Great culture. If you want progression with no qualifications this is the perfect place. If your willing to work hard and build relationships, you will be able to earn good money and progress through the business.

Fun but can be stressful

Security wise should be job for life but your never earn huge amounts for the work you do. Pay structure is very outdated and needs to be sorted ASAP especially overtime with none paid at time n half just a set pay which would be £5-10 more than you'd earn on normal contracted hours so no real incentive to do it but your get made feel bad if you don't. If your ill you'd be encouraged still go work instead. The area teams try do best they can but those above are very out of touch and ask for this n that worth no extra pay. Upside down management from what I've learned is basically not true if it was why isn't the pay better for the amount of responsibility that is put on people's shoulders.

Not a good place to work

Not a great company at all. My experience echos those who have been honest about working here. Always pressured into doing overtime and are expected not to have any sort of a life.Very outdated systems in place. No structure and you’re expected to just shut up and put up. No real help for mental health, just a phone number given to you and you’re expected to get on with it. Taking a lunch break is frowned upon and you’re expected to ‘have a working lunch as not to loose out on potential bonus’.The bonus system is rigged so you’ll only get something if you’re in a busy shop which btw are non existent, as the shops are so near each other all the shops end up making mediocre money so the only person who really benefits is the person at the top. Being sick is a major crime as you’ll be made to come in as there’s no one to cover your branch ever. No chances of progressing or doing anything other then just being a shop keeper, which if that’s what you want then that’s ok. They need to invest in their workforce by offering apprenticeship and qualifications and pay a fair wage. The company clearly hasn’t kept up with the times and I can’t personally see this company lasting another 20 years unless it’s changes it’s structure.

Horrible place to work.

The mental health ambassador encourages you to work without taking break & they make you feel bad for not doing overtime. Poor company to work for some serious problems with the mobile management, the was various members of staff thinking they are really better than a new starter just because they can repair a shoe… literally seen a mobile manager make more mistakes than myself and it’s a joke.

Bad

Don't work for them if you want a life or have a family. Don't expect to climb the ladder if u care about your safety or life out side of the job days off change at a drop of a hat. They don't care about mental heath at all as your on your own every day. Don't expect praise for good work but do a little thing wrong and expect to be hung out. Pay is low for all they expect from you national minimum to do every aspect of running a shop you can get more just to stack shelves.

Could be much better

Working in a team during the training period was enjoyable, learned the ins and outs of the job and was supported well, but too soon you are moved to a 1 man branch and left there on your own. Don't get a lunch break as you'd have to lock the shop up as you are the only person there. Bonus structure unachievable. Uniform outdated and tacky. Be prepared to work at other branches to cover, at short notice and don't look forward to your day off you may not get it.

Not what it used to be...

If you want something for when your younger and your not to fussed about pay then this is the job for you. You will then be your own boss of your own ship but it can be very stressful and tiring. I've been with them for over 10years and it's not the same company it used to be. There's not such thing as upside down management anymore. The reginal manager go over your head regardless. Every customer now is so demanding, and if you feel like being spoken down to from customers this is for you.

The most amazing collegues

working here had its ups and downs as you can imagine with all jobs, but the people who work for timpson are amazing, they hire based on personality so everyone is spot on tbfs

Poor pay and stressful

I have worked for them for 10 years now and they pay structure is absolutely terrible. Basic salary is just above minimum wage but don’t worry because there are “bonus” incentives. The job is demanding and you have to learn a lot in a short space of time to be able to keep up with the pace of the work load. Not a lot of help from the area team if you have got all your “skills”. You normally just get left to it. Very frustrating at times.

Bad people.

Company and managers does not respect employees. I don't recommend anyone to work for this company. Especially if you're new and want to learn. Managers and also some employees are truly rude behind the scenes.

a fascinating and challenging environment

Timpsons is a good hearted company which you can be proud to work for, if you can take the pay and the weekend working. You'll get to learn how hollow the watch industry for one thing, and will never look at a pair of shoes the same way again...

Avoid at all costs

Worked here for a few years and can't find one positive thing to say. You work nearly every Saturday and Sunday just to sit on your own in a small shop and try and find things to do. You may get a customer every hour then because timpson are supposdley really expensive they just shout at you like your making the prices. You look online and they seem to have great PR but couldn't be more opposite

Don't believe the hype.

Don't believe the hype regarding this being one of the best employers around. Speak to long serving employees and they will tell you they have no clue about these so called "perks". It's all a front. I couldn't work more than a few months here. The gossip between stores about private matters, the fact the manager of one unit was swearing all the time and making rude comments about female customers when they leave is just gutter level workplace manners.

The chance to make someone day

Having the ability to make someone feel very happy weather it's bringing back to life there favourite shoes or watch or getting them out them out of a sticky situation were they've lost or broken key we always go home with a sense of satisfaction

Supportive and an excellent company to work for.

A fantastic company to work for, supportive, and has helped me achieve many of my life goals, i really enjoy going to work and its never a chore - good salary, excellent career prospects and a very generous bonus scheme, i would highly recommend you give this a try!

Every day has something different

Great learning new skills, and it is skills! These guys are trained to do every service they provide in branch. Training is so easy to understand and they supply training manuals which are easy to follow as mostly in picture form as all the work they do is hands on. Some things are trickier than others and more detailed. The training plan is explained and rolled out as they told me. One to one and good to get the experience practicing on cutting keys, fixing watches, and engraving and shoe repairs.

Timpson Northern Ireland

Good company to work for, upside down management which gives you the freedom to run your shop as you like and make every customer feel welcome to your branch. Decent pay and working hours. Bonus to be earned weekly and decent holidays. Chances for progression to branch manager and also mobile manger.

Its like being your own boss

I find it very interesting and no two days are the same. Trusted to get on with it and have no-one looking over my shoulder. Get good support from my Area team who roll their sleeves up and get stuck in when needed. Job made easier by getting new to the market and up to date equipment. Have use of a free holiday home this summer which my kids love.

Ignore the negativity. It’s really that good.

I’ve seen a lot of negative reviews on here and it’s quite sad really cause it’s a great place to work but very much you get out what you put in.So to address a lot of the points wages are topped up by bonus but on the flip side of that you are paid a reasonable wage from the start. You do spend a lot of time alone but as most shops can be run by 1 person it’s to be expected.Training is a problem as a lot of the time guys with assessor certificates, Area team and senior colleagues (up to and including Regional Directors) are out sleeves rolled up covering branches (why do you think we’re recruiting?) so no one will ask you to do something they aren’t prepared to do themselves if needs be and are probably just as frustrated as you are.The “cliquey” culture is mostly a thing of the past but sadly there are still a few but you’ll get that anywhere you go. You are given a lot of responsibility from the word go and more get added as you go but it’s all part of moving forward and again you’d expect it in any workplace.In short it’s a great place to work if you work hard, take on additional responsibilities to help the team and enjoy doing something different everyday.

Excellent for people who work well on their own

Have worked for Timpson for near ten years now and can say its changed me for the better, when i first started i had no prospects, no time management and little self confidence, but after a year working under another shop manager i gained the confidence, skills and experience to work up into higher demand roles and shops across Timpson, the pay is fair to how hard you want to work to earn it with a bonus system in place as well as numerous benefits and financial aid plans available through the company, the company culture is one of family and respect for one anothers skills and feats for which we are often commended on. Ive worked for Timpson for ten years but can safely say I’m quite happy to pursue my career for many more years to come, i would say its an excellent place to work for anyone in any walk of life
