We care for some of the most clinically complex patients in the mental health system, people who could not, in many cases, be treated elsewhere. Many of our patients have been in the criminal justice system and are some of the most vulnerable people being treated anywhere in the health service.

We develop innovative ways to help our patients to recover, creating a personalised package of care designed around each individual, which focuses on their physical and spiritual wellbeing as well as mental health.

High staff turnover due to poor management at the very top

Overall enjoy working at St Andrew’s but there’s a lot of staff unhappy with how things are done. Many promises made but no action. On the flip side there’s staff that have been there many years and enjoyed it.

Flexible and friendly organisation

I work on the staff bank, the flexibility is very convenient. I can choose and cancel shifts very easily, there are shifts available 24/7. The pay is good if you work unsociable hours due to enhancements. Most of the staff are very friendly and helpful, I’ve got to know a lot of the staff over the years. There is a nice sense of camaraderie between staff. My workchoice manager is supportive ...

Tough working environment but diverse

Long hours and often short staffed, which can make it dangerous. But plenty of opportunity to grow and train in other areas within the company. Teams and management vary greatly but as the site is so big, request to transfer wards is possible to find the right team for you.
