What is the interview process like at Swissport International Ltd.?
So I applied on a Tuesday morning, and 2 hours later got an email inviting me for an interview on Thursday. I prepared as best I could considering that I had my final exam for a full-time language course i had been doing since September on Wednesday. So, on Thursday I arrived at the Swissport building 2 hours early because I was using public transport and it was at a remote location (plus I like to be organised and make things easy for myself and I knew I'd probably have to factor in time to find the building too). Despite being super early, the interviewer had time and said they could interview me. So we went in the interviewing room and they had a lot of papers with scripted questions on them. They first asked me the fundamentals such as: "do you have a criminal record" etc. Then they proceeded to ask me around 3 ish scripted questions from their sheet of paper about: what I know about the aviation industry (which I think I answered quite poorly ngl). what good customer service is to me and if I could give an example of when I did provided good customer service a time when I had to do something at work which was difficult but right to do. The interviewer then said that they really disliked the scripted questions that Swissport gave them and they just went offscript and continued to talk to me about how they themselves had been at Swissport for only 2 months and how the colleagues could be difficult and how being a customer service agent was really difficult and extremely fast paced... during this off the script verbal essay about the role that the interviewer was giving me, I would kindly interrupt a few times and talk about how my past experiences and subsequent skills related to what she was saying about the job and how they adequately set me up for the job... i also promised the interviewer that I'd work extremely hard to learn all the company's procedures to better align myself with Swissport's mission statement and that I had the confidence to make that promise because I had just taken out a gap year after my A levels to learn a new language full time (which is very intense), to which they said "now that's what I like to hear!"..eventually they left the room to scan my passport... when they returned eventhough the interviewer wasnt really asking me any questions because of how they had completely disregarded the scripted questions , I would say: "I'd also like to add that..." and I'd continue talking about my experience and skills (trying to match the job description ofc) and how they'd make me great for the job ( since i wasn't expecting it to become so unscripted, at this point I felt I was just randomly blurting out my experience and skills because I was desperate to sell myself lol and to say everything that I had prepared to say)... I didn't think I would've gotten the job, maybe my personal pessimism, idk, but I just felt like towards the end I was randomly saying things about my experience and skills (that I had prepared under the assumption that id be asked lots of scripted questions) to sell myself lol. But next day got a call saying we'd like to offer you the job... I've got my "security interview" in a few days where I need to fill in some forms and bring my passport again so I can get authorisation to work at the airport. Note: if you prepare well, demonstrate your enthusiasm, and how hard you'll work to learn all that there is to learn and demonstrate how you fit the job criteria, you should be fine. Above all, be friendly and lively (which I tried to be). I did think the interview was a bit all over the place in the immediate aftermath because of how unscripted it became but I clearly did something right and Thank God He gave me the job! If you don't get it, of course that feeling of rejection can be a little difficult at times to deal with but it just means it wasn't meant for you.Asked 15 May 2019
