Decent workplace for students

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Unsociable hours but good pay for fairly easy work. Fast paced during busy hours, good opportunities to work as many or as little hours as you want to.

Decent

It was alright but wouldn’t advise due to the fact that there is a lot of back biting and managers not knowing how to talk to people. If I could go back I’d probably work for Sainsburys

Busy

Fast paced and busy, it is not a bad place to work but management always expect more than you can do.Most colleagues are friendly and helpful though.

Great place to work

Hours are obviously part time ,but You always have loads of opportunities to do overtimes, happy with Managers. They are always there to support you and adjust yours shift . Soo you can be flexible with Hours and go on with your private life.Always receiving good amount of respect and communication. Must say I am enjoying my work place ,sometimes can be boring cause You doing the same stuff but overall it's a happy friendly environment 😊

Good Pay.

Tesco offers great pay and a good benefits package. It lacks in flexibility with shifts which to some people may be good. Contracted hours means consistent pay and reliable work.

Pros

Set shifts, good paid, good breaks.

Cons

Not the best at flexibility.

It’s not as easy as you think.

Tesco offers flexible working hours but it’s not always possible due to staffing issues. It is fast paced and constantly moving from one job to another. There’s always something to be done, from stock replenishment, cleaning, safe and legal routines to serving customers on tills. Often there are staffing issues and you have to be doing more than 1 duty at the same time this is often working stock and attending to customers at the tills. It’s not always fun and can be very stressful and can feel unsupported as a team. There will be people you enjoy working with and people you don’t. There is often changes in Management and Customer Assistants which impacts the overall running of the store and it’s people.

So-so.

I had a mixed experience here. It was alright when I was there, the majority of people were mostly chilled with things but I've heard it's changed alot for the worse now. The shop floor was incredibly gossipy and cliquey with a few bad eggs that would dominate things, I felt like an outsider on the shop floor departments/aisles because of how they'd turn their nose up at you. Others on the aisles would try and get brownie points by tattling on you to management if you took too long to get your cages done but say nothing about some favourites that occasionally left their cages for others. The experience with management would depend upon who you had for your department; some were stuck up and difficult while others would be nice.

Pros

Nice people on some departments.

Cons

The need for a stellar memory if on shop floor, cliquishness.

Very flexible

Very flexible working hours, nice environment, everyone is very friendly. Overtime always available in various departments. Good chances to develop a career in sales.

Sales assistant

Fast paced. Colleagues are friendly. Bad thing is if you are on a flexible contract they will expect you to come in even if you aren't free. Comfy uniform

Good wage, fairly average tasks. Make so many friends, really good if you are a student as there is a lot of young people there.

So fun, if you are younger try not to work in smaller Tesco's. Tesco Extra's full of younger people so much fun. Management is horrible though. You have to be a teacher's pet to be liked by management.

Productive and fast pace work place

Fast paced, always busy. Definitely a good job for someone who likes to be busy and on the go. Management and all of the staff were lovely. Hardest part of the job was the long hours. The most enjoyable part of the job is having a laugh with the staff

Pros

Easy

Cons

Long hours

Good for a short stint

I enjoyed my time at Tesco because of my colleagues, and the variety of roles I took on, a typical day ranged from being on tills, to working on the shop floor, to the petrol station - but I struggled with the lack of advancement I was offered. It filled a gap for me between school, uni and figuring out what I want to do, but I may have stayed if I felt i could have worked my way up and developed there.

Pros

good colleagues, not bad pay, flexible hours

Cons

unpredictable hours, management not ideal, struggled to take my accrued holidays, no progression

Stress

Is a very Stressful environment, always the mangers try push on you to do more and more. You will become a robot to fill the store shelves if not you will be criticised.Poor management, huge lack of communication and trust. My experience wasn’t good, hopefully the others will be different

Pros

Discount

Cons

Everything
