Great place to work
Tramper driver (Former Employee) - Coventry, West Midlands - 26 November 2023
Have your own lorry, no hassle from management as everything is done on WhatsApp. The only negative is not getting any response when you’ve had to message them with a problem or query

Used to be a good firm to work for
Hgv class 1 tramper (Former Employee) - York - 10 July 2023
Primarily Amazon runs during lockdown job was good with plenty of work guaranteed hours good and looked after. Since amazon other work is a mixture of wherever they can get you in . No hours guaranteed now and hard to get a start time for your first day sometimes waiting over 48hours. Very Poor communication. You will text them but no one acknowledges you .Good luck.
Pros
None
Cons
Long waiting times between jobs

An average place to work
HGV Class 1 Driver (Current Employee) - Doncaster, South Yorkshire - 5 June 2023
A kind of job if you like having no life and working most weekends. Perfect for someone single with no social life. Money is not bad. The management is average.

Shambolic
Class 1 tramper (Current Employee) - Darlington, Durham - 16 May 2023
When I started with this company it was out of necessity as I needed a job. The equipment is poorly maintained with tractor units and trailers often being poorly looked after by drivers whom seem to not care about the equipment. The hours are ridiculous. What kind of a company can't even tell you a time to start work the day before so that you can plan your sleep? It can sometimes verge on the dangerous as many a driver state they are available to work at 7am and then often don't find out until noon that they have been given work. You stay awake to look for a message on WhatsApp and then you're then expected to work potentially up to a 15 hour shift and I personally have had it where I have been awake for 24 hours whilst in charge of a HGV. Planners seem to not care about any personal circumstances you have so your work/life balance is so hectic that I would tell any driver to avoid this company at all costs. Time to wait is a joke too, sometimes you're expected to park up and wait 13 hours for a job be given to you and there seems to be no solid structure on what you as a driver should be doing.

Slam
Hgv tramper (Former Employee) - Coventry - 29 April 2023
What a place to work it’s a strange it’s wired till you work there then you find out pay is gd work is gd when you get it but the hours you work are a joke and I mean dangerous to life they would expect you to book on in the morning then give you a job a ten or midnight so awake all day then do a 12 or 15 hour shift after worst I’ve ever seen and the time they give you of is a joke your truck goes in for service you could be of work for weeks on end and don’t get paid for it in 30 years driving there the worst company I’ve ever worked for
Pros
Pay when your working
Cons
Very poor management and waiting time for a job is a joke

Avoid
Class 1 tramper (Former Employee) - Darlington - 1 April 2023
Started off really good i loved the job but on 4 days notice they took nearly a £1000 a month off of drivers. After that planners started treating drivers like rubbish (cant swear) and felt like they was trying to push drivers out instead of management growing a pair and telling the drivers they havent got work for them and letting them go that way. When you eventually given work about 15 hours after requesting it your expected to do a 15 hour shift after being awake 15 hours already waiting for work. Planners ignore your messages with problems or queries your constantly tired. They will also not ask if you can do a 6th shift and just give you it regardless of plans or not but they will book a service on the truck on the 5th day and expect you to work to your limits to get the 6th day done on the 5th also dont you dare refuse the 6th day because theyll take the whole week off you and youll be waiting hours for work again... as i said it started off great but after the 4 days notice to take nearly a £1000 off of drivers witch is an absoloute disgrace it started to fall apart
Pros
Pay WAS ok... going home at somepoint?
Cons
Everything else

Generally poorly ran company
Driver (Former Employee) - Darlington, Durham - 20 March 2023
No visible management, company seems to be ran by overseas planners who DO NOT CARE about drivers at all, they choose to ignore your request till they want you and are happy to leave you at the side of road for hours on end, not bothered if you time out in London and no parking available. ABSOLUTELY DREADFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!! AVOID ( you were warned)
Pros
Home day
Cons
Poor planning, no management, poorly maintained trucks

Decent
HGV Class 1 Driver (Former Employee) - Darlington - 23 October 2022
Decent little number to be fair, 99 percent of the job is Amazon work back onto a bay and sit for hours drinking coffee , all the work comes over WhatsApp and the targets are realistic no flying about

Void if possible !!!!
Company do not plan you till your start time, expecting you do not start until 13 Hours rest completed, būt be ready any time after 9 Hours rest (without pay), once you started company does expect you to take a break while you getting loaded or tipped, if you tired afterwords And you stop they will deduct proper rest you take from your pay! Company expects you to park in there yards (if you Can make IT!) without facilities or in laybays, you not alowed to park At Services or paid Parking locations (unless you willing to pay yourself). Then į stand up and said no, company offered me to leave, šo void if possible!!!

Work is physically easy, shift start times often unknown day before
LGV 1 Tramper (Former Employee) - York - 3 June 2022
Planners work done via what's app from overseas and communication is poor. Asking for a Start time (on your last rest day)for first shift, can take you all day/night for a response(,if any) And you sometimes don't know your first shift start time until the morning of first shift day as they have not told you day before? then when you are ready to start on your first day shift at say 07.00 , they will say( for example 13.30 start) plan you for a backshift/Nightshift. And you are sat at home until the afternoon of that day waiting to start. When down the road (layby with no facilities) after 9 hours daily rest you can ask for a start time, they(planners) will say they are looking (if you are lucky they will give you a job), normally you will not hear back from them until your 13 hours rest is complete (company rule that you have to wait 13 hours before starting work if not given job by planners) Management are ok and approachable. The organisation of planning for the driver is not good ,lots of room for improvement. As a "day shift Tramper" the uncertainty of working a "dayshift " Is constant.
Pros
Paid weekly on time
Cons
Uncertain work hours/ start times

you need a phone to work there
Only worked there 1 week to see what a rubbish job it was .Never spoke to anyone at slam as it is all done by text, no organization as to what you are doing the next day ,you can end up working days and nights in the same week ,the work is easy as the trailers are loaded for you and dropped off at amazon, they dont want drivers they want Duracell bunnies so you can take out the batteries when required
Pros
money
Cons
irregular hours expected to work

Could be good
HGV Class 1 Driver (Current Employee) - York - 28 March 2022
Basically a decent job which has slowly went downhill. The number 1 reason is the 13 hours forced rest which has to be took at the side of the road or in a inadequate slam depot.
Pros
Relaxing work, pay not too bad
Cons
Long rests, poor planners, very poor uk management

HGV Class 1 Driver (Former Employee) - Bathgate - 22 February 2022
good trucks, good job for amazon, planners for jobs are in no rush while you wait, never meet planners but if they have a grudge to bear,no comeback, easier to get a driver than train a planner
Cons

treated like a second class citizen
Manager (Former Employee) - Coventry, West Midlands - 29 October 2020
Slam have no clean facilities for the drivers. drivers are expected to work 6 on 2 off then have 45 off and back in. No allocated trucks so you change every week. all drivers are ran via WhatsApp and can be sat waiting after daily rest for 17 hours then expected to do a 9 hour shift. NOT ACCEPTABLE. £12 per hour Monday to Friday and £15 on weekends. Managers and owners only interested in maximising drivers hours and profits. No Family life
Pros
trucks less than 3 years old
Cons
long working hours and expected to wait for next day work for over 13 hours
