Good company - not a lot of development
Sales Assistant (Current Employee) - Perth, Perth and Kinross - 14 September 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedGood company with great benefits and good salary, overall good atmosphere in my department. But developing or trying to become a manager, there is almost none help and direction

A company who look after their staff and public. In return pay is of standard rate for all with share incentives and pension benefits.
Electrician (Former Employee) - Devon - 23 September 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Well established company who look after their staff and customers, health and safety top of their agenda. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Keeping to a tight schedule in your work program can sometimes be stressful but you have the backing by a good working team and managers. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Health and Safety is top of their list so you know nothing is taken for granted without the correct procedures put in place for the work environment and the employees and public. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Drive to work, on site to start at 8am. talk through job. Risk assessment written out for tasks to be carried out. Controls put in place , carry out job. Break at 10am lunch at 1pm for 30 minutes, back to work until 4pm , drive home .

Awful
Driver (Current Employee) - Aberdeen, Aberdeen City - 12 September 2023
Management are the big issue. No organisational skills and they all promote friends from previous companies rather than genuinely capable people. Needs a total reform

Good place to work, a lot of benefits and career progression. The office space is amazing too. A lot of support is given both professionally and personally.

Very high pressure environment; Lost sense of self as a result of the consistent pressure and was very hard to take time off. Would not recommend Lovely colleagues however

Lead up the garden path
Gas Meter reader (Former Employee) - Belfast, County Antrim - 24 July 2023
Was s excited to join SSE as a meter reader in Belfast. At interview stage everything was great. I enquired about the routes I would be doing and was repeatedly assured that all routes are in order and periodically bring you back to your vehicle. However on starting my post I soon realised that this was not the case. Most routes I was assigned were a jumbled mess and could be very stressful. You could also leave your vehicle and not see it again for 6 hours. I feel that the more accessible routes were given to the favoured meter readers, whilst others got routes where they could access properties to get a read, hence no bonus. Also you have to wait for up to a month for fuel payments. The two managers are inept and you never return your messages. I also never had a payslip in six months. In SSE you are promised the world, but the in reality you get the opposite. Which is a shame the job itself has potential, only to be let down by management.

Cliques but overall alright
Customer Service Advisor (Current Employee) - Belfast, County Antrim - 17 July 2023
Overall the job is fine, you know what you’re getting with any customer service role - some nice customers, some not so nice. The criteria they currently hold for scoring is abysmal though and borderline designed to have agents fail. Decent pay, and not too taxing. Although clear signs of nepotism, with jobs being offered to candidates who didn’t even have to interview. Very clique-like and could be hard to break into if you’re not an outgoing person.

Very stressful
Administrator (Former Employee) - Perth, Perth and Kinross - 9 June 2023
I enjoyed about my first month on the job then after I had a mini holiday everything I did was “wrong”. My manager was constantly micromanaging me and it really had a negative effect on mental health

Old boys club
Customer Service Advisor (Former Employee) - Havant, Hampshire - 29 May 2023
Lots of meetings that produced no results. Managers that had no clue about the job. Things put in place that made no sense, just a company grasping at straws before ultimately being taken over. Also bit of an old boys club feel to it and a. unwillingness to embrace new (efficient, money and time saving) technology.

Awful treatment of people
IT Consultant (Former Employee) - Havant, Hampshire - 17 May 2023
Chaotic and incompetent workplace that treat contract staff very poorly. They’d have to triple the rate to even halfway compensate for the petty minds of their long term staff

Average
Project Manager (Former Employee) - Perth, Perth and Kinross - 2 May 2023
Good benefits, team spirit but a lot of nepotism. Not challenging. Average pay. A lot of people who don’t seem to know what they’re doing and have no basic organisational skills.

Challenging and interesting
Renewables Technician (Current Employee) - Scotland - 26 April 2023
Working on a variety of projects both in and out of power stations. Work is varied and interesting, with no two days the same. The company is not the highest payer, with the result that a lot of experienced personnel have transferred to other parts of the business or gone altogether. They would do well to value the experience they have left, as at the moment it is all leaving. Things are ok for the moment, but I am not sure how that can last. Job itself is great, despite "corporate" nonsense, which you'll get anywhere.
