Great company to work for look after their staff all in all love working for the company. Only thing I would say is pay could be better but it's not bad with bonuses

Avoid like ebola

Terrible company. Treat you like a number. Don't recognise you for your hard work. Unless you count 50p bonus per week. Area staff just interested in knocking off early to get home. Look forward to training yourself with a manual to do skilled work on expensive items. If like me you are already skilled look forward to trying to fight for more than minimum wage as they pile responsibilities on you. Oh yeah and if you aren't in the clique expect your colleagues to actively work against you at every opportunity. Finally if you have any problems with head office look forward to them speaking to you like you are stupid and dishonest. I chose Universal credit over working here. There was one positive thing. Giving them the finger and regaining some dignity.

Pros

Absolutely none at all.

Cons

Too many to list

Upsetting company to work for

Not too bad of a company to work for if you're already fully trained but other than that if you're planning on starting work with them you better be prepared for a long wait until anyone can come train you. From my years of working there, trainees are not even trained to a minimum standard and trainers don't have time to come train them. They get left for months to just keep shops open and trainees get fed up of waiting for their training and then leave and the cycle starts over again. Its a shame to be honest as it was once a nice company to work for but has gone very down hill but if you can stick around and wait for them to make their rounds it can be a decent job in the long run

Pros

Bonus scheme, secure job

Cons

Salary, stressful, lack of training

Don’t bother.

Don’t believe a word that they tell you about the job they will change your job title, description and place of work. They say they care about their staff but in reality they care about themselves. Area management are terrible.

Disappointing.

Had two phone calls from Timpson, one asking for me to tell them a little a bit about myself the other asking me to come down a week Monday to team up with their Driver to show me the ropes. I started at 5am finished at 4pm only to find out that it was a trial. Nobody at any stage told me this was a trial, the day finished with the Driver taking me to a Timpson shop to get £50 and told me F/Off and someone will phone you Wednesday or Thursday. I told them Don't bother after hearing the stories from the drivers about working 11hrs but only getting paid for 8hrs. This Company exploits their Drivers, keep well clear.

Pros

Easy Job no stress

Cons

Unpaid working hours. Poor communication

Poor pay and an odd workplace culture

Has potential to be a good workplace but its let down by what the company classes as its values. Too relaxed - encourages you to treat your shop as YOUR OWN shop that you own and for people who take pride and see excellent results... the pay and bonus does not reflect this.

Pros

Relaxed

Cons

Too relaxed

Good Management & colleagues. Poor pay let's it down

Good Management, left to run shop with minimal interference. Good discounts. Working lunches & poor pay.

Pros

Good Management & discounts

Cons

Poor pay

Culture of favouritism

If you grovel to management you'll go far here. Some I've seen clearly can't do the job. One example is a memorial plaque inlaid with boot polish in an assessment in haverfordwest AND PASSED, that person is now heading for area development manager position. I've seen many good people drummed out of timpsons because they don't fit the grovelling profile this includes the dry cleaning side of things Favouritism on an industrial scale in this area can't speak for the other areas first hand but have heard its the same elsewhere

Pros

Everything if your a favourite

Cons

Massive favouritism and sell sell sell attitude from higher up

Working long hours

Do a 9 hour shift alone can sometimes affect your mental health, work colleagues and management are by far the best parts about the job very supportive and the company can’t do enough to help you

Productive and fun

I enjoyed my time at timpsons, they taught me a lot and gave me confidence.I worked with some lovely people and always felt I was treated fairly. My time at Timpsons was only cut short due to COVID 19

Unfair wages for a lot of work.

If you like working for minimum wage and having to pass around 14 skills including shoes watches keys and having no help it's the job for you. It's an awful place to work and as soon as I get a new job I'm gone.

Pros

Bonus

Cons

Work every weekend

Supportive area team and work balance

Been working as branch manager since September 2020. It is overwhelming at first getting know everything and knowing in a month or two you will be running the store by yourself BUT my ADM manager that was teaching me was amazing and area 66 is a massive support when you are stressed or struggling with certain things. I have some health problems and I have had nothing BUT support off both my area and my managers. The guys at other shops are always there to help you and once you get into managing your time then it’s really nice being in control of your shop. It is hard but it’s really rewarding when dealing with customers and when you get positive reviews. I would 100% recommend a friend or family to work at timpsons because of how much I enjoy my job even though some days it is hard!

Pros

Supportive environment

Cons

Working alone can be hard

Pros

Cons

My manager and area manager were great

I enjoyed the job but was dealt with Badly when it came to the COVID 19 situation and how to get rid of there staff at minimal cost to the company. The hours were long.

Pros

It’s a job

Cons

Hours

Too much stress, NO support

You are forced to run busy shops alone after only 3-4 weeks training and then if you don’t handle it well you get sacked. There is no work life balance as you are asked to work out of your hours with no pay and always asked to do Saturday overtime for free also. Was forced into a management role with no training at all and then told by management I would never succeed.

Pros

Company benefits

Cons

Managers

Promised the world and delivered nothing at all

Was here for just under 4 years, first year was absolutely fine, after that it was all down hill, shocking management, equipment nearly double my age, wont spend anything. What you get paid is a disgrace for the work your expected to carry out. Only positive was most of the shop workers are lovely, area team are useless and just sit on there phones or be watching Netflix, area manager on my patch was not fit for purpose, (one of the reasons I left). You wont be a service engineer, it will just be breakdown after breakdown and you'll just be patching and bodging stuff as they won't pay for any thing. Best thing I did was leave this place

Pros

Not a lot

Cons

Shocking pay, long days, driving up to 800 miles a week, shocking management

Stressful with poor management

The area team are let down severely by one of their ADM's. It's no good asking for help as they make you feel like you're useless for asking. It's all profit driven and people ignored. They reckon they've got top down management when it's more like a dictatorship. It's my way or the highway and if your face doesn't fit, you're not gonna do well.

Pros

Free uniform

Cons

Long hours, lots of travel, no real job progression, frowned upon if you take a lunch break, lone working

Over worked, under payed, lonely

Keep it short and to the point, company now trying to make money of the workers they are under paying, by offering them in house loans with an interest rate of 17% APR.You are expected to work with spinning blades, grinding bands, knives and other heavy machinery on your own, at all times, with no back up if something goes wrong. They expect you to work through your lunches but don't want you eating in the shop.Stock takes come round you're expected to do it alone while the shop is open, count every key and every individual repair and engraving material. All your stock all while servingUn reasonable expectations for national living wage amd when you ask for a pay rise they say they can't afford it even though you get a letter through your door every year telling you how many millions of profit they we make for them. They promise bonus instead but you don't get any because they have so many shops open in the same area you never make enough to get bonus. It goes on

Pros

You learn to do useful things for yourself and wprk with the machines to do it

Cons

No weekends, minimum wage for everything you need to know, cleaning, maintaining the shop amd managing, company tells you how many millions profit they make each year
Was this review helpful?

Nothing like they claim

You will expected to run a shop on your own after just a few weeks , you will have no real value to the company you are just a way of getting money in the till .

Pros

non

Cons

management have no care of work life balance
Was this review helpful?

Fast paced and plenty of problem solving

I enjoyed my time at the company. They work with an upside down management idea where you have free rein to impress your customers and not have to seek constant approval from head office to do so. Can be fast paced and requires regular problem solving which will keep you on your toes.

Pros

Bonuses to top up wages

Cons

Can’t take weekends off, holidays are hard to organise
