Simply Business was your typical call center at first glance. Training was classroom based and suited to all learning styles and lasted about two weeks. I would say the training was extremely thorough. Simply Business had a great culture and work Ethic which made it a great environment to be in. Management moved around a lot, it was hard to build a relationship with a team leader because of this. Easier for individuals who can adapt to change. Always plenty of leads so it was never a dull day and GREAT BENEFITS!
The company projects itself as a beacon of opportunity, this could not be further from the truth. I have never been in an environment more cliquey than Simply Business, their facade is great, but the reality is an absolute pitfall. They are an organisation that will literally let you go (and tell you) because your face doesn't fit. Which is appalling. The management team through to lower/middle management are delusional and all in it for themselves, while protecting and advancing their friendship circle. If you don't particularly care about the job you do or security, this is probably a great place for you - Sell some insurance on the phone, make half decent money, get a free holiday, watch Netflix, get sacked. If you are planning on finding a company to forge your future, I would not recommend this one in the slightest.
Terrible management, no progresson
Great company to work for, very focussed on their people. In the early days as it is an FCA regulated company I found it a challenge with having to do things in a certain way/order. However once I was trained my confidence grew and I loved the challenge, and really enjoyed chasing up the customers to understand why they hadn't purchased the insurance, and turning this into a sale. I am very competitive, and this was actively encouraged at Simply.

travel, some days took in excess of 2 hrs to get there.
This is a great company to work for if you are a school leaver with no work experience/qualifications. They pay ok for a first job in a call centre and the atmosphere can be fun for the younger generation. It is supported by a great choice of company benefits like free gym, cinema, weekly fruit deliveries, free drinks, annual party trip abroad. This is a great place to come and make friends at work as the teams like to party hard. There are good progression opportunities for the 'right' people and they will invest in training/qualifications. The 'right' people are not always the best person for the job but those that have the right social network within the business. Under the facade of the best company to work for the culture is relatively corrupt and has a strong focus on personal gain rather than the best decisions for the business. The office politics are a minefield. Staff 'disappear' when their face no longer fits. The business changes its goals and cultural values on a regular a basis; this causes confusion throughout the business. There is a lot of fear within the business and the blame culture is draining on morale. There are some great members of staff working here trying to make improvements and a difference but they are working against the embedded culture that is unlikely to change. Lots of promises made by the senior management team i.e. a lifetime trip around the world, fly a member of staff into space etc, these do not materialise. Lengthy 'bribery' campaigns do start on the run up to awards such as best companies with a nod and a wink from management - more...

Company Culture, Poor Management, Office Politics
Started off as a great place to work then gradually changed. No clear focus or direction from senior management. It really is a 'if your face fits' type of place. There was a real blame culture and everyone seemed to battle with each other rather than work as a team. They also had several members of staff just suddenly disappear! There is also a great London/Northampton divide in terms of salary, treatment, perks, work/life balance etc. How on Earth they won Best Company is beyond me!
Free tea and coffee
Blame culture, bad atmosphere. No appreciation of staff below Senior Management
Simply Business is a great place to work, a diverse culture and people from all over the world. You are given the freedom to express yourself in the work you do and your personality. One of the most difficult things about working for Simply Business is that, like many organisations they fall in to the trap of trying to do too many things at once.
culture, management, people, exciting projects, trips abroad, free lunches
too many large projects

Jobs at Simply Business
At Simply Business work is prioritized by the leadership and management teams. That work is then placed into tracks which consist of a product owner, technical lead and a handful of developers either front or back-end depending on the tracks focus. We use a Kanban methodology to work through the backlog of prioritised work. Teams are given open say to voice concerns on projects and get work re-prioritised. The company makes an effort to remove the standard hierarchical setup of most companies meaning meetings often involve all those involved including junior developers up-to senior management. I have learned a lot about leading from the company and advanced an already strong Ruby repertoire thanks to some of the very talented members of the team. Other technologies I have been introduced to via the company include MongoDB and building scalable web applications and some of the architectural considerations needed when removing single points of failure. Personally the hardest part of the job is balancing time between prioritised work and personal development. The company, I should state, is clear that they believe developers should spend time developing their own skills even if it means spending less time on key projects. The best part of the job is certainly down to the individuals. The team is always very light hearted and welcoming. The open culture and friendly team make it an easy job to feel comfortable in.
