Great place and people

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Dirty environment but an excellent place to learn. The people are fantastic and are willing to help. Pay is on the lower side compared to other companies and progression may be difficult depending on who is in those job roles.

Don’t work for subcontractors

Don’t work for any sun contractors, they expect you to slave around after Tata employees to make the management look good while receiving quite dreadful pay for the work you are required to do.Also the work environment is not healthy at all they give you ppe but it only reduces your chances of getting sick or long term illnesses including cancer. The flexibility was good where you could worth mon-fri and choose wether you work 8/10/12 hour shifts on the day was really good.Your vehicle gets dirty and it does damage your paintwork which will be costly to sort out plus any interior stains from dust or substances.Management only care about one thing and that’s making sure their targets are achieved and don’t take peoples needs and mental well-being in to consideration. Most of the sub contractor jobs and Tata jobs will be gone within the next 3-4 years so if you are thinking of obtaining a “career” here I wouldn’t risk it as the new arc furnaces coming in will reduce the workforce by at least half. The best thing about working here was the social life as there is a vast amount of people working here it’s quite easy to make friends.

Pros

Friendly employees, flexible shifts

Cons

Pay, health and safety risks, pay, no job stability

Great place to learn.

Lots happening all the time both positive and negative but made it a great place to learn and progress. Quite a high staff turnover but not a great location or glamorous industry.

Awful

Horrible place to work management don’t listen. You get treated like rubbish. The pay isn’t fair as you only get paid for certain machines and no way of progressing.

Fair employer, secure employment

The culture makes you feel part of a team. I make good progress with further education, but opportunities to advance were limited. Salaries aren't quite market leading.

Pros

Feel valued as part of a team, great training opportunities

Cons

Limited advancement

Very pleasurable experience

What is the best part of working at the company?Friendly Team Spirit, Very Strong On Safety, Everyone Highly Skilled, Generally a pleasure to work there, no stress or pressure to complete tasks quicker by bypassing safe working methods. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Having to close and go home leaving work friends. There’s nothing stressful in working at TATA as long as you know your limitations within your skills sector. What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Office well organised, happy and friendly with everyone welcome from visitors and site personnel.Site extremely large area so a lot of walking, the areas are dusty, hot and noisy but fully expected due to the nature of the industry however the site is very safe with safety being the most important agenda on everyone’s minds. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Was previous night shifts progress and safety briefing first thing on arrival then contractors safety meeting along with permits to work discussions, then throughout the day monitoring safety on all site areas, chasing materials, checking quality of workmanship, answering queries, then finally preparing hand over progress reports.
