Starbucks Employee Review
Unfair, Favouritism and Low Pay
Barista (Former Employee) - Nottingham - 26 September 2023
I worked at Starbucks for about a year, and it definitely has its pros and cons to say the least Pros: Partners/Customers are usually friendly, flexible hours, free drinks and 50% off food on shift, 30% off on merchandise, good for students/part time work Cons: Awful Management, terrible pay (for young people under 21), in my experience, bias management, 15 minutes breaks for anything under 6 hours (even if you start early/finish late which goes unpaid) always unstaffed, not enough hours, bad hygiene, open shift starts at 5:30 (if you don’t drive), It’s an okay job, it’s nothing special. I do think that pay is an issue that definitely needs to be addressed before applying here. Under 18’s earn less than £6 an hour, and under 21’s earn less than £8 an hour. With this review being written as of 2023, the living crisis as of now, the pay of everything is increasing more each day, and this job will not be able to have a stable income to afford all your needs. Management is either hit or miss, you get really chill ones, or stuck up ones. It’s hard for me to write a balance review on management due to that factor. In my experience, my manager was awful and didn’t perform the role professionally. However, I’ve heard some partners from other stores say their manager listens to their peers and they have good teamwork and communication. Hours here are pretty bad too, especially with bias management. The only good thing about them is how flexible the company is with them and work around your needs, although getting more hours is a struggle and partners are practically fighting to -
Pros
Free drinks, discount on food/merchandise/flexible hours/friendly customers
Cons
Early starts/late closing shifts/low pay/bad management/problems with hygiene/low hours

do not recommend

good for short term but that's it, managers should not have this title, little pay and always busy. Some coworkers were friendly but overall I don't recommend working there long term
