Happy Place to work, Salary Excellent .
Depot Administrator (Current Employee) - Redhill, Surrey - 9 June 2020
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedWorking at SSE has had it challenges, you can be asked for a databases to be completed in the next couple hours to be sent out to all managers. At times it could be stressful.
Everyday I learnt something new whether it could be on excel or better way of working.
The culture at SSE was safety at all times, your bothers keeper.
The most enjoyable part of my job was helping people, doing the role as the best I could, I worked with people I now call friends. The office was a very happy place to work.
Pros
Use of company vehicle
Cons
Could be stressful at times

Very stressful
Administrator (Former Employee) - Perth, Perth and Kinross - 9 June 2023
I enjoyed about my first month on the job then after I had a mini holiday everything I did was “wrong”. My manager was constantly micromanaging me and it really had a negative effect on mental health

I have enjoyed working for SSE for over a year now. The working environment is very relaxed, friendly and flexible. The staff and management are wonderful. They treat you like friends rather than colleagues. Help is always available. Early finish.

Not a great place to work
Administrator (Former Employee) - Havant - 2 April 2021
Sadly the culture here is; if your face fits or you're "friends" with Senior Management / HR you do well and you're in a lead role before you know it. Those that genuinly work hard to progess get over looked. Great pay and flexible working for the majority of teams - call centre staff are fixed hours/shifts. H&S focused heavily on, to the point of extreme. Loyalty and long service mean nothing to SSE, we've witnessed many employees turn up for work, taken into a meeting and given financial packages to leave with no notice. If you're looking to earn good money SSE is a great stepping stone, but don't get too comfy there.
Pros
Good pay
Cons
Inconsistancies overall

Good workplace
Administrator (Former Employee) - Aberdeen, Aberdeen City - 19 May 2020
I worked here just for two months. Everyone was friendly and helpful.
I was in a large office with one other person most of the time although others would come in from time to time to use the other desks.

New starters nightmare scenario
Administrator (Current Employee) - Havant, Hampshire - 20 November 2018
My last reference from previous employer read "She is a gregarious, personable employee that excels in what she does" - well that is so laughable now, I have forgotten who that person is after starting at SSE. As a company it has so much potential but falls flat with new staff members; It was supposed to be a 4 week classroom based training - NOT. After exactly 7 days from the start we were hit with 2 hour long exams to see how much we had learnt!! The training is so full on and the only word that keeps coming to mind is OVERWHELMING. We had so much thrown at us and very little time to practice computer based and then told after 2 weeks we would be in our departments with a buddy, a one to one work based partner where we could learn on the job - NOT. We got deployed to our various departments who were not equipped or ready to take us, so we were distributed where there was a spare desk and basically left to our own devices. As soon as we are shown one thing, we are not given any time to get confident with that, then it's on to the next and so on. The environment itself is absolutely huge but it is very easy to feel totally isolated and alone. Yes there are some lovely people there in truth and they try their best to help and teach and it could be a lovely place to work, but again that same word comes to mind - it is all so overwhelming. Not having worked in a call centre environment before I have found it difficult to adjust to staring at a computer screen all day with no breaks other than dinner or a quick toilet break but that's it. I am used to being able to leave -
Pros
Hours, money, locality, nice people
Cons
Overwhelming

Not the best anymore
Administrator/Coordinator (Former Employee) - Betkshire - 22 January 2016
Worked for SSE for 9yrs. Initially they were great to work for but as the years passed so did the Managers and things changed big time.
The managers got younger and the bullying increased although one of my line managers was the nicest one I had ever worked under and if only I stayed in that department and not moved I would still be there today.
The prospect of being able to move departments is great experience in my eyes. I don't think it works though when you are in the south and your manager is in Scotland.
I found this extremely difficult being on my own in the south without sufficient support and always getting picked on and bullied by the manager via phone or video link.
The company is definitely not as good to work for anymore despite regular surveys we were asked to complete about great place to work.
A lot of people would slate the health and safety policy but it was put in place for a reason and I didn't have an issue with that.
I did make some great friends there who I still keep in touch with and most of which don't work for them anymore either.
I would steer clear of them.
Pros
Salary, prospect of moving departments
Cons
Bullying, unrealistic targets
