Lots of cranks at both Newcastle depots...majority of drivers are good lads..however be cautious of the union trio at slatyford depot..liars through and through..one of them claims to be a man of the cloth...but is nothing more than a rat....as are the other two!....money canny....the manageress at slatyford can't manage to have a wash in the mornings so successfully managing a bus depot is out of her depth....but the unions the main problem...imposters the lot of them....
Pros
Banter

Will only listen to your ideas if you have your nose firmly up the supervisor or managers bum. Dont care about being signed off from doctors and will look to fire you because of them. Broke driving law many times as they so short staffed they merge 2 duties into 1. Monkeys could arrange mass drinking session in a brewery better then this company could run buses
Pros
The drivers (we all know its terrible)
Cons

plenty off overtime as the turnover off staff is high. Management need to be retrained in looking after their staff instead off profit, profit, profit.

Management and controllers always on your back. Never felt supported, work/home life massively imbalanced towards work. Too stressful to be productive, not allowed to think for yourself then made to feel a fool for not doing so!!Money ok but I'd rather be paid less and have a better quality of life!

Can be a tough job if you make it tough. I’d advise not to take the verbal assaults personally because you will be abused trust me , it’s just the way a lot of people are these days . Chill out , drive up and down relax , you can’t beat the traffic , it’s not a race .
Pros
Colleagues
Cons
Pretty clueless management like most jobs

Management are backstabbing and untrustworthy the union works with Management so no help there. They don't care about family life or do not allow grievance days off. After 2 years was diagnosed with depression and anxiety. If you value family and your life don not apply
Pros
Some colleagues
Cons
Everything

Stagecoach don't care about staff, their families or anyone's health. Every company is there to make. Money but stagecoach will take it to the extra level to make their money. They bend rules when suitable for them, but punish you for the smallest mistake you may make. Management sit on their high horses not having a clue what goes on out in the real world. We are expected to take abuse, physical and verbal as its Part of the job.Training is great to get your license but when it comes to route learning they will give you a paper map to follow whilst driving. But then punish you when you are late or are caught not paying attention to the road due to their road map 😂The place is a joke and their turn over of staff is absolutely ridiculous.
Pros
Pension, health benefits. Free bus pass
Cons
Long hours, stress, abuse, punished for everything, no toilet facilities

Working for stagecoach you are just a number. Management at the Northampton depot at least don’t make you fell like that. They are really quite good and they will work in your best interest as a person. Don’t listen to other staff about any member of management and make your own opinions instead is what I advise in this regard.Shift patterns were totally random so not ideal if you want clear days off or want to work a steady 9-5. What brings the place down is that the majority of drivers are childish and will look for any excuse to refuse travel or create a problem with other drivers and customers. There are good drivers though that will look after you but if a driver you trust warns you of another driver, heed that warning! Although as previously mentioned ignore any opinions of management! This is because the people with bad things to say have probably been reasonably chastised and are upset about “that on time”. You’ll find that you feel like at times you might be in a bit of a playground.Keep your head down and don’t truly trust anyone! As a driver you spend most of the day on your own with customers so other drivers are quite easy to avoid if that’s what you wanna do. Just please don’t be “one of them drivers” and just be a decent person. And don’t let anyone treat you like a mug (except the passengers). If you’ve got a driver giving you grief, don’t stand and take it because it is very much a playground environment.
Pros
Guaranteed hours, overtime available, most passengers are decent, buses are kept in good condition, some drivers are pretty decent, good break time facility’s and regular breaks, good wage.
Cons
Random hours, can start super early, feels like you are raising your work mates, can finish super late.

If you enjoy long hours, brutal shift patterns and poor management then this is the job for you. At face value the money is ok but nowhere near worth it for the work/life balance involved.
Pros
Reasonable money
Cons
Everything else

If you like all manner of people, would enjoy serving your local community and can manage manage your stress levels so that things out of your control (traffic/roadworks etc) don`t get to you then give it a try. Of course you must like driving too ! Flexible shift patterns and for me a good community of drivers, controllers, engineers, cleaners, admin and management all looking out for each other. Pay is fair, of course it could always be higher; the training superb. The new apprenticeship driver program ( which i`m in ) is an opportunity to further develop skills and education after getting your pcv and cpc licences.New investment promised for the bus industry from government. Good social club and lots of other benefits like share scheme, pension, good union, free bus pass, corporate gym discount to name a few. Weekly pay too ! If you have been paid monthly then it feels like its nearly always payday.See the good in people and the job and it will reward you with lots of smiles and friendly banter from the overwhelmingly decent passengers you encounter. Of course there`s always a minority of not so decent bods but that`s life. Stagecoach invest a of money, time and effort in training you and i feel valued as an employee . I cant speak for other depots but here the managers and controllers cant help you enough and promote a decent culture of professional standards coupled with a friendly supportive atmosphere. Highly recommend.
Pros
Opportunity to make a positive difference to your commhntiry
Cons
None (with the right attitude and expectations)

The worst company I've ever worked for, no family life or social life. Holidays are given to you so no good if you want to have time off with family during school holidays. The union are a waste of space, too friendly with management and always on managements side when having a disciplinary. If your face doesn't fit then expect to be in for a disciplinary most days and the union will not support you!
Pros
Pay is average
Cons
no social life, useless union.

I've been with the company for 10+ years- which is the only good thing about it ie continuity. My time there has been more depressing and stressful than I could have imagined. You are literally a number. All that matters is the bottom line. You are watched and scrutinised continuously. Accidents that are not your fault ARE your fault. You get caught with a fake note- your fault, you pay. So much negativity. I could go on....
Pros
Free bus travel for you + 1
Cons
Very long hours, unpaid breaks, brown nosing culture, uncomfortable buses.

Worked out of Arbroath depot and the management don't have a clue. Treated like scum don't listen, like to dictate to you. Father and son running the depot a right couple of a-holes. And some fat guy from Perth as his assistant. Too many inspectors trying to catch you out for the smallest mistake. The Jobs stressful enough without them adding to it. Should be exact fare only to improve the services and maybe the buses will run on time. And less hassle for the drivers not having change daily.

Training was excellent then it went downhill when I went to the bus depot. Rotas are totally unfamily friendly. New rules are brought out all the time but none are for the benefit of the staff and rotas are changed regularly without staff having a say in the matter
