Worst job I've ever had! Management was awful, the supervisors were b*tchy and had favourites. You get paid barley anything for lots of hard work, co workers were mental. Overall wouldn't recommend to anyone

There is more work than time to do it which means job satisfaction is low as it's impossible to do everything you would like to for your clients. I always went home late. When you do have the time it's very rewarding to make people happy.
Cons
Long hours, low pay, physically hard.

The care homes are busy and short on staff always. It can be stressful as senior staff and managers do not have the time to speak to you, unless you have not placed a towel in a room...then you have a review. Being short on resources means that the staff are pushed to the limit and have duties that constantly change. I really would not recommend the company.
Pros
parking available in most homes
Cons
Staff are ignored and not taken seriously

I worked at Somerset care for 6 months and leaving that job was the best thing I could do for my mental health. The interview process made me feel like i would be valued as part of the team but that quickly became not the case. Before you start you have to do a welcome day in Taunton and training days at your training centres which for me was Devises, after driving to these locations for me was cost me about a tank of petrol I later found that they wouldn’t reimburse me for even though I was told I would be on my first “welcome day”. When I start working there at first the work place seemed happy and friendly but quickly I found environment was cliquey and there was lots of back stabbing and people being very two faced. I found there was a lot of blatant favouritism and brown nosing, it was borderline impossible to have a conversation with anyone without being derogatory to another co worker. I expressed a lot of interest in doing an NVQ but this fell flat, The NVQ assessor made me feel uncomfortable and put me off doing it because of the way she spoke to me and acted around me. I was made to feel very much like I was very replaceable and unwelcome, I often felt like I was working to one set of rules and other people had other rules. Lots of the shifts were under staffed, I remember looking through a months worth of rotas and not being able to find one that was fully staffed, also the shifts were only 7 hours long so going from an 8 hour working day on a 5 day week you would lose 5 hours a week which equaled roughly £40. When I started I had no choice in my days off - more...

I loved working with somerset care, the team were amazing, the residents were lovely, made me want to come to work. I was very happy to come to work and looked forward to it. Was very pleased by the end of my shift as i knew i had helped someone out during the day/evening.

Too many hours for not enough wages. Have to do more than your job description. Bad managers that don't stick to their manual handling training and use incorrect methods, putting the residents at risk

Every care role is stressful but at somerset care have a great team work ethic that is great and will really get you through those tough days. The residents will also make your day and i feel i have achieved something each day.

Worked in Croft house days and nights for more than a year. I loved the job and loved the residents. I learnt a lot on the job and met some wonderful carers. The Management were Awful (poor AND unpleasant) The supervisors spent most of the time bunkered in the General office dashing out to do the Meds before retiring back to the office. The workplace culture was cliquey and the clique ran the floor as the supervisors were in the office and they did not have seniors. The hardest part of the job was leaving. I stayed in care and work for a national company with a different culture. My confidence is back. There are opportunities for me here and I'm appreciated. Before you go to Somerset Care have a look at other opportunities.........................

The care industry is in bad shape at the moment. Everywhere is understaffed and over worked so Somerset Care can't be blamed for that but in my experience they would rather fill a room with a resident that needs a different level of care than leave the room empty. This may make financial sense but is not in the residents best interests (and makes the job role almost impossible). Staff should be warm, caring and friendly people but are so overwhelmed and stressed that it effects their role as carers. Being a carer should be a rewarding role that you should be proud to do..... it is not like that anymore.

The amount of bad experiences on here genuinely shocks me as I have had nothing but good ones. Of course there are times when you are short staffed but what care home isn't from time to time? Agency companies wouldn't be in business if no care home was ever short staffed. It's all about pulling together with the team you work with and getting the job done whilst remaining respectful and carrying out person centred care. I feel that the Wyndham team are very good at this. There are opportunities to progress within this company and qualifications to gain. I work with people who have been involved in the company for 30+ years so they must be doing something right. I work with amazing colleagues and service users and wouldn't change a thing.

I liked working for Somerset Care most of the time, I made some friends in my time with the company but the bullying outweighed the liked and I dreaded going on shift to work in discomfort, the old manager was aware of the situation but nothing was done, hopefully the new manager will see what is happening and do something about it before more staff leave therefore not leaving shifts short staffed and current staff run ragged

Very good, they help when you need them, not so good at picking up the phone but when they can they are most helpful. I help people who need my help very nicely I've learned new things that I've never really done before in my life The hardest part at first was being on my own but you get used to it

Somerset Care made me really passionate about care work and the team members I worked with were kind, supporting, encouraging, and bent over backwards to do everything they could for both myself and the clients. Unfortunately, organisation was not a strong point and travel times were not allowed for, meaning clients had carers turning up late and feeling as though they were being rushed and the carer didn't have time for them. I was often asked to work on days off which ended up being too much and I lacked sleep massively.
Pros
Knowing you're helping the clients, even in the smallest way
Cons
Long hours, minimum pay, feeling as though you're disappointing the clients

After working for this company for only 8 months of my 1 year contract, I really do wish I didn't sign the contract they gave me. Their work ethic is terrible. It's all work and no play. No matter if you're getting along with a resident, a family or another member of staff, you're penalised for it. They don't like seeing someone not working. They will reduce your pay massively every month, I haven't been paid my proper amount on any payday since starting. Every day is tiring, long hours with no breaks. There are incredibly entitled members of staff, especially those who have either been a part of somerset care for years, or management. There is no happiness at this place. Everyone is down and stressed all the time. Somerset Care, don't care. If you can't do a little task one day, that's it, you're out. The staff turnover is huge and its for an obvious reason. The treatment of staff is far below average and I've never had to support so many people with their issues at work before. I enjoy my job role but dislike the management. It's all about making money, no more and no less.
Pros
I'm genuinely not sure if there are any, there are some really nice people, but the majority of your time will be spent worming through mean comments from other staff members.
Cons
Long hours, bad management, monthly underpayments, difficult tasks, weird smell about the whole place, and a thirst for money.

Working here was like being at a school, full of women who would bully and tear down others, giving orders and bossing overs around. The way I was spoke to used to make me go home and cry, I was seen more as an object than a person. I used to do my job but then the staff would come over and make me feel like I dont know what I'm doing and I was made to feel useless. I was made to feel stupid when I didn't want to do something because it was causing me pain. I overheard bullying going on to one of my friends there, a group of girls bulling her about what she was posting to Facebook. I was always left out and made to everything alone, no one to be found! I asked for help so many times and no one helped. Lack of support and respect, and it seemed like I was targeted all the time. I was put last, everyone got biscuits for Christmas and they weren't going to give me any ( only if there wasn't enough for everyone else) Such a shockingly poor horrible place to work.

Terrible company to work for! Long hours, no support from anyone and god forbid you should get on with another carer during working hours, as you'll get separated and a supervision. Threatening behaviour as well as bullying. Private conversations just taken in corridors where family's, other member of staff and clients can hear. Worked for them for just short of 5 years, had my first death within weeks of joining was told to go home pay was deducted even though supervisor told me to go home! Somerset care made my health deteriorate due to stress and bullying. No consideration for anyone. Management think of themselves come in and fly out whenever they feel like it. If you were sat down with residents talking to them you were seen as not doing your job. Understaffed and low waged
