SCB on the whole

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Great place to work; brand entity.Work is standardized. SCB takes all experienced professionals; work wise ot is quite easy and simple - probably because the team has all the skillsets and expertise level.

Productive but Management lacked

I felt privileged to be asked if I was interested in applying for a tellers position by the bank manager. It took a month or more to finally be in position. On my first day, I had to complete security modules and a certificate is presented at the end of every module if you passed. I was surprised during my first week that I was approached to be a CDD officer and accepted the challenge. I'm not someone who takes full lunch breaks so any free time I had I would assist with inputting transactions into the system. Sadly, some management thought it was okay to whisper in front of a full room of staff on a daily basis and it did make one feel uncomfortable. I have been on management level and we lead by example. I loved my job and the team but when I was approached by one of the management for being at most, 2 minutes late on an odd day. It really upset me as I took no tea or smoke breaks or looked at my mobile phone during work hours but worked really hard to get the job done. If another opportunity arose for a job in a bank I would definitely apply.

Pros

Good team

Cons

Long hours

Nice place to work with

Fair pay, but busy environment. Many job opportunities. Lots of competitions. Cannot stau in the job for long as target keeps up and up and seems unachievable

High expectations

High benchmark and little support to integrate. E work life balance impacted. Autonomy and team management skills. Sharp thinkers across most teams. Ability to get things done quickly is limited.

Horrific place - be warned

I was once proud of Standard Chartered and it has gone downhill. Management is horrific, HR is a mess, staff treated poorly. I left for a competitor but hear that the culture is still abusive. Time for an overhaul.

Productive, fast-paced, room for growth and personals development

Standard Chartered is a great place to work, learn and grow as an individual. All their offices are equipped with the best facilities to propel and foster productivity.During my time at Standard Chartered, I learnt a great deal about good work ethics, collaboration and the ability to deliver even under pressure. There is a strong work culture that consumes you in a very good way.Once your are part of the team, you are absolutely here for good.

Pros

Collaborative and strong culture environment

Cons

The compensation can be much better

Excellent place

I found the culture of the bank as it's greatest prize. It's diverse in it's DNA which means anyone irrespective of who you are will thrive if you work hard.

Productive and fun workplace

I was holding a position of Employee Banking Relationship Manager and majorly working with SMEs to offer payroll packages. The working environment is competitive.

Productive and fun

Very stressful at times. Fast paced. Great opportunities for career progression. Management expect a lot but our very fair. If you enjoy working in a fast paced environment and thrive under pressure

Productive work environment

Best place to work. I have spend over 3 years in the bank and everyday spent working for the bank is remarkable, good avenue to learn and progress professionally.

Not for someone who wants to progress

Overall, SCB it’s a good bank to work for. There is great work-personal life balance. However, management is not inclusive… some teams have zero managers non white English male. Opportunities are not given to those with skills and experience, but rather to Management’s BPMs (Business Personal Managers) or Management’s “close circle”…

Pros

Good work personal life balance

Career progression very slow

Good place in general, flexibility is great and wfh options for most of the teams in London. However, career progression is very slow, pay below market average.

Pros

Work from home, flexibility

Cons

Slow career progression

can be good if you find the right departement

systems are out of date and obsolete, very paper heavy and politics rules the day (just like any other corporate organisation) you meet some of the nicest people and a few bad apples

Mixed

I left this role due to the guernsey office being closed down. Good work life balance with an inclusive environment. However management was not as good as would be expected.

Good old international bank

Excellent international network. Great international graduate programme. Some opportunities to move around. The bank is trying to reinvent itself, innovate and also keep people happy, but the office environment during the last several years has been difficult. Waves of redundancies, increased workloads, psychological pressure and office politics are the downsides.

Good work life balance - unusual org struture

Enjoyable place to work, as with many places funding for projects is insufficient and hence the delivery and governance are inadequate. Singapore management bias also presents challenges globally.

Busy/Varied

Great place to work - work/life balance. Early starts but that is the nature of the bank as the footprint is in Asian markets. Looks after their staff. Human/valued.
