I worked for Swinton for nearly 30 years and throughout that time there have been a lot of changes so to review would be very difficult. I no longer work for them as I took redundancy.

Swindon was a great place to work at first, then when you realise that they trained you to miss sell products, they get caught, then they take it out on you and your staff. This company rewarded its bosses who destroyed its staffs lives with golden handshakes while the staff where left to rot and stress over there own job security.I can never forgive an employer who made me manage good quality and knowledgeable staff out for refusing to sell products to people who didn’t want them.
Pros
None
Cons
Ripped off hundreds of thousands of people

During my time at Swinton I have been able to do a number of roles and manage branches across the Midlands. If the company was not closing all of their customer facing branches then I would still choose to work there.

Swinton closed 130 branches in 2016 and a further 84 in 2017 are planned. Overall it is a great place to work but due to the increasing amount of people buying their insurance online the job security in the branch is concerning. The focus for Swinton now is online and at their contact centre
Pros
good wages good hours good bonus
Cons
job security if your in a branch

A good place to work for many years, I worked in the branch network providing a personal service to many diverse customers looking for car or home insurance. In the last couple of years they have moved away from a sales machine to a more customer focused organisation which was definitely the right thing to do & it became a more enjoyable job, but they have introduced change after change after change, including a new platform which has not worked from day one, became frustrating & embarrassing the amount of apologising to customers I had to do daily, it really hit morale within the branch network & they have closed many branches with a number of redundancies, Swinton will always be around as an insurance player but the way people buy insurance has changed fundamentally so unfortunately the branch network will not survive & they will operate as an online insurance provider backed by a call centre.
Pros
Branch employees care about each other. Salary
Cons
too many changes & IT systems don't work

You will never be appreciated by this company unless you end up with a really good area/manager and with the recent structure change this will be unlikely! You are expected to hit certain sales targets but these are supposedly not 'targets' but objectives, but you will lose out on your medico quarterly bonus if you don't hit them, regardless of how much other support or work you put in. They do not give you the tools you need to be able to do this job, so only apply if you are able to use 10+ applications at the same time for simple customer queries!
Pros
Amazing bunch of people and amazing area manager.
Cons
On a flex contract but to companies benefit not yours. long hours, no progression, if your face dont fit you wont last long
