Great company to work for!
Manager (Current Employee) - Chichester City Centre, West Sussex - 18 September 2023
Coming from a background of restaurants and bars, Cornish Bakery has given me work life balance like I’ve never known before. I can manage my personal life whilst getting all the support needed to be a success in my professional life. It feels like a family here and you really feel like yourself and opinion matters. Not many companies you can have a laugh and a chat with the owner, or give him ideas and opinions he relishes in hearing. Thank you for my forever job
Pros
Management, work life balance, traditional buisness
Cons

I love my job with Cornish Bakery!
Bakery Manager (Current Employee) - Bourton on the Water, Gloucestershire - 18 September 2023
I’ve worked with Cornish Bakery for 18 months and love my job. The support I’ve had from my Area Manager has been second to none - he’s always so positive and encouraging. The owner himself tries to visit a few times of the year and always has time to listen to your feedback. You do get the impression that he genuinely wants his teams to be happy and fulfilled in their work. I work in a busy tourist village where the days can be very intense but as long as you have the right work ethic and enjoy dealing with the general public and working as part of a time, then I can’t recommend the job highly enough. Training is very good and support for new team members is in place and there are lots of opportunities for development and promotion if you work hard, show passion and have a positive attitude. The more you put in, the more you get out. Cornish Bakery are passionate about delivering great customer service and top quality coffee and food products - many of which being made in-house. Many of the food items that are bought in are as authentic as they can be ie) pasties made in Cornwall, Pastel De Nata’s made in Portugal.
Pros
50% discount available, good team spirit, strong company values.

Best job I've ever had 100%
Bakery Manager (Current Employee) - Whitby, North Yorkshire - 17 September 2023
I've worked here for 4 years, I started as a part time team member and worked my way up to bakery manager. The opportunities I've had over the years has been fantastic and I can't wait to see what I'll do next within the company. I've done things I never dreamed I could do. I've grown so much since starting and that's down to being allowed to grow and the company giving me chances too. The atmosphere on the bakery floor is infectious and can be a real giggle while you're busy getting jobs done. I would highly recommend this job if you want a long stay career as the sky is the limit if you have the drive and passion and want to be part of something amazing. Best job I've ever had 100%
Pros
50% off Free coffee and cold drinks.

Awful
Bakery Manager (Former Employee) - England - 5 September 2023
Contracted 40 hours, regularly worked 70 plus without any additional pay. Severely short staffed, overworked, disgusting working conditions, everything broken, no standards, no support from higher management, ridiculous expectations, literally ruined my personal relationships as I was so stressed and depressed, sometimes was there until 10pm when I was meant to finish at 6pm as we were so short staffed I had to work alone half the time.
Pros
Small staff discount
Cons
Long hours, bad pay, overworked, no work life balance

Amazing team who are there to support you every step of the way!
Area Manager (Current Employee) - Paulton, Somerset - 27 July 2023
From day one you feel part of the family! No amount of questions is too many and no question is silly. I felt 100% supported from the second I started from a team of passionate, dedicated and friendly people. There are clear expectations of my role but with an in depth induction in place to help support me to fully understand how I can beat achieve this. The company is ambitious, competitive and a fun place to work who ALWAYS put their people first.
Pros
Supportive, fun

Love the people and atmosphere. My manager makes me feel safe and as though my opinions really do matter in the workplace. I haven’t had that anywhere else so it is extremely refreshing

Progressive Bakery
Store Manager (Current Employee) - Swanage, Dorset - 24 May 2023
Transitioning from a different area of work and living area I have felt nothing but support from the management and staff. I have been impressed with the amount of knowledge and support from higher management and within the team. Work life balance... What can I say?! It is great. Previous places of work; especially in the peak periods, I have been asked to work a crazy amount of hours. Here, you must have your rest days and breaks. You can even ask for them together or split! Managent are quick to respond to anything needed within the workplace or personally. Mental health support at this company is second to none! It truly is a proactive and progressive company to work for with customers and staff at the forefront of their ethics.
Pros
Work life balance
Cons

Great company
Manager (Current Employee) - Bakewell, Derbyshire - 24 May 2023
Coming from managing in hospitality this job is a dream! Sensible hours (40 max a week) no longer than 8 hour shifts, and area managers who actually care more about their teams than any company I’ve ever worked for. Shifts no longer than 8 hours, and they want you to be yourself, so don’t go changing for anyone.
Pros
Staff discount, great hours
Cons
No tips

Each day is different and surrounded by dynamic can-do people who inspire me everyday! I work part-time to fit around study based in office or can work from home as needed. Great place to work
Team Leader (Current Employee) - East Looe, Cornwall - 27 January 2023
Only downside to working here is the lack of contracts. The people are fantastic and supportive, they tend to promote from within and there are lots of opportunities to further yourself on the 'SHINE' program
Pros
50% discount
Cons
Zero hour contracts

Never again
Customer Assistant (Former Employee) - Dorchester - 19 January 2023
When I first started I love the fact it was busy so the day went fast but by the end of a shift you were done and then had to clean down the shop with only a 20 min break all day which wasn’t enough time to even eat properly you wouldn’t leave the building til gone 7 at night
Cons
Long hours a lot was expected of staff

Cornish Bakery. Redefining what a bakery should be
Team Leader (Current Employee) - Rye, East Sussex - 18 January 2023
Comprehensive training is given at the start of your time with this company, whether you are a head barista or team member. This is because they expect the very best from their teams. They are a very reasonable company to work for in the hospitality business. I started in a new branch so we all had to learn and break in the new technology but was a fun time. All the team are great to work with too. Hours can vary quite a bit, mostly over what you expect, but pay is reasonable and holiday is standard for the industry. The managers listen to what you have to say and try to deal with any issues that might arise They have a good internal promotion policy plus the chance to relocate to other areas. All in all I would say the Cornish Bakery is a good company to work for.
Pros
Discounted food, free drinks
Cons
Long hours in summer.

Wouldn’t recommend
Best thing about this place is coffee culture. If you want great barista training and love high-end coffee - become head barista, you will love it. Unfortunately for other roles it’s not the same.
Pros
Staff discount on food, great coffee
Cons
Long hours, no overtime for managers, generally disorganised, high management turnover
