Transport for Wales Employee Review

Has its ups and downs

Like most jobs working with the public it has its ups and downs.Working on the stations is a bit of a daunting task.Especially if you’re working alone on a late turn.Management can be haphazard at best. Not much of a help at times ,but the assistants they have are probably better for help and Information.Busy times when it’s summer holidays especially along the coast..expect high footfall on race days and events it can be very intimidating.Wage wise it’s good..free uniform ..overtime a plenty depending on your role.Booking office staff do not tend to get much as roles are covered by other staff (GPRS) Depending where you work most staff are helpful..some in other places are not.Uniform and footwear provided..free travel on TFW trains and 75% discount on other TOCsI’d say a good job depending on your base station.

Pros

Uniform free travel cycle to work scheme wages overtime

Cons

Mangement absent some negative staff members

Just a number

Many loyal years with the company only to be overlooked and turned down for progressive job posts. In the end I had to leave. The majority of station management are inexperienced with poor people skills.Unless you’re in a relationship with someone from HR or in general your face fits then it’s tough to progress anywhere! Salary is okay unless you’re working in the valleys which can only be described as working in Beirut! Secure job - but promotion prospects are poor as they prefer new people they can mold to their way of working. I left the job and now work Monday to Friday earning 35k-40k per annum & it was the best move I ever made.

Pros

Free Travel

Cons

Clueless station managers who are run by HR.lack of promotion for long term staff.

TFW is a great place to work.

What is the best part of working at the company?I self manage. As long as I’m doing my job correctly I am left to it. The company are investigating a lot of money and are committed to raising standards. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? The public. When there is disruption, they become angry and trying to be helpful becomes very difficult What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Inclusive with good communication. Team work and friendly work mates. What is a typical day like for you at the company?Busy and time goes fast. Varied destinations

Night shift cleaner

Industrial cleaning of train carriages.. Poor management don't care about staff, any requests for new equipment fall on deaf ears...very physical job climbing in and out of train carriages all night whilst carrying all your equipment. Basic pay considering most transport for Wales trains are absolutely filthy.....you will be required to clean up human waste
