Really enjoyed my time there

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Staff worked well together, had many laughs! pay was okay, fast paced environment. Management were lovely too. The only downside for my department was the unreliability of hours. (due to room bookings each day) so I left for more set in stone hours. I would recommend it for someone who needs an extra bit of income during school hours who lives local to the Hotel.

Pros

School hours

Cons

Unreliability of end time/ rota days due to bookings

Was a really good place to work until the old manager stepped in.

If you like being under paid and not appreciated then this is the place to work. Being paid by cheque that then takes 2-3 days to clear. Un paid training... lack of support... favouritism towards certain staff members. Left alone to work the reception and bar. No formal training. No contracts. Very poorly run. Full of council tenants so leaves housekeepers without hours, but you are suposed to be available when it suits.

Pros

It's a job

Cons

Everything

Awful

Awful place to work. If you want 90 hours and minimum pay then this is your place to go. No home life and no money to show for it either ! Don't bother

Flexible hours and good owners

It’s a lovely local pub with some absolutely fantastic regulars. The landlord and landlady are great people once you get to know them. The flexibility with the hours is fantastic for if you’re taking this as a second job or as a part time job alongside university as I did.

Fun to work at

Hotel itself is fine, staff were great and loved the team I worked with just got underpaid every month and nothing gets resolved, most people aren’t on the books either so your classed as self employed and get paid by cheque which is dated now.

Fast paced workplace

I loved my time here. All of the staff are lovely and offer help when needed, everybody makes you feel comfortable. Got to be able to work fast. Jobs set out for everyone at the start of a shift so everybody is aware of what they are going to be doing on that certain shift.

Pros

Good work life balance Good team to be around

Terrible place to work

Overworked and very underpaid. Promises of pay rises that never materialise. Expected to work until you physically can’t do anymore . No gratitude, management aren’t great. Very long days

Covid-19

Since the start of lockdown Team Crown and the head people at Hall and Woodhouse brewery have done everything possible to support and assist me and all members of the H & W teams through this difficult time.

Pros

%20 off Lunches

Cons

Fun place to work

No two days are ever the same, you may have a quiet breakfast shift to an early morning coffee rush. For anyone the hardest part of the job is the length of time you maybe on your feet if you are not used to it. Have found that management is very approachable and will always try to find a solution to any problem you may have.

Pros

Having a drink at the end of shift at weekend with the team

Cons

the long hours at times

Worst experience ever

If you want to to be over worked with no pay be my guest. The manager of the crown is two faced, doesnt respect her workers and is running the place illegally by not handing out pay slips or giving out contracts to sign. She makes you do work you never signed up for, she has no common sense and she is very accusing.

Pros

The locals and the co workers

Cons

Poorly run buisness

Not a great place to work

Unless you're wanting a small part time job its not that great, managers aren't up to much either as they don't care much about the staff or the customers

Fast paced, but enjoyable and an outstanding community

The work can be hard, and sweaty and unpleasant at times, as any job can be; but the sense of fulfilment I would get on a regular basis, forming friendships between regulars, expanding the group of people I call friends through my work. That says enough about the place in its self. The fascinating history about the hotel and how deep the passion runs between the senior staff members gives off such a positive atmosphere. Even when the work is hard, and things get tough, we always had smiles on our faces in the end. An experience that has taught me so much, that I will never forget

Fun workplace

Busy, nice regular customers, fun place to work. Believe they now hold more events which were always great. Good location as next to Lime Street so easy to get to work via public transport

Great place... Sadly closed down now. The Hotel has been renovated into Flats which is a great shame as it was a great place to work and also the best bar in the town.

A bit unorganised but okay

Noone ever really new where I was supposed to be so it seemed a bit chaotic at times. But otherwise is okay to work there. Lots of staff so pros and cons with that.

Productive yet fun workplace

During a typical day at work I would have a good conversation with the regular customers as well as the new comers to make them feel welcome. I enjoyed learning all of the bar skills and cellar skills, eg changing optics, barrels/kegs ect.

Fun Workplace

The only reason that made leave it, was because it was very far from the bigger cities. It was a very nice experience, as it was my first serious job in life
