Back shift can be detrimental to your mental health, be prepared to rewire your weekly basis completely.
Great pay and support from the management, great levels of encouragement, cafeteria has good food. There is a LOT of learning, and stuff to remember. If you can multitask well and keep a lot of accurate information at the front of your mind this is a job for you.

Your experience will depend on what department you work in
I worked for SLC for many years, undertaking a number or roles within different directorates. My initial experience was a good one as everyone was friendly and approachable. There are always in house positions advertised and good opportunities to move to different roles and learn other aspects of the business, however, I would say these are side step opportunities, you have to be in the "in crowd" to progress up the ladder. The longer I was there the more I noticed good, hardworking and knowledgeable individuals being overlooked for roles they would have been great at for friends of those already in managerial positions, who admittedly didn't know the role or have the experience. Senior management build a culture of 'yes men/women' around them to make them look good and ensure they are not challenged. This is why they fill the roles with friends and inexperienced people they can mould and use as puppets when they don't want to put their names to things . Those who have a voice and will challenge them aren't progressed, regardless of their suitability to the role.As my review summary states, your experience will purely depend on the directorate you work under. Some offer great work life balance with real time flexi and are accommodating to things that can occur in everyday life. Other departments will micro manage every aspect of your day, treating you like a child who can't think for themselves. Every request you take to them will be met with a "no, it doesn't suit business needs" but is never backed with any evidence to show this. Basically, if they can make things difficult for you they will, then highlight you don't have a good attitude.Overall I would not recommend SLC as an employer - it either started off well and has went downhill over the years with poor management choices or it has always had this poor management culture and I was just naive to it!

Depends on department
Unless your face fits you have no chance of progressing. Management are on a power trip and never listen to staff views. Backshift is awful, dayshift seems asbolutely fine with different management. You are constantly watched. If you get along with anyone in the office they will do a new seating plan so you are not sat near to someone you get along with. Moral is non existent, staff are just unhappy. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

SLC review
SLC is a friendly work environment with help from managers if needed. Managers and team leaders are very helpful if you are struggling with calls. You will also meet friends for life.

Awful place to work
Company atmosphere is very poor, created and fed by inefficient and archaic management who are set in their ways. Every second of your day is monitored. Expect to be pulled into a preliminary discipline meeting of you spend more than 10 minutes per day walking to, using and walking back from the toilet.
