Underpaid, poor management
Sandwich Artist (Former Employee) - Long Eaton, Derbyshire - 4 June 2023
Underpaid for high standards as well as needing to train staff for minimum pay, owner is rude and disrespectful, I would often ask for more shifts but would never get them often sent home earlier because there would be no work, no staff room or place to have a break, forced to keep shop open even after running out of bread, also high turnover is a clear example of how badly the shop is managed

High work load low pay
Sandwich Artist (Current Employee) - Huyton, Merseyside - 2 June 2023
Falsely advertised pay, was only informed of the real wage when I got the job and at that the pay is far too low for the stress. Honestly just don't work here unless you've got little to no options left
Pros
Discounted lunch
Cons
Pay

Awful
Sandwich Artist (Former Employee) - Shrewsbury - 1 June 2023
The franchise owner was awful and really rude would barley speak to you when he came in to the stores. Most of the managers where lazy always leaving early just because they wanted to apart from one who was really nice and hard working. Don’t believe it when they say it’s free food on shift it’s literally all the left over cookies from through out the day.

Sandwich artist
Sandwich Artist (Current Employee) - Whitefield - 30 May 2023
I work under EG garages. I work for subway and I have for a year and a half. It is horrible. They force you to work even when they know you have prior engagements ( even with weeks/months notice ). Talked down to. Not appricated. for the sake of your time and mental health. Do not try to work here. All subways are very understaffed and it's clear why.
Pros
Free food.
Cons
Long hours. Unwanted shifts. Poor management

My experience
Sandwich Artist (Former Employee) - Bitterne, Hampshire - 30 May 2023
Not all subways are the same as they were franchised. However, the one I was in, I was on my own 90% of the time. This meant that I was unable to take any breaks. When there was others, it was for the lunchtime rush so I couldn't have a break then. There were no perks to working there.

Understaffed
Sandwich Artist (Former Employee) - Glasgow, Glasgow - 30 May 2023
Constantly understaffed. Will depend on owner to owner. Fast paced and had to do a lot of things on your own. Was made supervisor to cover manager when he was absent for a long period of ilness so was essentially managing without the pay

Jobs at Subway
Awful

Pay is minimum wage. Total joke. Make u work the same as everyone else but u get less pay. The kitchen is smaller than a dogs house. Everyone is friendly though

Decent first job/leapfrog
Team Leader/Supervisor (Former Employee) - Wilmslow - 29 May 2023
Originally worked in a quiet shop which was relaxed, but challenging and energetic in the lunch rush. Worked alongside studies which was well accommodated. Pay was not ideal at under 18 but has since been met to 18 minimum at least. Staff were very friendly. Post-covid, staff cuts meant increased workload without increased pay or fairer conditions, so retention was poor. Would be very careful to work here as each store works differently. Most employees in my time had come through personal connections. Perhaps make sure you’re a union member.
Pros
Free standard meal for lunch (varies by store), hours somewhat flexible
Cons
Likely always on Lunch rush, pay below living wage

Good
Sandwich artist (Current Employee) - Solihull - 28 May 2023
It’s a decent place to work especially as a first job. Pay isn’t great is min wage but 0 hour contract means good work life balance and days off when you need them.

It's decent for a minimum wage job
Sandwich Artist (Former Employee) - Southport - 26 May 2023
It's a decent place to work, my main issues would be subway HQ are a little unreliable and stock supply issues resulting in poor customer experiences. The franchise I work for is great, my manager is great. The manager deserves more pay for the work that they do. Im just posting this review to see other reviews that are hidden.
Pros
Great manager and staff
Cons
Not enough hours, low pay, rushes are stressful, expensive staff meal

Okayish environment
Chef (Former Employee) - Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh - 24 May 2023
Good pay and you meet a wide selection of people good and bad just like at any place. It’s not really a stressful environment but you do get a rush here and there

It's alright
Sandwich artist (Former Employee) - Elgin - 24 May 2023
It's an alright place to work but there's a painfully obvious division between the team and the managers so for the most part expect to be running the entire line with just two of you during peak hours

if only my francisee would be better
Sandwich Artist (Current Employee) - Aberystwyth - 24 May 2023
It is fine working in Subway, in a typical day you will either be baking up a storm (during the mornings), preparing food (mid-day) or serving people. If you are unlucky you will have the night-shifts where I was, you will be delegated at the clean-up crew washing up all the leftovers your coworkers couldn't (of course with the hidden benefit of you being able to take as much overtime as it is required while all the others have to leave when they are done). Apply to work for Subway only if you can just talk to your sandwich artists beforehand and get to know what the local culture is since you will be spending about a month learning and getting used to the place before the true colors of the workplace shows itself. Based on this, your experience will vary from mine but in general you will be fine working here, Subway provides a decent minimum pay with about 7-15 hours part time and 20-40 full time, only thing that can make your experience better is engaging with your coworker and customers. Don't expect to relax all the time since your relaxation will lead to more stuff being left-over for the closers but at the same time try not just being a robot when serving, that is just not fun
Pros
possibly flexible scheduling
Cons
benefits highly dependent on the rules of the franchisee

was bad now decent
Sandwich Artist (Current Employee) - Hailsham, East Sussex - 23 May 2023
used to be horrible as co-workers was awful people but they’re all slowly quitting, one more and i’ll call it good. the work itself is easy and the free food supports both cut and bulk.

Long and repetitive
Assistant Manager (Current Employee) - Sheffield - 18 May 2023
Can be a fun job but can be repetitive and working with customers all day every day can be frustrating. Having good managers is a must as they can make the job harder.
