Control Room Operator in London, Greater London
on 21 January 2022
City of London Corporation typical Local Gov job

Decent salary for what I was doing (control room CCTV tourist info switchboard court officer - I moved a bit between the jobs) Colleagues great especially the old guard. Made we feel welcomed even though I came from immigrant background. Middle management terrible and lazy as in most council government jobs. Interested in doing nothing and especially not being responsible for anything. Bit of nepotism and office politics. All in all worth if for the money and rather relaxed work load compared to the private sector job.

Ok for a while

Ok for a short time, but not for a career. You have access to some place for free and you learn things about the city, but there are not career plans in place.

Business Administration Apprentice in London
on 4 March 2020
Good place to do an apprenticeship

Very friendly staff and management. Felt welcomed and supported throughout my time there.

I was doing an apprenticeship so I found it difficult living off a low wage whilst living in London. But I guess that would be the same anywhere as apprentice wages are generally poor.

The job itself was really good with plenty of support and freedom to learn and develop in areas that I was interested in. Can't really fault anything about it, they have a good structure in place for apprentices.

worked mostly using my own initiative

Rather than city of london to advertise for more supervisory jobs internally they always advertised and took on staff externally so the was no real opportunity for applying for more senior jobs
