Competitive and unsupportive culture. Constantly changing management with a lack of consistency in approach. Business goals constantly changing. Incompetent upper tier management who get paid far too much in comparison to everyone else. Advancement and improvement in pay virtually impossible.
This was one of the best jobs of my career. The role was fast paced, but that is education. It was really satisfying to have the interaction with and to help the students. The staff are lovely and everyone is supportive. You need to have a good level of skills and the ability to think for yourself, but the pay and job descriptions reflect that. The roles generally require a degree multi-tasking so you need to be able to manage your time effectively. The company is very people focused and my opinion really goes over and above to support staff however they can. If you have the skills required, you are a hard worker and student focused then don't hesitate to apply.
Great staff and good team ethos, Lots of training given, opportunities for career advancement., 25 days paid holiday PA
Great colleagues, students and managers. Well organised. Adapted well and swiftly to online delivery. Not sure if much scope for career progression. Sessional contracts don't seem to be as insecure as they sound.
We are very well looked after - taken out, appreciated and a kitchen stocked with food and hot drinks.
You are thrown into one of the most unprofessional and unstable companies out there; DO NOT DO IT EVEN IF YOU ARE DESPERATE FOR MONEY, THERE IS BETTER. From my first day it was clear there was no management. No one knew what was going on, the protocols that were being used were disgusting. No training will be provided, the management don't care about you or any team you are part of, they will not help you in the long run. The practices that were used by staff that had been there 10+ Years were those that were being used by people who would normally only be a week into training in their profession. The management will always praise you for working hard (being overworked) then do nothing to solve the situation and pretend like nothing is wrong. I could go on for hours about this. A lot of old time staff there are very toxic and have management wrapper round their fingers; will also do the bare minimum. If you like to work hard and do things right, this is not the place for you. If you want to do the bare minimum, be unsafe and be underappreciated, then this is the place for you! Good luck people.
Don't waste your life away in the worst company in Brighton and surrounding cities. I wish Study Group sucked only in Brighton but just do some research, and you will find that they suck wherever they are! You will be overworked, underpaid and unappreciated every single day. NO training /support and NO personal development for admin staff. Promotion? Only through biased selection. Well connected people get the vacancies. It's a whom you know kinda place, nothing to do with merit or skills. A terrible and embedded blane culture which managers hide behind in order to have no accountability. Absolutely NO cover for staff sickness or holidays, your work will be there waiting for you til you return. HR and Payroll are useless and the most disorganised and disconnected departments I have ever seen! The only positive about Study Group is the location, nothing else!
DO NOT APPLY! Any other job you apply for, will be better than this one - trust me! You will be overworked, underpaid and unappreciated every single day. Study Group is one of the best international higher education sector organisations in Brighton. There's none of the politics or drama you see with younger companies - senior colleagues aren't motivated by self-advancement but instead by the objectives of the business and its customers - the students. Staff here are encouraged to take responsibility for their own professional development, and seek opportunities to do so. The company supports its staff with this. Several members of the team I work in have come from other roles or areas of the business. The senior leadership team are approachable and capable, and conduct themselves professionally and intelligently. This means they are respected, and this professional respect goes down the chain, which contributes to good leadership across the board. Overall it's an enjoyable and rewarding place to work, with a great international company culture.
