The worst working experience of my life
Education Officer (Former Employee) - South East London, Greater London - 12 March 2023
Care is second to none, but treatment of staff leaves much to be desired. The high staff turnover indicates this. The environment was toxic; I had an unsupportive manager; my workload was excessive; I was undervalued and treated with contempt.

Jobs at St Christopher's Hospice
Amazing hospice but horrible Retail side
Retail Assistant Manager (Former Employee) - Orpington - 7 November 2022
The Hospice itself is doing a fantastic job but the retail side of it is awful. Having been shouted at for things out of your control, no support and it feels like being back at school with higher management gossiping. Being treated different because of a disability and age seems to happen more often than it should. Sadly treated more like a number than an actual human being. Absolutely lovely volunteers.

Respectful
The staff at the hospital are very respectful and they enjoy having other people to work with. As a volunteer, I was able to speak to the patients at the hospice and find out their own experience here so it was very nice.

Overall good company
RETAIL ADMIN ASSISTANT (Former Employee) - Orpington, Greater London - 16 February 2020
Nice friendly company but they do expect blood from stone , considering the wages are very low . Also you do not get paid lunch hour , but yet you can never take it as no one to cover you,
Pros
Nice and friendly people

Low wage for work

Good place to work with
Community Development internship (Former Employee) - Sydenham, Greater London - 27 January 2020
There is no better place innovation wise and boldness. Good education opportunities.
Not so good was the lack of long term stability regarding the role I have got, because of funding.

Family friendly
Auxiliary Nurse (Former Employee) - Sydenham, Greater London - 12 June 2019
Very rewarding, great to work as part of a team and care for others. The staff were lovely to work for and were very pleasant and kind people. I worked there for a few years and the management were always there to give me flexible working times due to having a young daughter. The management were kind and often wanted to know how I was feeling and were always there to discuss any problems I had. The job is rewarding as you get to look after people And their family as they come together at this sad time.
Pros
Feeling like part of a family

Fun place to be
Volunteer (Former Employee) - Beckenham - 13 June 2016
Volunteering at St Christopher's gave me all the skills that would help me later in life to get a job. I was working all over the shop from working on the till, to restocking and pricing items, to sorting out old stock. Management is there to always there if you need help with prices, or unsure on anything, or up for a good laugh. there was no seen hierarchy,
Friendly environment, thoroughly enjoyed working there,
Hardest part- with donations when you cannot find space for the items but at the same time there is no room in the back for storage
Enjoyable part- working with everyone, overall customer experience
Pros
Friendly environment
Cons
Overload in donations

It wasn't about the money, it was about the experience
Volunteer (Former Employee) - Kent - 14 March 2016
I remember my first time in the shop, working out the back pricing the items. I remember annoying my nan asking her every two seconds how much should i price this or how much should i price that. i loved every minute of it, and was intrigued to learn new things and more. I loved sorting through the clothes, bringing in the ones that were out of date.
The till i most enjoyed, learning new things, meeting and greeting and interacting with more customers.
The hardest part was the idea that i wasn't so confident at the beginning, but that's what i loved about the job, I grew to feel more confident with co-workers and the customers.
But what I loved the most was how much time I could spend with my nan, while doing something we both love.
Pros
Lovely colleagues
Cons

Great environment
Donor Support Officer (Current Employee) - London, ENG - 11 May 2014
Put donations onto the database, processing 300,000 gifts a year worth a total of £7.5 million.
Interacting with donors, making sure any problems they have had with their donations etc can be solved.
The management are good and fair. I knew what i was doing at all times and they allowed you to give your input into certain matters and they weren't afraid to use your ideas.
There is a great atmosphere in the office. Everyone is really bubbly and gets on well, and you enjoy working there more because of it.
The pressure at the end of the month, having to get all of the gifts on before the monthly review. Also dealing with emotional donors after a loved one passing was a tough at first.
Pros
A lot of responsibility
