Fun for a bit of light summer work - camps are challenging
Culture is really positive you will meet lots very inspirational people - on a good camp there competent well trained staff and the experience will be a tough but fun one. Some camps may be understaffed, less helpful teams or with less experienced colleagues etc and this is much more difficult. However camps only last 5 days max so you'll be fine - also if your a good experienced leader make the camp work for you why not. Just being there camping lifestyle is worthwhile stay onsite between camps to make the most of it and new friends. Be aware it is hard work outdoors and very muddy - its not for everyone.
Activities Assistant in near oxford
hard work, no security, not looked after
the work itself is fun but the living conditions we had near oxford were appalling, the drinking water was not pernament and sometimes we had a couple of days of no water, just two porterloos for all of the residentual staff, one porter shower, no one was responsible for cleaning it so after a couple of days it was nasty. no support from managers, some weeks you could work 7 days some weeks you would have no work so no job security.
Camp Leader/ Activity Instructor in Charlbury and Finstock
Outdoors job difficult but fun
Working for the Bushcraft company can be very rewarding and fun, esspecially if you live on site and make friends with your co workers.
A standard day is 24hr child managment as even when sleeping you are responsible for their welbeing and behaviour. This can create a very difficult and stressful enviroment esspecially in bad weather.
But if you love the outdoors and want to work with children this is a great job. But it is hard work and offten unacnoledged by the managment in the office. They will often ask for workers to put their own wellbeing in jepordy to ensure camps that should not be running due to lack of staff continue on even with unsatisfactory quality for student and teachers.
Pay does not reflect ability, skill or training. And it does not represent the 24hrs and up to 5 days per week of a standard course.
Estate Logistics in Oxfordshire
Good culture, constantly meeting new people, getting to go home at night is a bonus as part of logistics, but the fine print is that they could send you to any site around the country and you can't say no, site manager was young, regional manager was very good to work with, flexible and accommodating.
Tribe leader (group leader) and field cook in London, Greater London
One of the greatest jobs I ever had. If you are outdoorsy and are good with children it’s a perfect opportunity.
Fantastic place to work for. If you like working outdoors sleeping by a fire, being responsible for teaching kids the importance of nature then it’s a perfect place to be. Loved every minute of it. If it wasn’t seasonal I would probably still be there.
