Thank you for your positive review of working in our Edinburgh office. We always strive to have our offices in central locations, with easy access to amenities. It is also great to know that your work was interesting and you value the connections that you have made, both with team members and managers. We wish you good luck with your career!Anna, Global Human Resources

Asset Manager Services

Overworked and Underpaid. Management generally uninterested in what employees have to say, often implementing systems & processes to the detriment of employees work life balance. Compensation is relatively poor compared to the rest of the industry and there isn't much room for progression. Would avoid at all costs.

Cons

Long hours, poorly compensated, not much progression opportunities.

Great place to work

I've worked in many Custodian Investment Banks and Asset management companies and have regarded State Street very highly due to it's great working culture and relatable management. If can get busy, but there is a good understanding amongst many senior staff and was looking as you're putting in an effort, you will be appreciated

Pros

Work culture and work life balance

Cons

Can have bad days, systems issues are a plenty

OK place to work

Nice place, nice people, vanilla bank, Boston Head quartered, mix of Buy side and Sell side offering, high turnover of staff in some areas, budget constraints

Good experience

I worked within the legal department for a few months on a temporary contract and was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and working environment. I would recommend for anyone starting post education but even for those looking for something more stable.

Thank you for sharing your review. It is great to hear that you had a positive experience working with the legal department in London. We offer ample opportunities for interns, graduates and experienced hires. Professional development is extremely important at all stages of an individual’s career and at State Street, we provide many personal and professional growth opportunities. Thank you for taking the time to review your experience of working with us. It is great to know that you have enjoyed the time spent with us. Thank you for highlighting the learning opportunities — we have a wealth of training programs and as one of the leaders of financial services, we have multiple occasions to learn from industry experts.Equally important is our flexible work program — we have been supporting it for years and especially now, an established working from home capacity has been a huge plus.Good luck! Jack, Assistant Vice President, Global Services

Senior Management allow toxic environment to develop

Senior Management allow toxic environment to develop. Pretty hostile place to work under certain leaders. Too US centric if working in the UK. Favour certain types of staff over others.

Stress free and casual dress

We can dress casually and the work isnt stressful. A typical day includes answering client queries ad investigating issues. The workplace has a fun culture.

Thank you for your review. As a global organization, we provide flexible work arrangements like work from home or varied schedules to fit different requirements of our employees. It is also great to read that you have experienced our inclusive culture – we take pride in our diverse employee networks that make the workplace vibrant. This wouldn’t be possible without managers that fully support those activities and development of our employees.High volatility of the markets in the recent years requires that we are hyper efficient and cost focused – but as you mentioned, State Street makes all efforts to minimize downturns when it comes to employee well-being. Good luck with you career!Anna, Human Resources Manager

Fast paced, lots of politics, long hours, job insecurity.

Long days, fast paced and can be stressful due to deadlines and lack of resources/support from management. The office facilities are good, with own staff restaurant and coffee shop (although not discounted).

Pros

Depending on your job, possibility to occasionally work from home.

Cons

Cost cutting a major factor since the 2008 crash, so expected to take on more work for minor increase in salary. Off-shoring a key corporate strategy, so you dont feel secure even if you are performaing well. Top down communication is poor, and management is not very supportive as they are protecting themselves.

N.A

I have enjoyed working at State Street. The Company has a lovely ethic, whereby all staff are encouraged to share any ideas that they may have , to work as a team. I would thoroughly recommend working here, sad to leave.

Demanding but rewarding workplace

Trade floor support can always be challenging but as much as the user base can be demanding here they do treat the IT staff with respect which makes the job easier and more rewarding.

Not willing to elaborate

Fund accounting department was poorly managed. Staff turnover was high. hours were long pay was insufficient. but nice people on the whole. a stepping stone job into a fund.

Ok place to work

The work was manageable but going over and above was useless as you will not be recognised for it. The pay increases were pathetic. It was not in line with the standard of living and the CEO even knew that wages were poor. However the benefits are great at SS. WFH, medical, life insurance, etc.

Stressful atmosphere and

No HR to go to and the job was very stressful. nothing else to say really as there was nobody to go to for expressing my difficulties. I found the job really stressful as there was insufficient training to enable me to perform the duties they were asking. These were not mentioned in my job description.
