Health Care Assistant in Northampton

Brilliant Nursing Staff, Poor Management
I have met some of the loveliest and most giving nursing staff during my time at St. Andrews, people who support me when times are hard. HOWEVER! The management is poor. My manager never checks in with me. I have seen some traumatic things with no debrief, and when you ask for support you just get signposted to the trauma service. Bank staff are often not made to feel like part of the team, and are no provided with any training when you start or regular check-ins on their mental health. The pay is not great (£9.90 an hour for your standard band 2 HCA) and the work is hard, you sometimes will end up in several restraints a day, or left on observations for 4 or more hours. Staffing is awful and shifts get cancelled at last minute. The company obviously has money as they keep forking out for new tech, but can't be bothered to pay to have new staff to pay their loyal staff appropriately. It's a shame, and so many good workers are leaving because of this.Overall, staff are brilliant, but the whole way the company is run is a shambles.

Long hours
Always understaffed and the management team is always cares about the money, not staff and patients. 12 hours is just burn out especially when the ward is understaffed!

Good Team work and support
It was nice to work there as a student as I got the support of most of the staff members. I was given the opportunity to learn and practice knowledge gained.

Horrible place to work
Management were awful they do not care about workers at all, we were under staffed constantly putting us in extremely dangerous situations every day. It has such a high turnover of staff and patients hate this
