Hard work-good money

Helpful drivers regarding routes and farm locations. Plenty of time training on routes if required. Approachable office and management. Long days and rural driving but you are compensated as decent money. All hours paid including ot and breaks. Wages never wrong. Nice shift pattern

Wages always penny accurate. Drivers and office know their stuff, happy to show you until you find your feet

Long hours, the job has to be covered regardless (nothing illegal, you will get paid the ot)

Pro's & Cons

New driver - no experience and not sure what to expect.Quite literally thrown in at deep-end induction was poor any management follow-up only seems to happen when something goes wrong. No information provided about delivery points and the different processes required. The experienced drivers are really good at helping out if they can.Lockerbie is poor and it seems much better at other depots. Lockerbie very much us and them - seems quite chaotic at times and unorganised with no ownership taken or checks made or clear instruction/guidance given. The yard is poorly maintained particularly during the day, vehicles are largely unclean and unkempt with defects not being attended to when reported. However the variety of work is good if you want it to be and you are left alone when you are away from the yard.

Good for new drivers if you are ok about asking for help, Experienced drivers are good at giving information, Depots other than Lockerbie, Variety of work.

No ownership of anything that needs sorted, Management posted missing most of the time, Them and us culture at Lockerbie, Salary not competitive

Not fun no banter no office to driver relationship. It obvious that drivers are people on the other side if the hatch.

The driver to management relationship was poor, no one speaks to you unless they want something, just incase they are seen to be "getting too friendly". Recently there was a long awaited pay rise being pushed by the management but really it was a new contract we were signing for, which was only suiting the company and was not any good for the drivers, less hours less holidays etc. This was sorted eventually after weeks of not knowing , very poor. The new starts get this new contract.About 20+ drivers left in a month before the pay rise, mainly because of low wages and a poor office to driver relationship. Also the variable start times during the week which can be 6 hours apart day to day and also totally different jobs from day to day so you never really get settled into a specific job, and therefore your home life is never settled, they are not interested in that. During covid the lack of PPE was obvious and drivers supplied their own to stay safe, very poor. The lorries are usually dirty inside, at best, unless the previous driver was fussy and cleaned it, but there is no company policy enforcing cab cleanliness inside or out, so during covid confidence in driver peronal welbeing was nil, especially if you had to stay out overnight in these lorries with no PPE. The good points of driving for TP Niven Ltd Lockerbie is that it is relaxed most of the time and you are left to get on with the job with no hassel over the phone. No drivers no wonder.

Working atmosphere is not nice.

Shocking management and organisation

Very disorganised, poor pay, no set runs or shifts, think your coming in for a run then gets changed last minute. No loyalty to hard working staff. Management don’t have a clue. Poorly maintained fleet. Would not recommend.

Poor pay, disorganised.

Great team of people

Ideal job for anyone looking for a good salary. Ex farm collection night drivers are currently on a basic 35,000 Rotas are 5 on 3 off so options for Extra shift working and still maintaining drivers hours legislation. Shame the customer involve themselves in the hiring of staff, very much a face that fits situation, dont disagree with the customer or your out of work that day. Nivens will show support, however, will back down to show you the door as soon as they can.
