Project Manager (Former Employee) - Perth, Perth and Kinross - 2 May 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedGood benefits, team spirit but a lot of nepotism. Not challenging. Average pay. A lot of people who don’t seem to know what they’re doing and have no basic organisational skills.

Old boys club
Customer Service Advisor (Former Employee) - Havant, Hampshire - 29 May 2023
Lots of meetings that produced no results. Managers that had no clue about the job. Things put in place that made no sense, just a company grasping at straws before ultimately being taken over. Also bit of an old boys club feel to it and a. unwillingness to embrace new (efficient, money and time saving) technology.

Awful treatment of people
IT Consultant (Former Employee) - Havant, Hampshire - 17 May 2023
Chaotic and incompetent workplace that treat contract staff very poorly. They’d have to triple the rate to even halfway compensate for the petty minds of their long term staff

Challenging and interesting
Renewables Technician (Current Employee) - Scotland - 26 April 2023
Working on a variety of projects both in and out of power stations. Work is varied and interesting, with no two days the same. The company is not the highest payer, with the result that a lot of experienced personnel have transferred to other parts of the business or gone altogether. They would do well to value the experience they have left, as at the moment it is all leaving. Things are ok for the moment, but I am not sure how that can last. Job itself is great, despite "corporate" nonsense, which you'll get anywhere.

Toxic environment
Customer Service Advisor (Former Employee) - Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire - 15 March 2023
Micromanaged. Powermad managers. If you work hard you have to take more work. So essentially you do 200% whilst other don’t even hit 100% you just hold the handrail reverse park and challenge each other/tell on one another to get points for your end of year review. Bizarre atmosphere to create. Constantly changing systems and ways of working so not even the quality team knows what to follow now.

Dishonest !
HGV Class 2 Driver (Former Employee) - Hayes, Greater London - 12 March 2023
I was interviewed for a job just about where I live . Passed interview and was told will have to do screening for 2-3 months. Ok. After that I got a phone call on New Year’s Eve to tell my one manager that I was leaving in 2 day as SSE suddenly needed me , and the depot would be 1 hour 15 min drive away . Nice trick. The joke is on You SSE The money for lorry class 2 is probably the lowest in industry. And endless ethic and company vision courses are not beneficial as they think .
Pros
Large employer
Cons
Dishonesty from the start

Good workload, nice team environment, minimal career progression. Internal career job page available but most are taken by external candidates. Training is available with a business case

Jobs at SSE PLC
Not bad
Customer Advisor (Former Employee) - Cardiff - 26 February 2023
Worked here for 12 years on various departments. Very fast paced and targets to be met daily. Can get stressful especially on call centre. Well paid but should be for what you put into the job.

You are just a number
Customer Service Advisor (Former Employee) - Reading, Berkshire - 20 February 2023
They treat you as just a number, Unachievable targets and not providing a good service for there customers with these targets. Management do not know your role and will not be able to help if you have a unsatisfied customer as they are advised they are there just to manage team. To many slopey shoulders no one taking ownership which then lacks in poor customer service. Favorites are made very visble within teams. Human Resources are very much blinked and not supportive of staff. Very much health and safety to the visible eye but do not really give a the serious matters a care in the world.
Pros
Good pay
Cons
Lack of care for staff, poor customer service

Rotten
Customer Service Advisor (Former Employee) - Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire - 10 February 2023
Hold hand rails and reverse park. One of the many rotten proposals that inept management put in place. The guys working with were great but the management were useless

Great team members, management very clicky with very little career progression
Customer advisor (Former Employee) - Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire - 6 February 2023

Great salary and share options
Credit Management Advisor (Former Employee) - Basingstoke, Hampshire - 26 January 2023
Overboard on health and safety, ie highly paid management checking you walked the correct side of staircase while holding handrail. Everyday had to carry out checks on your workstation although workstation not shared. Colleagues friendly and lower level management great. Went from 9-5 Monday - Friday to shifts between 8-8 at 8-2 one saturday in 6 however every day of week a different shift which was a pain.
Pros
Great pay and share options
Cons
Different start and finish time everyday

Good benefits and pay, but no career progression
Fault Dispatcher (Current Employee) - Portsmouth, Hampshire - 14 January 2023
Have worked for SSE for many years, in various different departments. You get good benefits, but things have changed so much over the years. Lack of career progression and job security being a few . Nice people to work with and have made some good friends.

Very cliquey
Customer Service Advisor (Former Employee) - Havant, Hampshire - 12 January 2023
The job itself isn’t bad but management are very cliquey and if you don’t fit in then it can be a struggle. Management are very self serving, if it doesn’t directly affect them and their stats then they don’t really care. Very stat driven, don’t expect to have a min to yourself if you’re working call centre, the moment you make your phone ‘unavailable’ you have 3+ people asking what you’re doing. I was there 7 years so obviously not unbearable, but it says a lot that nearly everyone I talk to there went for the voluntary redundancy.

Good employer
Offshore Asset Integrity Engineer (Current Employee) - United Kingdom - 21 December 2022
Basic pay, middle range benefits, easy job. Flat org structure so progression is difficult. Safety culture is throughout. HR is their downfall as they are slow to react

Good training and work life balance
Smart Meter Engineer (Former Employee) - Ashford, Kent - 20 December 2022
Good company to work for, good training and standard of work. Managers not pushing for high number of installs but focus on quality and safety. Good ongoing training opportunities.
