productive but low pay and limited hours

productive and fast paced but low pay and limited hours. Always new stock coming in so keeps it interesting but it is a retail job so can also be really boring.

Productive

- Great environment. Lovely team. Chance to develop your skills. Great relationships with colleagues. Day in the life would involve stocks up , customer service etc

Very hard work for minimal pay.

This company seems to make their money from not hiring enough employees and then work you to death. They give unreachable targets and then tell you off for not achieving them... was never recognised for trying your hardest. There is also a problem with clicky managers / teams. Awful work life balance with short hour days. All this for minimum pay and almost zero benefits. DISGUSTING COMPANY TO WORK FOR... AVOID.

good people to work with

always worked with nice people but the pay isn’t good. the contracts are also only 4/8 hours unless you are management which is not good. they are very strict about certain things too but overall i have enjoyed working here. can be stressful and have to do a bit of everything in the role. pay does not reflect the responsibility and duties we have to do.

Hard work but mostly enjoyable

Be prepared for hard work, deadlines and targets to be met.The work itself was enjoyable but too much pressure meeting targets set.Sometimes not enough time is.spent on customers as you have so much to do.

Awful place to work. I only did one day and then handed in my notice. The best word to describe the works culture, 'Sloppy'

From the moment I walked through the door it was awful. Disorganised, dirty, no supervision or training, only one other member of staff on duty, and so left to cope on my own for the majority of the day. The remote temporary manager phoned late afternoon to tell me in two weeks I would have to work until midnight for stock taking, before even asking how my first day had gone. I handed my notice in the next day, I have never worked anywhere for such a short time.

Fun but management not the best

Fun work place and could be amazing with the correct set up but the management are not the best to say the least!. Alot of things are overlooked and complaints being dismissed.

Offered me the job, but they knew I deserved more.

I was a member of Iver team for about a day, brilliant team and fantastic Manageress. I felt at home and part of the community, after discussions it was mutually agreed that my qualifications, talents and need for steady hours was too much for an entry level position at the Work company. Cost of living isn’t my best friend.

Pros

Friendly team and brilliant atmosphere

Cons

Not enough money or hours

Busy, Some days are really enjoyable.

Always things to do. The amount of deliveries that you get are somewhat out of control. An example would be - You'll have a sales target of £9,500 for the week, but could be sent up to £19,000 worth of stock in a single delivery week. The amount of stock sent to the store isn't always on par to what you're actually selling. Is made harder during peak times - Summer, Christmas, Seasonal events.

Pros

Able to set own rota if management.

Cons

NMW to sales assistants/keyholders. High turnover in staff.

Nice colleagues, Easy Job, Disorganised Management

For the most part I really enjoyed working here. I got on with all of my in-store colleagues however, there was a lot of disorganisation coming from higher up in the company meaning people were left working far above their pay grade due to short staff, not enough attention from higher management and it did often feel as though you weren’t cared about as an individual. Most of the individuals were lovely but just didn’t give enough support to the people actually working in the stores when it was needed, Eg. If staff were not available, you were expected to lone run the shop on your own without a break all day rather than just closing the shop. If you have a good team you will get on fine but make sure you set firm boundaries or you may be stretched too thin.

Can be fun but also stressful

Really depends on the people around you. Store budgets are low, hours are minimum and lone trading is very much a thing. Some days you could be running round dealing with pallets with one other member of staff while other days you're demoing products such as painting.

Fun work place

A fun store but head office expect a lot from you . Minimum national wage for the workload expected is not great . I work with a great team but upper management need to learn to listen

Joke

The company use to have a caring and family ethos but not any more, that ethos starts and stops at store level anyone from area manager higher dilont care and do a lot of finger pointing and telling the old saying do as "I say not as I do" comes to kind, it's a shame as it use to be a nice company to work for.

Pros

Your team at store level

Cons

Low pay, senior management

Fun workplace, as like any other retail

I loved working at the works, the only downside was the pay. NMW just wasn't enough for me, and you do a lot more work just to be paid nmw but apart from that it was decent. It's true when they say the people make the place. I worked with the nicest team and it has been my favourite place to work.

Great place to work

Started out well and was a brilliant student job, however as time went on I felt the company cared very little for its employees and was extremely money driven. Mixed opinion on management - one was great, the other spoke unprofessionally about colleagues to other staff members. The pay wasn’t great either (minimum wage) but staff discount was good at 25%. Overall, if you like craft and are looking fora small amount of hours each week, it’s idealbut would not recommend as a long termjob because it’s so repetitive.

Pros

Staff discount, double discount weeks

Cons

Poor management, rubbish pay and treated workers poorly

Slow paced, bad management

Management do not care about sales assistants and will completely leave them to do everything by themselves. They offer no help on the shop floor with customers

good team, bad job

started working around christmas and the fast paced environment was very enjoyable, however i was given absolutely no training and just expected to learn everything by myself- was then told off by cover managers for doing things/not doing things i wasn’t aware of.after christmas it was incredibly dull, very few customers and nothing to do, managers are either absolutely careless or super strict, seems there’s no good inbetween (from the many managers i had to meet after mine left with no warning) no respect for your personal time, they seem to hate you having any other responsibilities (school, other work ect)and also you’re expected to do everything at the same time, if you’re not serving a customer for more than thirty seconds you’re expected to get stock out around the shop and then run back and forth serving customers and putting out stock???

Pros

coworkers, sometimes relaxed environment

Cons

pay, expectations and no personal time
