Store manager (Former Employee) - London - 3 November 2023
This place is a great job to learn about watches and honestly the staff is a bit off a mix. They do treat you as a family but everyone thinks their important so a lot of politics. Put your head down a great job just don’t expect to be working with colleagues But I’d come back again
Pros
They teach you how to learn a business
Cons
Mostly independent work

Good company to work for
Branch Manager (Former Employee) - Bishop Auckland, Durham - 29 October 2023
I worked at Max Spielman for 2 years. I've had good experience working for them. Training is good depending on who is training you at the branch, you will be trained by more experienced colleague and Area Manager.

Mobile colleage (Former Employee) - Sheffield, South Yorkshire - 25 October 2023
Okay place to work, only thing I’d say is that the trainees they employ should be getting their full training before being responsible for a shop as shop managers are left to deal with issues the following day. When reported to area team no one cares and expect you to deal with it yourself

Poor & unfair pay
Branch Manager (Current Employee) - Wellingborough, Northamptonshire - 17 October 2023
Timpson is an easy going company & why wouldn't they be, they're paying you peanuts. Overall it is a good job but don't be fooled, their PR team is world class ... They want you to work your lunches for free in the 'guise' of earning more bonus but if you do the maths, you'll likely gain an extra 70p per lunch, amazing right? The salary is just above minimum wage & the bonus scheme will cover your fuel each week. Cover colleagues are rushed through training & often you'll have added work dealing with the aftermath from them, which can cause you to dread coming back in from days off. Complaints are sometimes dealt with but often ignored. Experience counts for nothing as a staff member of 10 years can find themselves earning £1 more than a bew starter struggling to do the job.
Pros
Days off
Cons
Pay, rewards, Experience & loyalty counts for nothing

Factory Worker (Former Employee) - Scarborough, North Yorkshire - 14 October 2023

Amazing but lacks control
Waitress (Former Employee) - Gwynedd - 1 October 2023
As a food server is is very busy, and you barely have a second to stop most times. But I like it that way. As a starter is was overwhelming, but it became easy to deal with and was comfortable once I'd worked there over a year. I developed so many skills that I cna carry with me to my next job, I am so grateful for Timpsons and it's Flock inns. This place was genuinely my favourite place to work and I want to be able to find a place just like it. But, it still has its flaws, and my statements below do not change how much I adored the place, I'm just happy to speak about their flaws now that I don't work with them. The main flaw is management. I loved my manager and assistant manager to the end of the earth. They supported me and brought me up to be a better worker. But they have terrible choice in supervisors. There has been multiple occasions of supervisors setting themselves in a "float" position to help with serving, bar and more, but will genuinely just sit at the front desk when that isn't their area, abandon their current post to sit down and scroll through their phone and eat, or complain that they need to go home early because they're tired, after spending their whole shift sitting down and telling people who have so much on their hands to do another job, when they are free. And this is after going home early the day before. This is a direct memory from a specific supervisor I worked under. This same supervisor also told me condescendingly I'm "really in the wrong job" because I was getting too hot on a 27°C 11 hour shift. She outwardly complained about not being -
Pros
Free food on break, frequent pay rise, very supportive.
Cons
Management (supervisors)

Great rewards but not enough benefits for mobile managers
Mobile Manager (Current Employee) - All over - 6 September 2023
I love the company ethos and the bonus/rewards system but mobile managers are taken advantage of for a few extra quid they are expected to do pretty much the same as ADM's but not the pay/company car/fuel paid for on company card. I do love the flexibikity and my area team are great and helpful and always work around me which is great when sorting out childcare

Amazing place to work
Store Manager (Former Employee) - London - 22 August 2023
I worked for timpson for 2 years and it was an amazing g company to work for the management were very friendly and helpful if you ever had a problem they went above and beyond to help resolve the issue they don't just help with work problems but if you have issues in your personal life they will do anything they can to help they treat all there employees like family and thats rare with big company's once your in you have a job for life the interview was a phone call to start with by the area manager then a trial day with one of the adms where they will assess your personality to see if you will be a good fit for the company they don't judge on your skill level as they will teach you everything you need to know my best advice would be to ask as many questions as possible and be yourself wear shoes trousers and a shirt for the trial day the wage aint the best but there is always over time if you want it and you do earn bonus every week if you hit target most shops are very easy to hit target in you get a list as long as your arm of benifits and they are a very family oriented company if you have a child you get the kids first day of school off to be with them as well as your birthday off every year they have holiday homes you can apply for as well as many more
Pros
Loads of benifits, bonus, treated like family, great management
Cons
Not the greatest base wage for what your doing

Very supportive and dedicated teams
Branch Manager (Current Employee) - Kendal, Cumbria - 17 August 2023
In all honesty it isn't a difficult job and you are encouraged to treat your work environment as if it were your own establishment. The senior staff are massively supportive and they will break Thier own backs to make sure you have whatever you need. There's many benefits in the company that most employers wouldn't provide.

Overall great company to work for
Store Colleague (Current Employee) - Brighton - 29 July 2023
The type of job that the harder you work the more youre rewarded which is how it should work. They take good care of their employees and have excellent benefits amd bonuses. Its keep you on your toes and can sometimes be stressful but i think its worth it because their aren't many better places to work. You feel valued and have a degree of control that allows you to express your ideas on how your shop should be run and allows you to work like a human and make your own decisions as opposed to a robot. Its not repetitive and you get something new everyday. Talking to the customers us great you neet people from all walks of life with amazing stories.
Pros
The bonus system and the culture of the company
Cons
Stressful

Commitments will be an issue if you have children
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - Hackney - 7 July 2023
When working for this company i was dismissed due to having an emergency with my daughter, the fact that my area manager had gave me an ultimatum of look after my child or go into work made me see that the company only cares about the work and no work/life balance especially if there is an emergency.

Loosing it's 'family run' status
Branch Manager (Current Employee) - Merseyside - 3 July 2023
Most colleagues not paid for the hours they do. Most experienced colleagues are leaned on to support under qualified branches whilst they themselves are on 90p an hour over minimum wage. Colleagues are pressed to take in high value items and when damaged by a service center they are left to deal with the consequences. The customer compensation directly effects the area teams bonus so they keep a tight leash on pay outs, even though the colleagues are allowed to do it themselves they would be terrorised and pushed out of their branch or refused days off for doing it. After 13 years I would absolutely not recommend applying for a job here you WILL regret it!

You get what you put in.
Mobile Manager (Current Employee) - Berkshire - 19 June 2023
Simple as the title really. Great place to work if a little lonely at times. The area team will bend over backwards for you if you’re willing to put in the effort. Great people up to area team level for the most part but from regional up it’s a bit incestuous and very much runs on the old boys club and nepotism. Can be cliquey between Mobile teams and Branch teams but the jobs are two very different beasts.

So much more than a bunch of Cobblers
HR Advisor (Current Employee) - Manchester, Greater Manchester - 14 June 2023
Timpson is a fantastic place to work, at Timpson House it is a bright, fun and modern office, we have excellent facilities (gym, cafe, pool, free tea and coffee) and free parking. We are very well looked after, everyone is really friendly and kind and you really do feel like part of the family.
