early to check the safe, your float (till) and fridge/freezer temps. You may have to fill up the cigs/shop. Yeah it's only a cashier job, but I feel like if you like cars, then the job ain't too bad.

Excellent
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - London, Greater London - 7 August 2023
I've noticed quote a lot of negative feedback about Shell , what really surprises me are the expectations from a Global Corporation by its employees past and present.

Not advisable
Customer Service Assistant (Current Employee) - Darlington, Durham - 7 August 2023
Over 2 years working as a cashier at Shell, I would say it is a very poor working environment. Very cliquey and favorable shifts are given out according to manager's discretion. No chance whatsoever of job progression, regardless of performance. Nightshifts are given the lion's share of the workload and are not paid at a higher rate, despite the unsociable hours impacting on their personal lives. Couldn't even provide me with a suitable uniform- had to source and buy my own. Multiple 16 hour shifts worked with no break. Expected to come to work at a moments notice. The list goes on.
