No work/life Balance
Dual Fuel Smart Meter Engineer (Former Employee) - West Yorkshire - 9 November 2023
It's a shamble of a company to work for at the moment, giving engineers unrealistic amount of jobs to complete excluding emergency jobs. On the phone with managers and dispatchers forcing you to do overtime and pick up extra jobs. They want Minimum 4 Duals doesn't matter if its in 4 different postcodes! SMS will promise Upskilling opportunities and flexibility before you join, but once your here good luck.

Terrible place to work
Customer Service Advisor (Former Employee) - Bolton - 4 October 2023
Management are terrible don't care if you have mental health issues Training was poor. Not enough training for calls, systems, not very organised. Positives: nice colleagues, team leader was nice. Too much pressure to hit targets, no work from home option have to wait 6 months. work environment terrible, very loud and noisy. Very busy place Job was boring. Advice to managers: Training needs to be more intense in terms of crm system, and need at least 4 weeks for the call training
Pros
Good colleagues, nice team leaders
Cons
Too much pressure to hit targets. Training not organised.

Started off good
Dual Fuel Smart Meter Engineer (Current Employee) - South East - 5 September 2023
Company started off good until they make promises of opportunities then pull them away because they don’t want to lose dual fuel guys. Terrible logistics planning, barely work in given postcode area. No bonus system for those that work hard and safe. If you finish your own work in good time you will be loaded up with slower engineers work that gets handed back left right and centre. Demoralising when you all get paid the same but skill levels are not. Upskilling doesn’t mean a benefit to you whatsoever. If anything it will only add to travel distance.

Going downhill
Contact Centre Agent (Current Employee) - Bolton, Greater Manchester - 21 August 2023
- reducing breaks - unrealistic targets with huge amounts of pressure to achieve them - recently changed the bonus structure which has reduced bonus - team leaders are unsupportive when you have any issues but constantly increasing pressure for targets

Jobs at SMS Plc
Very poor work life balance.
Dual Fuel Engineer (Former Employee) - Aberdeen - 16 August 2023
Worst metering company I have personaly worked for only thing good is the salary compared to other companys, unfortunatly the amount of work scheduled each day, constant pressure from back office to pick up extra jobs and and emergencys out weighs this benifit. Would not recomend this company has no consideration for work life balance.
Pros
Pay
Cons
No work life balance, lack of support

Boring and repetitive
Customer Service Advisor (Current Employee) - Bolton, Greater Manchester - 4 August 2023
You can’t do anything, short breaks no comfort break’s constantly taking calls makes you depressed. They are constantly monitoring you but at the same time won’t tell you how to improve.

Shockingly bad
Duel Fuel Engineer (Former Employee) - North East - 20 July 2023
Hands down the worst company I’ve ever worked for. Total lack of organisation. Total lack of common sense. HR department missing in action. Inept office staff, management are pure yes men. Not enough people answering phones, training facilities are laughable. Avoid like the plague. In fact, if you have the choice between the plague and SMS, opt for the plague.

Productive and Fun
Contact Advisor (Current Employee) - Bolton, Greater Manchester - 14 July 2023
Nice place to work, sometimes under pressure to perform, very nice colleagues and management. Day to day work can be repetitive however incentives make the place more fun.

Extremely unorganized
I & C electric meter engineer (Former Employee) - London - 11 July 2023
The company is unorganized will send you around all four corners of London within a day. Expect you to be on time even though they stretch you thin, they don’t care about your opinions basically put up and shut up
Pros
Well paid
Cons
Long commutes unorganized location structure

Wow
Customer Service Advisor (Former Employee) - Bolton, Greater Manchester - 15 June 2023
I have worked in a few call centres in my time but this takes the biscuit. You basically harras people into getting a smart meter fitted. If the customer says no you fail your call for not 'objection handling' (arguing with them). Unless the customer says 'never call me again' or 'take me off your list' the automatic dialler you work on keeps ringing them until they give in or go insane. In my brief time there they took away a five minutes per day comfort break and expected you to go to the toilet on your breaks/lunch. Shocking. By now they are probably asking employees to eat their lunch on the toilet. If you are interested in non-existent management, an atmosphere of a hostile school playground and being treated like a naughty robot - this might just be the job for you.

Great potential but some unpleasant culture
Senior IT Manager (Former Employee) - London, Greater London - 5 April 2023
Company trying to scale up and adapt to its considerable growth - which it's doing with very varying success. It's in a great industry but there is a counter culture whereby the directors at the top tell you "we're not a bunch of tree huggers!" and can be very derogatory to staff who are simply trying their best to deliver great results. Very demotivating to work under these circumstances, especially when it's clear that the company has such great potential to scale up whilst supporting the UK's carbon neutral targets.

Mixed Bag
Settlements Coordinator (Former Employee) - Cardiff - 26 March 2023
Great management team and very supportive environment on a base level but higher ups care little about entry level staff. Very unequal in regards to team salaries and development and higher up don’t listen to the suggestions from workers to help improve retention of staff etc

Worst company ever!
Advisor (Former Employee) - Bolton, Greater Manchester - 20 February 2023
Worked here for way too long, and never once seen any sort of appreciation. It’s all just numbers to theses guys! They have so many unreal targets to try and achieve with a bonus structure practically impossible to achieve. You are paid basic minimum wage to harass poor people into having a smart meter, ever call is recorded and listened too by management and you get scored on the basis if you forced them enough without getting the company into any trouble.
