part time only

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
It’s a good job if your looking for part time work or to pick up extra money/shifts over the weekend but it isn’t possible for full time/main job. Some managers were nice and friendly but others treated their staff terribly. Pay was decent but there is a lot of travelling involved so you need your own means of transport. You have to pay a deposit for the uniform, which you only get back when you leave the company and return the full uniform undamaged (including wear and tear damage.) The shifts are usually outside in all weathers and environments so do your research before signing up to any shifts. You choose your own shifts but they are first come first served.

Pros

Outdoor uniform, fair pay.

Cons

Long hours, usually no breaks, most shifts are outdoors in all weathers.

Rubbish

I have recently been employed with showsec and the supervisors have nothing but cheek and attitude to give towards you and they then think it’s okay to start calling you names and that when that’s clearly what they are not meant to do

Pros

Don't waste your time

Firstly I must say you can only work for this establishment if you are single/no family, you can't take annual leave when you want, it has to be when your line manager wants, but if its busy forget about it... It's not possible. They'll force you to work new years eve, but when you need help on a Saturday on shortages there's no help. If you are area manager or above, it's okay, company will treat you good. Anything below your just a number. I've worked over 15 years (including as normal staff) for this company and was waste of my life. All fake smiles and bunch of back stabbing snakes.Operations managers are just glorified supervisors in this company, you can't make no decision on your own.

Pros

You'll get work festivals and some exclusive events

Cons

Staff walfare, no help from management, talk down when you need help.

They are a horrible place to work. I was under stress after completing several calls and meeting targets. I then called in sick due to work related problems and was dismissed the very next day.

Treat staff like numbers

There is no staff welfare, you work festivals etc, nearest food available is miles away, and toilets are miles away too, they just do not look after staff unless you are the type of person to brown nose management. Not enough work around.

Pros

Food bags thats when and if they can be bothered.

Cons

Treat staff like sheep.

Was okay

Worked with showsec for a while it was okay had plenty of shifts and good as a side job to earn extra money. Only issue is most shifts are 4 or 5 hours which is not enough plus don't get breaks and supervisers were okay most of them had attitude issues. If you call in sick before your shift control says have to call week before to cancel your shift which makes no sense. Can't predict when you sick or have to attend emergency situation.

Pros

Plenty of shifts

Cons

Low wages, no breaks, short shifts

Fast paced work

There is always something to do whether it be helping customers in or out of the venue or helping them find their seat location or checking exits and entrances are safe or making sure no fans etc try to get near the celebrity or football player always fast paced and energetic

Pros

Meeting stars, feeling happy when customers say what a great night thank you, they leave safely and you know you have done your job well.

Cons

Long time on your feet but keep moving you will be fine

Interesting and no job the same

The team is very up beat, however it’s high staff turnover due to useless students who don’t care about the job. Good variety of work and when your face is known to management, and they can trust you, you get the opportunity to work all the shifts you want be it Scotland, England Ireland or Wales!

Pros

Free concerts (well working concerts)

Cons

Sometimes very long shifts! I done 19 hours on one shift before

Truly awful..Management are amatuers

Typical day would include signing in at workplace, confused briefing and instructions from supervisor, no breaks and no one to support you.Truly awful. Lack of communication and teamwork, long hours in a stressful environment. Online training was a joke. An environment of "passing the buck" and not taking responsibility. A disaster like the Manchester Arena attack was always likely.

Pros

None.

Cons

Everything.

Love them!

I love ShowSec. I know allot of people are against zero hour contracts but for me as a uni student it was ideal as I could pick and choose my shifts as long as I did at least one a month. There have been various points over the years where I’ve had to have time off and they’ve been accommodating, helpful and understanding. It’s always a laugh and they always look after you

Pros

Decent pay, decent amount of hours.

Cons

Not always working with the same people

Worst Ever

Showsec were great when I started in 2011, but as the years got on they got worse and worse. Because you are a worker not a member of staff (even though you have to wear their uniform) you have no workers rights. So because of this they treat their staff like rubbish. At the end of the day you’re just a number. Management good in London but outside of they’re an absolute shambles. With Leicester being the worst, which is odd considering that’s where the head office is. Lots of staff are just jacket fillers who somehow managed to get a job here, let alone get an sia licence. If the founder of Showsec Mick Upton knew what they’ve turned into since his death he’d be turning in his grave.

Pros

None

Cons

Bad management and HR department. Don’t care what staff have to say, coz they can just get rid of them

Purposeful and Fun

This job is super fun as you meet different people each shifts and the work culture is amazing. Managers are easy to get along with and are always understanding and there to assist with any issues you would face at work.

Pros

Free Lunch Vouchers

Cons

Usual shifts are 8-15 hours long.
