Not worth your mental health

Worked there a few years, all they care about is targets! Broadband doesn’t count only tv! And be prepared for every call to be torn apart by a manager and told it’s not good enough!

Pros

prizes and draws

Cons

Bonus is not what it used to be and capped, targets always going up, nothings ever clear, will put you on a plan and make you feel like you have no job security

Pros

Free sky, loads of benefits, free tea/coffee

Cons

Long hours especially if don’t live close, short breaks, no where to have a “break” sat at desk having lunch

Secure employment

As long as you do your job properly then you will have a safe long term job but if your planning to progress be ready for a long and winding road and there is all the regular call centre type politics but also so so many amazing people too Be ready for a busy fast paced job and work to a high standard on long shifts (training does prepare you but it’s still difficult)

Pros

Free sky, control of earning your own bonus, buying holidays, on site canteen, city office, a lot of training

Cons

Long hours, difficult to progress

Liberal workplace

Don't mention your political affiliation unless you are liberal. It's ok to discuss BLM or antifa but if you disagree then your shunned. They take only part of what you say and use it against you. They seem to only hire snowflakes who are offended by everything. I will not sacrifice my pride and beliefs for their leftist liberal ideologies.

Pros

Equipment. Call centre. (New building)

Cons

Liberal management.

Some good some bad

I have worked at Sky for many years and it is getting worse and worse. Sky as a company is a wonderful place to work there is a great culture of friendship and inclusion overall however on an individual departmental managerial basis it is rubbish and people are treated dreadfully If you are not telling the management how wonderful they are then you have a bad attitude supposedlyThey talk about everyone being able to freely speak their minds and be themselves but it is purely a pr exercise It is such a shame because Sky is a great company but the low level management is not great at all

Pros

Lovely people great benefits

Cons

Surreptitious culture of oppression and brain washing

Wouldn't reccommend

It was a better place to work 4-5 years ago, since then the amount of targets have nearly doubled and bonus earning potential has been slashed by ÂŁ3-400 a month and is now capped around ÂŁ220

Pros

Some shift patterns are ok

Cons

compulsory weekend working, constantly adding additional targets, ongoing earning potential reductions

Incredible employer, difficult job.

I cannot fault Sky as an employer, especially through the pandemic. The management were unbelievably supportive of staff and gave flexible working options/were always ready to listen if you were having a hard time or needed extra support. I have an incredible team and manager and really enjoy the buzz of being in the office and the regular training/time we get off the phones. HOWEVER...the job itself is challenging to say the least. I consider myself to have a pretty thick skin but would definitely say my mental health has deteriorated rapidly since taking on this position. Customers seem to forget they're speaking to an actual human being at the end of the phone. This would be much more manageable if you weren't doing 10 hour shifts back to back. By the time you're home after work it's usually pushing 9.30pm (you'll come off your last call of the day at 8pm earliest if you're good at managing your calls) which is too late to eat and means you get no time to chill out/shake off the stress of the day before you're back in bed and then back in the office. Holiday days are good and easy to book, 4 days in 3 days off every week isn't terrible either, but I'd rather have shorter days over a Monday to Friday so I have time for a decent meal/nights sleep in the evenings. I would say you definitely have to be a certain kind of person to excel at/survive a job like this. Despite working in "cancellations/retentions" this is a SALES job. Even if you work in a technical department, EVERYONE is expected to be in selling mode at all times. Calls are regularly listened to by your manager -

Pros

Decent pay, great management/benefits

Cons

Long hours, very stressful, sales targets, pressure

Unrealistic and hypocritical

Your managers will tell you how we are all about helping the customers and how are must be ethical and do right by them. They will then threaten you during a pandemic that if you don't forcefully sell sim cards (while working in a primarily TV and Broadband department) that you will go on report and be subject to disciplinary action. Basically, we must compromise the 'values' we must show to coerce customers to buy things that they don't need. The management and customer experience leaders are full of hypocrites. We have to support customers but exploit them at the same time, and will otherwise lose our own jobs in the process. If you have a genuine desire to help customers this is not the job for you. Plus they will take away your bonus too.

Pros

Discounted lunch, bonus system

Cons

Unrealistic targets, hypocritical management

Awful

The worst job I've ever had. The training in academy though the hours were long were enjoyable. But then starting in my team, my manager was NEVER in - how someone can keep their job and be off this much astounds me. The newbies, we had no support and we are left to deal with raging and difficult customers. I was threatened by both customers and colleagues, it's not worth staying here to work. This company is a scam.

Pros

The campus

Cons

Everything else

Fun and Supportive Workplace

I have been working at Sky this the beginning of January this year and absolutely love it all the staff and managers are very helpful and supportive. If I could build a successful career within Sky I'd be very interested to do so as Call Centre Management has always been a career path of mine to follow.

Pros

Free Sky, Canteen, Good Salary & fantastic Management Team

Cons

None

Just don’t do it

Because to be honest it’s more about selling and being chained to your desk then trying to help customers, it’s all good and well you get free sky and your benefits but the stress and pressure they put on you, for the pennies you get for sales is just not worth it, management are more concerned about getting them self liked more than helping them teams it’s not for me and I have worked in many sales fast paced jobs and it’s sad to say but this is close to the bottom of the list of places I have worked, and it’s pretty much because I was sold the dream. Also people say “it’s amazing you work 3 days and then you get 3 days off” you start at 8:30am 8pm by time you have finished and get home it’s straight to bed because you got to be up early to get back in and god help you if you are late disciplinary and no bonus for you so you work for less, multiple people I work with before I started to notice this have said they suffer with anxiety on a daily basis the job just gets them down it’s not great to be honest. In the introduction they try and highlight all the good points of the job which basically to save you hours of dragged out videos, you get free sky and they have a benefit scheme where you can pay £16 a month for free dental oh and you can get up to 10% of some shops

Pros

Free sky tv, discounted wifi

Cons

Extremely long hours, depressing, unneeded pressure, rude hierarchy, no life outside of work, after 2 -3 weeks after training you will want to look for new jobs

Sales First Customer Second

I applied for a customer service role that didn't state anything about sales which i thought was great until you get onto the 3rd week of training and then onto the floor where they start pushing you for sales and if you don't make any DESPITE it not being in the job advertisement then they start to question you. They don't care that people are out of work due to covid as there main target is to upsell everyone regardless. If you need time off for family then think twice as you have to go through full interrogation as to why. If you have a child and your partner works and you cant get any family round (even with lockdown) they question you and why your partner cant come out of work and make you feel bad. Caused me alot of stress and got me to the point where i dont even want to attend

Pros

Free TV

Cons

Stressful, No Care from management, Sales even when not listed in advert

Fine

Big office turnover. Mixed managing styles throughout building Can be quite a catty atmosphere Some nice people there Worst part of the job is the customers themselves so if you’re able to handle the rude general public you’ll do grand

Pros

Chance for overtime, good pay, benefits

Cons

Rude colleagues and customers

Productive work place

Never have I worked at a call centre before Sky, it is a great place to work at! You are trained before you begin & you are eligible for so many benefits. The pay is incredible too & Daily bonus’ are included!Everyone is very helpful and nice. I could write so many pro’s to this job but I won’t have enough space! There aren’t at all many cons, though I would say the hours are extremely long each day, it’s a little tiring and uncomfortable.

Pros

Too many benefits to name.

Cons

Long hours

Stressful and competitive

I worked as a customer service advisor for sky. The training was done from due to lockdown, also the training was pretty much a waste of time as half of the stuff covered we didn’t really use on the job. My team leader was helpful but other managers would just focus on the ones who are sucking up unfortunately. There was very much little support when needed. The job role when I applied didn’t include any sales whatsoever. Then all of a sudden we had to start upselling which is very difficult when we are dealing with customers who are calling about a bad service. The focus was pretty much on sales rather than customer service.

Pros

Discounted broadband

Cons

Long hours

Targets first -customer second

There is far too much pressure on sales, despite being told initially it wasn't a sales role. If you voice an opinion that goes against policy you are deemed a 'problem'. Management won't take calls if you need help. If a customer is rude, insulting and disrespectful you are not supposed to take it personally. They offered support for my mental health issues but every suggestion I gave to help was turned down. I went off ill during my probation because my mental health suffered and I was made to feel guilty and it was pointed out how high my absence record was. If I had known just what the role was really like I would have avoided. Definitely a case of if your face fits with your manager.

Pros

Reduced SKY

Cons

All of the above.
