It's alright

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Very stressful work, micromanaged intensely in this role Management are great and so are the people but the work is difficult and it's not suitable for the long-term. Calls can be challenging especially given the current financial landscape, and Sky misguide customers about cancellations, leading go a lot of angry customers being funnelled through to the retentions department. Many departments transfer through their undesirable calls through to retentions department even if the customer did not even call regarding that.At the point now where I dread going in so now looking for something else

Pros

Cheap lunch and free lunch options, management are great and colleagues are friendly

Cons

Long hours, stressful work for the pay, sky are immoral when it comes to customer service

Customer Service Adviser

Awful company to work for, no advancement possible, given impossible targets to hit, advertised as a customer service role, but you're forced to try and sell products to customers on every call, and then threatened with disciplinary action daily for not hitting targets.

Very stressful and too many very high targets

No place i have ever worked has caused me so much stress. The call types are mostly not for the sales team yet expected to hit insane high targets that always increase. Poor bonus and incentive stucture wilth "coaching feedback" thats more like a stick to hit you with than help you. Avoid at all costs.

Messes with your mental health

You get your jobs sent you but it’s not always possible to get them all done due to traffic, job time extensions, the management don’t care about this and expect you to work over even when it’s not always possible.Sales is a huge part of the job now too, even in the current climate

Pros

Free sky

Cons

Long hours, stressed all the time

Honestly, one of the better "call centres" out there

Was there 6 months in all, over the Xmas periodYes there is pressure to hit target but it's soft sales, most folk are just calling cos their sky is too expensive and you can ide say 60%of the tike save them with a simply offer/reduction and 20% you may need to give upgrades to etc, it's not rocket science thoughDecent pay although staff turnover is really high, I suspect due to the breaks, your seconds are goldust. Okay for those that don't mind being tied to a desk/phone with little time in between calls.

Honest opinion

I did enjoy my time there but the issue I had was other managers using people from different teams to justify why they ain’t performing well… managers can be toxic or sometimes be nice to you… but and miss in my opinion. The benefits are good, overtime was great but as soon as you have a manager just having a go at you for stats but doesn’t come across the same to other staff in your team then make sure you note down every negative interaction and try to move teams… my mistake was thinking my manager had my back but in all honesty I was thrown under the bus a lot so my said manager could look good.Don’t get me wrong, there’s loads of good stuff too at the place such as free sky, discounted broadband, 50% off simo plans, decent coffee and food as well as Overtime usually being double pay or time and a half (after 37 hours)But the hindrance of mental health caused by the overwhelming stats, negative treatment from managers and the obvious favouritism just made it feel like you’re only there for the perks and money… barely any progression routes.I was there for 2 years (give or take) and it’s been 2 years since I’ve left. Take this however you feel like to.

The work was fine enough and the pay pretty good. I only worked for them for a month and then I had a job offer overseas I couldn't refuse.Nice crew and my manager was a good dude

Good work place

Good company overall. Some really good perks like subsided food, free tv and hybrid working. Progression can be hard to come by, depending on the role. Campus is amazing but location isn't great.

Fantastic job and company.

Fantastic job and company to work for. Day starts at home and your job route is all calculated for you, but you have scope to move things around if you think it would work better. Management are all encouraging and not too pushy with certain aspects. Sales are a big thing, which is understandable, though probably should be optional as some are naturally good at it, others not so. All in all, brilliant job and company to work for, a company that actually cares.

Pros

Company van, fuel card, digital devices. Lots of benefits including medical, dental etc.

Cons

Fully expected to upsell at every opportunity.

Good company

Benifits really good. Hard work at times. Most engineers good people and easy to get along with. Can make extra money making sales while on jobs. Bonus could be better and basic wage should be more for multi skilled engineers

Pros

Van available for private use. Free Sky TV

Cons

Wage could be better. Not much room for promotiom

good and bad

good pay if you've hit bonus over years , though i think the starting salary is far less these days? good benefits, spend most time working alone (which might not suit some) lots of travel but normal working shift hours.overtime available (not compulsory) if your lucky enough to get a decent Team lead/manager and your face fits can be a decent job. BUTwork life balance is questionable as shift patterns vary, you work every other wknd, (sat&sun) and booking holiday can be difficult, in recent years too much pressure to upsell sky products on service visits, unfortunately your competing against colleagues which causes a constant competition scenario, bonus pay is partly based on (NPS) and can cause issues and unfair results causing loss of bonus pay. lack of product training and technical support is non existent when products fail. Unfortunately lots of colleagues trying to climb company ladder so always have to watch your back .Current higher management seem to be on a different planet. Too many middle manager's aswell though i believe there trying to sieve out the bad eggs and bully's. Good Luck

Goodbye Finance

I started during lockdown and was impressed with how well the company handled the situation. However, as soon as the restrictions were lifted, going to the office became mandatory and everything changed for the worse! The office is noisy, cold and far out! Most managers have no clue what they are doing and only care about the numbers, the well-being of employees doesnt matter. Flexibility and work life balance is poor, if you ask if you can WFH you will be interrogated and treated like you just committed a crime! They conduct yearly people surveys and even though the scores are getting lower and lower, they continue to ignore peoples opinions and nothing ever changes. It seems that Comcast is playing a major role in this too, as other department seem to be affected by it just as much. The cost of living crisis doesn’t seem to matter either, salaries are not being increased. I’m glad I left and I won’t come back!

Pros

Free fruit, free Sky Q, lots of discounts

Cons

No flexibility, bad managers, bad culture

Horrific experience

Countess amounts of staff, both advisors and mangers go on the sick due to the stress and anxiety of working under the current leader within Newcastle. Many of the tenured staff have now left because it is not an enjoyable place of work. Hence why they’re always recruiting. After looking through some of the positive reviews on here, I felt I had to leave an honest review as it is clear to me that someone within the recruitment team is adding these to help boost the rating on the Newcastle site. Trust me, no one who works there would ever speak so positively about it.

A proper work family

I've had the pleasure to work for sky for 3yrs now and can honestly say I don't really have a bad word to say about them. The company has numerous things that make them a great company to be a part of listed in my Pros section. The only downsides I would say is it can become stressful but there's not many work places that don't and some managers, thankfully none of mine, can micromanage KPIs for others which I have witnessed which would personally frustrate me... But you can easily discuss this with your manager to stop it.

Pros

Great management, subsidised canteen, free fruit, free tea/coffee, lots of opportunities

Cons

Stressful at times, micromanagement

Mobile salesmen with Sky equipment job.

Sky seemed the dream job. Sold to me like a dream car! You get a van, tons of stock and then micromanaged. They look at NPS which shows you are good with customers and fix the issue. This is completely irrelevant to Sky, if its low its another excuse for a brown nose to winge at you whilst they sniffle up the ranks pulling employees down as they go.Now it is JUST sales. If you don't sell, bye, if you don't sell enough, pip then bye. If you sell loads chances are you are breaching FCA rules and have bad NPS scores. This company is a sales militarily base. KEEP OUT

Pros

Free sky

Cons

Poor management, poor wages

Poor experience

I found the recruitment process well coordinated and professional alongside the training very extensive unfortunately that is where the positive feedback ends. Once on the phones to start of with they are fairly supportive but this is short lived. The management employed by Sky stockport are very poor and unprofessional somewhat childish. The communication from management is none existent constantly referring to the fact they don’t have the latest training and “it has all changed since I was on the phone so there is nothing I can provide for you please take you’re one to one time for you’re self” and the permanent long standing members of staff are very vindictive with a sabotage indirect aggression approach to new members of staff. I worked at the company for over two years and decided to leave. I was told by management they do not provide references but the HR team will pick it up. I would definitely not recommend Sky to a friend or family member.

Pros

Good pension, company share save.

Cons

Poor working hours 11-9pm lack of communication poor management.

Management who don't know how to manage

The job was great and the team were wonderful bar one or two people who made life he-ll. When team members would bring this up to management we were advised that they were older than us, were stuck in there ways and coming into a team where everyone is younger them must be difficult for them, rather than addressing the issue which was a clear lack of respect for other staff. If someone did something that was perceived as mean by one member of staff you were brought down like a ton of bricks without being able to offer your side. This happened a number of times to lost of people who did nothing wrong because the managers motto was "perception is everything". But really it was only her perception that mattered

Good to start

Great job at the start but overall got worse. If your face fits you're pushed, if not you're stuck at the bottom. Awful managers, some senior managers great but others just shocking.
