Competitive and unsupportive culture. Constantly changing management with a lack of consistency in approach. Business goals constantly changing. Incompetent upper tier management who get paid far too much in comparison to everyone else. Advancement and improvement in pay virtually impossible.

Avoid at all cost -tribble leadership

No room for development and only selected few gets a biased opportunity for a CPD. Every year they send out a survey and never focus on negative points given to them. They easily dissolve a department with the backing of HR and without suitable consultation in place so you mean nothing to them even if you worked several years and supported the organisation . Poor service management and people with no skills get the jobs they don't deserve ie operation manager become head of student experience !!!

Avoid at all costs

You are thrown into one of the most unprofessional and unstable companies out there; DO NOT DO IT EVEN IF YOU ARE DESPERATE FOR MONEY, THERE IS BETTER. From my first day it was clear there was no management. No one knew what was going on, the protocols that were being used were disgusting. No training will be provided, the management don't care about you or any team you are part of, they will not help you in the long run. The practices that were used by staff that had been there 10+ Years were those that were being used by people who would normally only be a week into training in their profession. The management will always praise you for working hard (being overworked) then do nothing to solve the situation and pretend like nothing is wrong. I could go on for hours about this. A lot of old time staff there are very toxic and have management wrapper round their fingers; will also do the bare minimum. If you like to work hard and do things right, this is not the place for you. If you want to do the bare minimum, be unsafe and be underappreciated, then this is the place for you! Good luck people.

Awfully terrible company! AVOID!

Don't waste your life away in the worst company in Brighton and surrounding cities. I wish Study Group sucked only in Brighton but just do some research, and you will find that they suck wherever they are! You will be overworked, underpaid and unappreciated every single day. NO training /support and NO personal development for admin staff. Promotion? Only through biased selection. Well connected people get the vacancies. It's a whom you know kinda place, nothing to do with merit or skills. A terrible and embedded blane culture which managers hide behind in order to have no accountability. Absolutely NO cover for staff sickness or holidays, your work will be there waiting for you til you return. HR and Payroll are useless and the most disorganised and disconnected departments I have ever seen! The only positive about Study Group is the location, nothing else!

Executive team venorated everywhere while staff languish on low salaries with no developement

I have been working at the Brighton office for some time. While the people who I work closely with are delightful, the company as a whole is a mess. Staff are low paid despite having enormously complex and important roles within the company. Worse, we are infantilised by managers with incentives like hmv vouchers and trips to lasertag. There is little or no progression, with almost every job advertised going to an outside hire, and the executive team wonder why job satisfaction as at 55%. Worst of all, the Global Executive Team force us to celebrate them at every opportunity, as though bringing Crispy Creme twice a year and handing out roses to women on International Women's Day will make up for the boring and fragmented lives we have to lead. Can't wait to find something new.

In need of transformation

The organisation needs transformation. There is a vision and understanding of what needs to be improved but no ownership of delivery. Also very top heavy organisation which treats frontline staff as an afterthought.

Pros

Lots of growth in the pipeline

Cons

Poor management and too many directors/heads of dept.

Bad management and low morale of staff

Worked for SG Brighton a while ago now as an education executive. The management team where very hands-off, instead relying on untrained and inexperienced mid-management to run the show. Examples of undervalued staff at every level and also terribly low salaries (note they rarely advertise the salaries offered!)

Cons

Bad management and poor pay

Constantly 'fire-fighting'

Very little in the way of training, or how to use the in-house systems properly. No time taken out to explain the effects of processing incorrect information until it actually happens. No-one willing to cover in the event of absence or holiday, and always last minute. Process notes non-existent. Would have been a great help, rather than just having to rely on a temp to make the volume of outstanding work look less than it actually is. One of the worst placements I have had assigned to me

Challenging work in a rewarding sector

Study Group is one of the best international higher education sector organisations in Brighton. There's none of the politics or drama you see with younger companies - senior colleagues aren't motivated by self-advancement but instead by the objectives of the business and its customers - the students. Staff here are encouraged to take responsibility for their own professional development, and seek opportunities to do so. The company supports its staff with this. Several members of the team I work in have come from other roles or areas of the business. The senior leadership team are approachable and capable, and conduct themselves professionally and intelligently. This means they are respected, and this professional respect goes down the chain, which contributes to good leadership across the board. Overall it's an enjoyable and rewarding place to work, with a great international company culture.

Pros

Subsidised canteen, pension, social events

Productive and diverse day at work

My typical day at work: managing reception team dealing with complaints improving systems to achieve ultimate customer satisfaction training staff meetings with key stakeholders improving data systems handling cash transactions and monthly banking meeting and greeting Visitors ensuring that stocks and systems are most up to date dealing with courier, post and switchboard operation creating various projects to improve operations being part of Staff Working Group, Health and Safety committee, Redundancy consultation group etc. No challenging parts of the day as everything is a learning curve or a nudge of how service could be improved. Most enjoyable part of the day working in such a diverse multicultural place where education is at its heart.

Pros

wonderful team

more staff development needed

Staff are lovely, friendly & sociable but not much chance of progression, they don't like to promote within

The staff are friendly & welcoming, the staff like to socialise with different departments. They don't like promoting within the company and will generally get new staff members instead

Pros

Good teams

Productive, fun place to work

Enjoyed the learning experience of a totally different business sector and found the MD and Executive Team a delight to work for. Everyone was very helpful and friendly making my time there as a temp, very enjoyable. Believe this to be a good place to work.
