Essentially a really great organisation

Indeed featured review

I have worked within many roles within this organisation. I feel there is a lot of career progression opportunities in terms of learning and development. They offer apprenticeships and further training to enhance your knowledge. They remain up to date in terms of pay scale and advancements.

Toxic workplace

Ironically SLAM is a mental health trust and the community mental health team ruined my mental health to the point of no return. On initial introduction, I realised that there is no regard for newbies and you shadow your way through the job. CPN’s are overworked and have unrealistic caseload numbers. Management is lax and lack professionalism. There are cliques and a lack of respect for staff. Support workers are under appreciated and micromanaged to the point where you feel bullied and singled out

Pros

None

Cons

9/5, lucky if your attendance is acknowledged

productive and serious working environment.

Working at the hospital was a complete different expectation to what i imagined it to be. its well maintained and everyone is very determined. of course they would be, its a hospital! but for some reason i imagined it to be very scary and all the workers are moving quickly. A Typical day at work is spending time with the elderly patients and just speaking with them about their life's and latest news. it was a very sweet environment and despite being at a mental ward it was a very calming atmosphere which made me feel safe. the most enjoyable part of the job was when i completed care packages and supported patients with their meal times.

Pros

free lunches

Cons

long hours of hard work

As temporary worker who worked there for a short period, I liked how the staff and management were friendly, helpful, understanding and I was trained

The staff and management were very friendly, helpful. I was trained, given support when required. I enjoyed learning about what illnesses the clients can have, how the teams seek to support them and the various services available.

Pros

Training, good salary

ITs ok

No room for advancement this trust is not for me its really does not meet my need and my family needs any longer. I just have to move on since upper management is an old boys club.

No two days the same

Typical days would involve advise and guidance. I learned numerous things including payroll calculations, clinical audit, the implication of national legislation at local levels. How to combat staff conflict. Team management. Event organisation. I forged numerous sucessful working relationships it was an unofficial given when issues arose 'ask Andrea'.

Pros

Varied working days, pro activity appreciated

Cons

None that I can readily think of

Good training to build your skills

Working in mhoa could be challenging at times but also very rewarding to achieve making a difference to someone's life. Every day could bring different challenges but we all supported one another. When you have good team you can accomplish so much. I've met so many people from all walks of life and found it so interesting to find out patients life stories.

NHS struggles impacting all aspects

Unfortunately like large parts of NHS, especially Mental Health - struggling with understaffing. This then impacts on the efficiency of the services and even on the safety of staff, with often extremely unwell patients being managed by less staff than required. This can result in low morale.
