Busy but enjoyable

Indeed featured review

Customers were rude but that’s to do with the location. Cashless cafe so people get moody at you. Staff are nice and a fun place to work as you’re pretty much always doing something different

Great company to work for!

Coming from a background of restaurants and bars, Cornish Bakery has given me work life balance like I’ve never known before. I can manage my personal life whilst getting all the support needed to be a success in my professional life. It feels like a family here and you really feel like yourself and opinion matters. Not many companies you can have a laugh and a chat with the owner, or give him ideas and opinions he relishes in hearing. Thank you for my forever job

Pros

Management, work life balance, traditional buisness

Cons

I love my job with Cornish Bakery!

I’ve worked with Cornish Bakery for 18 months and love my job. The support I’ve had from my Area Manager has been second to none - he’s always so positive and encouraging. The owner himself tries to visit a few times of the year and always has time to listen to your feedback. You do get the impression that he genuinely wants his teams to be happy and fulfilled in their work. I work in a busy tourist village where the days can be very intense but as long as you have the right work ethic and enjoy dealing with the general public and working as part of a time, then I can’t recommend the job highly enough.Training is very good and support for new team members is in place and there are lots of opportunities for development and promotion if you work hard, show passion and have a positive attitude. The more you put in, the more you get out. Cornish Bakery are passionate about delivering great customer service and top quality coffee and food products - many of which being made in-house.Many of the food items that are bought in are as authentic as they can be ie) pasties made in Cornwall, Pastel De Nata’s made in Portugal.

Pros

50% discount available, good team spirit, strong company values.

Best job I've ever had 100%

I've worked here for 4 years, I started as a part time team member and worked my way up to bakery manager. The opportunities I've had over the years has been fantastic and I can't wait to see what I'll do next within the company.I've done things I never dreamed I could do. I've grown so much since starting and that's down to being allowed to grow and the company giving me chances too. The atmosphere on the bakery floor is infectious and can be a real giggle while you're busy getting jobs done. I would highly recommend this job if you want a long stay career as the sky is the limit if you have the drive and passion and want to be part of something amazing. Best job I've ever had 100%

Pros

50% off Free coffee and cold drinks.

Be prepared for what you sign up for…

At first, the on-site training and team were amazing…it’s only when we opened the doors to the public it all went downhill. I applied for a team member role and got defaulted to kitchen porter, working 8-9 hours a day cleaning cups, cutlery and emptying bins etc. after raising concerns, I was fired and made out to be an non team player. I honestly can not recommend this job after the experience I had.

Pros

Nice Atmosphere

Cons

Not the job you apply for

Stressful and intense workplace

You can be an ace team and break records, working above and beyond, but the rewards are non existent. They won't increase your teams core work hours and don't really care about them. We barely have time to clean tables, toilets and work areas. The employees on prep have no time to finish their tasks, and are expected to do even more. Despite having an award in best to work for, it's all about sales with this company. They push people to breaking points and create a hostile work environment if you speak up.Training is all online. And any new information added is only given to new employees. On another note, dealing with customers here is intense and you will deal with MANY rude and disrespectful Customers.

Pros

None.

Cons

All of it.

Awful

Contracted 40 hours, regularly worked 70 plus without any additional pay. Severely short staffed, overworked, disgusting working conditions, everything broken, no standards, no support from higher management, ridiculous expectations, literally ruined my personal relationships as I was so stressed and depressed, sometimes was there until 10pm when I was meant to finish at 6pm as we were so short staffed I had to work alone half the time.

Pros

Small staff discount

Cons

Long hours, bad pay, overworked, no work life balance

Deceptive Values and Disappointing Work Experience

Working at the Cornish Bakery was a huge letdown, as the company's supposed "values" turned out to be nothing but a smokescreen for their deceptive practices. From day one, it was clear that the emphasis on these values was a tactic to manipulate both employees and customers. The bakery touted its values of "quality" and "authenticity," yet in reality, corners were consistently cut to save costs. Every night you have to close the shop on your own because you suppose to save money on the budget, cut staff of quiet etcetc Ingredients were often of subpar quality, compromising the very taste and authenticity they claimed to uphold. This was not only disappointing but also felt like a betrayal of the company's own ideals. The management's hypocrisy (the area manager mainly) was on full display as well. They preached about "teamwork" and "open communication," but any attempt to address concerns or provide feedback was met with dismissive attitudes and resistance. It became evident that their values were merely a facade to maintain a positive image, while internally, they had no interest in fostering a healthy work environment. What truly earned the bakery the title of "snakes" was their manipulative approach to interactions with employees. They would frequently promise growth opportunities and recognition for hard work, but these promises remained empty as time went on. Many colleagues found themselves stuck in the same roles without any advancement, despite their dedication and efforts. In conclusion, the Cornish Bakery's values are nothing more than a smokescreen for their deceptive -

Rewarding and supportive

Working for Cornish Bakery has been the most rewarding job I've done. They have a lot of support in place from every aspect of the job. The owner and directors know almost all colleagues by name which shows how much they care about the teams.

Great atmosphere and great hard working team

Amazing team who are there to support you every step of the way!

From day one you feel part of the family! No amount of questions is too many and no question is silly. I felt 100% supported from the second I started from a team of passionate, dedicated and friendly people. There are clear expectations of my role but with an in depth induction in place to help support me to fully understand how I can beat achieve this. The company is ambitious, competitive and a fun place to work who ALWAYS put their people first.

Pros

Supportive, fun

Friendly, motivating and fun.

I am currently employed as the assistant manager at Cornish Bakery. I work in a fast pace environment with a fantastic team who are fun, kind and supportive. Together we all strive to achieve our goals and encourage each other to do our best at all times. Even though it’s busy, we all still manage to have fun. The company has very good values and upholds them and ensures that the staff do as well, which results in a healthy workplace. I have a family and they are more than happy to support my work/home life balance!

Good on paper but in reality....

They say all the right things and from the outside appear to be a good place to work, but in reality not much better than any fast food chain. The people focused values that are preached are lost somewhere between the board room and the stores. If you like being understaffed, overworked and underpaid, then jump in. The work is unfulfilling and repetitive, while the pay is low and the benefits are poor. It gets worse the higher up you get, as the responsibility stacks but the pay does not really increase. They used to be a small, fun company that valued it's staff, but they have grown into a money hungry chain. I don't doubt that the owner believes the values of the company, but the corporate team at head office prevent this from being realised through constant profiteering at any cost.If you want to work in a fast food chain where you are undervalued, McDonalds pay more.

Pros

50% off food, free hot drinks

Cons

Understaffed. Overworked. Repetitive. No overtime pay or lieu time for salaried staff.

Gratifying and smooth running.

As an 18 year old, first time employee i had an appropriate interview with a friendly and welcoming manager. All staff are lovely to be around and pleasant towards customers and other staff members. All of the management team and team leaders are communicative and work well together to run an established work environment.

Pros

overtime hours. free lunches. discount within the shopping centre.

Engaging, full of culture great opportunities and your voice is heard

World class welcome, great supporting tools everyone welcoming, made me feel I belong here. Everyone takes the time to help and offer support and guidance across all levels, brilliant to meet and talk to the senior leadership team within just my first few days added a wow factor,

Pros

Great offerings to choose for lunch.

I was not treated equally, one of the staff was rude to me and to all.

As a team member you would be getting each day different tasks. But in my case I had to work in kitchen porter most of my shifts, they hardly given service. But some other staff would get service most. Which is not fair, very bad management. Not respectful head barista.

Decent place to work.

Nice enough place to work. Pretty straightforward tasks, good products. Hours are fairly sociable compared to lots of hospitality. Okay but not outstanding pay, very flexible in terms of time off though.

Pros

Easy work, sociable hours.

Cons

Pay could be better, precarious contract, but that's everywhere to be honest.

Amazing place to work

Love the people and atmosphere. My manager makes me feel safe and as though my opinions really do matter in the workplace. I haven’t had that anywhere else so it is extremely refreshing

Progressive Bakery

Transitioning from a different area of work and living area I have felt nothing but support from the management and staff. I have been impressed with the amount of knowledge and support from higher management and within the team. Work life balance... What can I say?! It is great. Previous places of work; especially in the peak periods, I have been asked to work a crazy amount of hours. Here, you must have your rest days and breaks. You can even ask for them together or split! Managent are quick to respond to anything needed within the workplace or personally. Mental health support at this company is second to none! It truly is a proactive and progressive company to work for with customers and staff at the forefront of their ethics.

Pros

Work life balance

Cons

Nothing
