It’s decent
Support Worker (Current Employee) - Lewisham, Greater London - 9 August 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedIt can be stressful, but interesting. Sometimes feels poorly managed but it really depends on your manager and team. Long hours, 12-14 hours. It can be dangerous sometimes.

No support from management
Trainee PWP (Current Employee) - Lewisham, Greater London - 5 June 2023
Working in mental health, there is literally no support from seniors, massive gap between step care. Teams put all in and the senior management expects a lot in return no training and support for staff available.
Cons
Exhausting case load, you will only learn by making mistake and someone telling you off.

Essentially a really great organisation
Mental Health Nurse (Current Employee) - London South East, Greater London - 27 May 2023
I have worked within many roles within this organisation. I feel there is a lot of career progression opportunities in terms of learning and development. They offer apprenticeships and further training to enhance your knowledge. They remain up to date in terms of pay scale and advancements.
Pros
Development opportunities
Cons
Poor work life balance

Toxic workplace
Support Worker (Former Employee) - London, Greater London - 7 December 2022
Ironically SLAM is a mental health trust and the community mental health team ruined my mental health to the point of no return. On initial introduction, I realised that there is no regard for newbies and you shadow your way through the job. CPN’s are overworked and have unrealistic caseload numbers. Management is lax and lack professionalism. There are cliques and a lack of respect for staff. Support workers are under appreciated and micromanaged to the point where you feel bullied and singled out

9/5, lucky if your attendance is acknowledged

Good place to work with challenging day to day requirements. It is a very demanding place to work, but hard and fair, a lot is expected from employees.

Bullying
Community Psychiatric Nurse (Former Employee) - Croydon - 13 October 2021
I think management need to be reigned in more to reflect on their behaviour towards staff. There seem to be a lot of issues that are rolled under the carpet and this can be nerve wracking for employees facing such treatment at work.
Pros
Gained experience
Cons
Bullying

Not enough Admin staff for amounts of work produced by clinical staff.
Admin (Former Employee) - Not stated - 28 August 2021
IT training i.e. Microsoft and digital training, not mandatory for clinical staff, leading to time consuming errors. Outdated administrative procedures necessary due to lack of IT knowledge by clinical staff. Systemic and hierarchical culture. Administration staff not listened to nor valued.

Awful
staff nurse (Former Employee) - Beckenham - 29 April 2021
Restrictive bad practice, poor leadership, bullying culture. Very unsafe staffing levels and an overall, distinct lack of empathy and compassion towards patients.

productive and serious working environment.
Care Assistant (Former Employee) - London - 20 January 2021
Working at the hospital was a complete different expectation to what i imagined it to be. its well maintained and everyone is very determined. of course they would be, its a hospital! but for some reason i imagined it to be very scary and all the workers are moving quickly. A Typical day at work is spending time with the elderly patients and just speaking with them about their life's and latest news. it was a very sweet environment and despite being at a mental ward it was a very calming atmosphere which made me feel safe. the most enjoyable part of the job was when i completed care packages and supported patients with their meal times.
Pros
free lunches
Cons
long hours of hard work

Excellent Team
Ward Manager (Former Employee) - Ladywell - 13 April 2020
I worked for South London and Maudsley NHS Trust for over 25 years and in many different roles. I enjoyed my work immensely and was proud to be part of an amazing team of staff on a difficult ward.
However I cannot say the same of the Senior Management and HR staff, who had no idea what it was like on the frontline of Acute Adult Psychiatric Care.

It was a great experience, and I received amazing training too which allowed me to succeed in my role as a volunteer. The role was also great, and I received support throughout.

Busy work place
Medical Secretary / Medical PA (Former Employee) - Camberwell, Greater London - 21 March 2020
This was an extremely busy role, where I had to take minutes at all MDT meetings for this role I had to cover several different sites and I had to type up allot of clinical letters using audio dictation. I also had scan all documents that came in and I had book all appointments.
I enjoyed the variety of the role and the dealing with patients , I found that be very rewarding. I found the hardest part of this role was dealing with conflicting tasks and meeting the deadlines .
